Friday Five

Well, this was another long week of the sick. Jack was able to get to school on Thursday. Shawn still needed a few more days to rest, so he won't go back until next week.

The good news, though, is that everyone is finally on the mend and getting better each day. Yay!

Speaking of Jack, he managed to go back to school the day his class went on a field trip to the Chumash Museum. He had a great time, too, although the day wore him out.

He does have A LOT of make-up work to do from his time out, though. Sigh. Looks like our weekend will be filled doing that.

The kids at school made get well cards for Shawn. That's just about the sweetest thing ever. Melts my heart.

Jason came home this week and casually mentioned that he scored the highest math AND reading score on the STAR tests out of the entire 6th grade. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself! Way to go!

Jason has a field trip with his AVID class this weekend. He gets to go watch a basketball game at an area university. So fun!

Whatever Gets You Moving, Kid

Shawn has been really sick over the last two weeks, which has left him pretty weak. He was spending a lot of time in bed. Couple that with the fact that he apparently doesn't like to cough, even when he needs to, and we've been a bit concerned about this crud he has morphing into pneumonia. In an effort to get him up and moving, we've tried everything we could think of doing.

Neither of us expected this exchange to be the one thing that motivated him...

Me: Shawn. Get in here! Lawrence is on TV!

Shawn: (lots of movement happening in his room)

Isaac: No...that's not going to bring him in here, is it?

Shawn (in the hallway): What a minute!

Me: Here he is, Shawn. Better hurry!

Shawn: There he is! It's Lawrence O'Donnell! Mom, I sure do like his tie.

Isaac: (shaking his head) I don't believe it.

So there you have it, folks. Want to get your sick kid up out of bed? Put on the news and he'll come running. LOL

Well...

Only one made it to school this morning. The other two made it to the pediatrician's office. One to two more days off of school (at least) and some antibiotics to boot. When we do sick, we go all out.

Tonight is Shawn's 12th Homecoming Day. There was no way we could celebrate, so we are postponing his celebration until we're all feeling better.

Friday Five

Everyone woke up with fevers, so no school again today. The crud has attack me, too. Ugh. Shawn was super sad that this crud has kept us from our weekly adventure, too. :(

Tomorrow is Shawn's Homecoming Day! Can't wait to celebrate Shawn's 12th anniversary of coming home from the hospital!

Jason has a school assignment to make a goal for 2020. He decided his goal is to read for 45 minutes a day. How cool is that?!

Jack got to participate in his class Spelling Bee on Thursday. He thought it was pretty cool. :)

Extra Snuggles

Everyone was well enough to make it back to school today. It was iffy, as no one was really feeling back to 100%, but we decided to take the chance and send them.

The celebration was short lived, however.

There was a lock down at one of the boys' schools today. We live in a world in which lock downs are necessary, yet, we all tell ourselves that we won't actually be needed at our own kids' school.

Until they are needed.

We are beyond thankful that our kiddo is safe and that no one was seriously harmed. Our guy is relatively clueless about what happened other than a policeman came to his classroom with his gun out and told him he was "a good kid" and that daddy came to pick him up early.

I'm relieved he doesn't have a clue. I don't want him to have one about something like this. I don't want any of them to have a clue. I don't want to have a clue either.

All of our guys got extra snuggles tonight. None of them were feeling their best (sending them to school was likely a bit premature), so they wanted the snuggles as much as we wanted to give them. I know, though, that tonight's snuggles meant a whole lot more to me than they might have yesterday.

Sick Again

Shawn woke up ill yesterday morning with a head cold. He's sneezing, coughing, and running, so much so, that he spent the last two days in bed. Tonight, Jack has spent quite a bit of time telling me that he's "feeling better" and is getting lots of snuggles. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that this is not a good sign. Good thing tomorrow is a holiday!

Three day weekend, baby! Woohoo!

The boys did fairly well transitioning back to school after their long break. They were excited (mostly) to go back, which is so nice to see. :)

Shawn has been asking all week to go bike riding again this weekend. He loves it! We're going to have to find some time to make that happen.

12 years ago yesterday was the big boys' due date. The date sort of jumped out at me when I was looking at the calendar. Still blows my mind that the dynamic duo jumped ship twelve weeks early!  October 27 is so long ago!

Speaking of, Mr. Shawn's Homecoming Day is next Saturday. Yay!

What They're Reading

Shawn: Shawn's reading a story about Martin Luther King Jr. It's called I Have a Dream. He seems to like the story. He's about half way through.

Jason: Jason is on his last book from the Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay. He really seems to like the story, too. :)

Jack: Jack is reading some non-fiction books this week. He has two books, one about the weather and one about sharks. Jack's been a reading machine lately. He has 45 AR points! So proud!

One of the coolest surprises of our trip was that Shawn decided he wanted to go on a roller coaster ride and a big one at that! So, dad and Shawn did just that!
