Take Me Back Tuesday - November 20, 2007

It's kind of crazy to think back to that time the boys were in the NICU.

Some things are razor sharp in my mind. I can tell you the pitch of the monitors, the smell of the hand soap we used, and the way my hands felt as they cracked and bled from the constant hand washing.

Other things, things you'd think I'd remember, are very fuzzy. I struggle to remember the first time I saw the boys after they were born. I can't quite picture in my mind around just how tiny they were back then.

I wish I could remember it all, though. They fought hard, and those battles should be remembered...sigh. (Thankfully, I have the blog posts from that time. Without them, we'd never be able to recall it all!) Such is the way the mind works when you deal with the NICU and traumatic experiences, I suppose.
I thought I'd continue with honoring Prematurity Awareness Month and re post the first "update" I posted on the boys' blog. It was November 20, 2007. The boys were just shy of a month old...

Moving On Up...

Yesterday was a big day! Jason came off of his vent and moved on to the vapor mist cannula (a device used in the hospital to deliver supplemental oxygen to a patient in need of extra oxygen. This device consists of a plastic tube which fits behind the ears, and a set of two prongs which are placed in the nose. Oxygen flows from these prongs). We are so excited for him. Hopefully he'll stay on his cannula this time and not regress back to his vent. Plus, he was moved into an isolette which will give him the chance to practice regulating his own body temperature. Woohoo. Keep it up, little man!

It was also a great day because I got to hold Jason for the second time while Isaac held Shawn! I must say that it was heavenly. I fought back the urge to take them and run home... :-)
