We decided to postpone April Fool's Day until next week so everyone can feel better. I think, after seeing theses guys this afternoon, it is definitely warranted.

Eight!
Happy Birthday, Jack!
Poor Jack has had a rough birthday today. He is definitely not feeling well, although a steady supply of Advil keeps a bit of pep in his step.

The Last of 7
He let me take this picture of him before he headed off to bed. It's our last picture of 7 year old Jack. Tonight, when we tucked our boy in bed, we kissed the year of 7 goodbye.
It’s been such a good year for our boy. He's become such a character, full of adventure and humor. He gives the best snuggles and kisses in one moment...in the next, he's off to wrestle with his brothers or find some sort of mischief. 💜
Tomorrow, he wakes up an 8 year old. Our baby is growing up so fast.
May the year of 8 be as great as possible while bringing our sweet boy all the joy of seven and much, much more!
Friday Five
Jack's birthday is tomorrow. He is feeling a bit under the weather, so I sure hope he wakes up feeling better.

Speaking of birthdays, we asked Jack what kind of cake he wants for his birthday. He wants carrot cake...
My kid wants carrot cake and not chocolate. Who'd have guessed that?! ;)

Jason went to his first school dance today. He had a BLAST!
Jason: They even played a couple of songs from the 1940's like Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Isaac: Really? What did you think?
Jason: Best experience of my life!
How awesome is that response? I wish him (them all) a life filled with best experiences!

We got news today that the big boys will have a long term sub for the remainder of the school year. They actually had this sub for a bit back inthird fourth (I was corrected) grade, when a teacher they went to for social studies was out long term. Jason seems happy that this will be the person who comes in. Shawn is reserving judgement for the time being. lol
The sub starts Monday.

I am officially out on spring break. Woo to the double hoo! Another week to go for the boys and they'll be out, too!

Field Trip
Today, Shawn and Jason got to go on a field trip to the local harbor. As Jason put it, they learned all about boats. They looked at paintings of boats, history or boats, parts of boats, and even different jobs you can have on boats.

What They're Reading
This crew of ours have been reading like crazy, and we're seeing a lot of growth for each of them. I thought it might be fun to snapshot what each of them are currently reading:
Jack: At school, Jack is working on elements of plot, so he's been reading more fiction books lately. He is reading Fly Guy books and some Marley the Dog books. Tonight, he read Marley - The Dog Who Ate My Homework so he could work on plot.
Jason: Jason is still on book five of The Hero of Olympus series called, The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan. He is now on page 180/502.
Shawn: Shawn is reading another book by Andrew Clements, The Map Trap. He's about 1/2 of the way through the book and seems to be enjoying it well enough. I think he's liked the other two books by this author that we've read better, though. lol

3 days until my spring break begins. I can't wait.
8 days until the boys' spring break begins. They can't wait.
0 energy left to get to our breaks.
2 weeks of no school for us when break does finally gets here. Yay!
50ish school days left of the year. Whoa.
2 letters of acceptance to the junior high of the boys' choice. Double yay! (But Yikes, too!)

4 days until Jack's 8th birthday!

Friday Five...Nope. It's Friday Four
Two weeks until spring break! Two weeks until spring break!! We are so excited!

Believe it or not, we are down to about 50 days left to this school year. It is going fast! (But yay!)

Next Friday is a school dance for Jason and Shawn. Jason is excited to go, but Shawn isn't really feeling it. (I doubt he'll want to go when it comes time for it.) How can it be that these two are now in the school dance age?! They keep insisting on growing up. :)

Silly Kid
For some reason, we've had a number of mosquito hawks outside the front door over the last week. Jack is both fascinated and frightened of these things at the same time, which is evident each time he walks in and out the front door.
First, he tries to loudly shoo them away as we go inside. Then, when they don't have the common decency to actually get out of his way, he ducks low and makes his way inside, keeping one eye on them at all times. Once he is inside, he has to check out the area around the door to make sure one hasn't followed him inside.
Lol. I'm not sure what Jack thinks the mosquito hawks are going to do to him if they do get near him, but I do know he isn't going to stick around to find out!

Shawn: I would be Harry, because um...he's my favorite. He does a lot of things.
Jack: Dumbledore because he was old.
