All Done!

Jack took it upon himself to clean up!

The fact that he the the contents from the emptied drawer before he put in his toys is a mere technicality. ;)

But Why, Grumpy Man?

Reading the book, Green Eggs and Ham, with Shawn is just about the cutest thing ever. It is amazing to see how much he has improved in his reading this year, and this story really does highlight how hard he is working. Plus, even though we've read the story more times than I can count, he is still excited by the next page and has a running dialogue with the characters, Sam and the other character who we have dubbed "the grumpy man", about what they are doing on each page of the story. Shawn is especially interested in "the grumpy man" because he is so angry. Over and over Shawn "asks" him why he just won't try the eggs and ham already. "But why won't you eat the eggs, grumpy man? Why? Why are you so mad at Sam? Why?" lol

Because he loves the book so much, I decided this week we'd use it for his weekly book report. (As an aside, book reports are evil. Just saying.) One of the things they have to do for their reports is to select a sentence completion. Shawn chose "My favorite character is ________ because ____."

Shawn wrote: My favorite character is the grumpy man because he finally tries the green eggs in the end.

How cute is that?!

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

Part of the bed time routine is that the boys listen to children's music as they drift off to sleep. Tonight I got called into their room...

Him (a bit teary): Mom, this is the saddest song.

Me: Why is that?

Him: He eats a peanut, gets sick, has to have an operation, and dies anyway. It's just so sad.

Me: You know it's just a made up song, right?

Him: Yes, but it's just so sad.

Me: Do you want me to fast forward through the song so you don't have to hear it?

Him: I think that would be best.

I did and he was all happy again. He's heard that song hundreds of times by this point, but tonight it was sad. Lol.

Cute Big Boy Saturday

In bed nearly an hour and a half...

Yep. Wide awake for #3.

Friday Five

Grandma (my mom) has been out of town for the last week. We are all missing her. Someone needs to tell her she needs to not go anywhere anymore. Sheesh!

Just kidding.

Mostly.

~~~
Dare I say that for the most part, the boy is potty trained? No, I probably shouldn't. I don't want to jinx things!
~~~

One of Jack's new favorite games is playing circus. He arranges all of his animals to watch, and then calls everyone else he can round up into his room. The expectation is that mom or dad will then hold the flashlight for him so he can "perform" in the spotlight.

It's pretty awesome. :)

~~~
It's pretty awesome that I can bring books home from the junior high library at my work for my first graders to read. It's also pretty mind blowing. Wow. Just wow.
I've since learned that Jason is not a fan of illustrations. He prefers "real" pictures, thank you very much.
I've also learned that Shawn is quite particular about the stories he is willing to read. I still haven't quite figured out exactly what will pass muster with him, yet. The key thing for him is to have a variety of choices. lol
~~~

I am having a hard time believing it is almost time to start working on our summer bucket list. I can't wait to see what the summer holds for us!

All Checked Out

Good news! Thankfully, no one at today's pediatrician appointment thought we beat the boy with his goose egg on his head! Woohoo! lol

Jack had his 4 year appointment today. He's looking good, although we do want to go get his hearing checked to make sure all is well there.

Jack is in the 85%ile for weight and greater than 97%ile for height, too. :)

I'm this big!

Let's get out of this place!

Wait a minute? What's that thing, Doc?

Shots?! What 'cha talkin' 'bout, Doc?
I don't do shots!
(He was lucky because he's up to date and didn't need them!)

Is he not the cutest in his gown?!

Mostly Wordless Wednesday

Jack - 0; bed - 1.

He even cried. You KNOW it hurt when he cries.

Jack managed to smack his head as he was getting into his bed this evening. Sigh.

Got to love it when your kid manages to give himself a black/blue goose egg in the middle of his forehead the night before a yearly checkup at a pediatrician he's never met. There's nothing quite like a big, fat, facial bruise to make a great lasting impression with someone, right? lol

Selective

The littlest child has a very selective palette. He is not an adventurous eater at all, and even when you have him try something that you know he should like, he still acts like it is the worst. thing. ever. So imagine my surprise when the kid asked for and ate this...

It makes no sense!!! Sigh. I don't even try to understand the insanity anymore. Lol

Floatin' in the Tub

He spends most of his bath time "floating." If that pesky washing business wouldn't get in his way, he'd spend his whole bath time this way. :)

P.S. I don't think this kid really ever takes a bad picture!

Cute Big Boy Saturday

Birthday snuggles with my boys...

Friday Five

The boys both had a decent week back at school. The highlight according to Jay was that one of the little girls broke her ankle and they got to sign her cast. Lol. Shawn's highlight was that he got to play Bingo and call out the numbers. He thought it was pretty awesome that he won the game while he was at it!

~~~
Just got word that starting next week, the boys will have to do weekly book reports. Someone kill me now. This does not sound at all fun for me...I mean them. ;)
~~~

Potty training = so! much! fun!

Or, you know, not.

He completely understands what he needs to do. He can do it. But, his desire to walk away from whatever he is doing to go pee in the potty is pretty much non existent. And he's stubborn, which of course comes directly from his father. Ahem.

~~~
A cute thing that Jack started doing is to bring his stuffed Mike, from Monsters, Inc., to lunch every day. Mike sits at the table and "eats" with us. Jack insists I feed Mike whatever he's eating, too. The funniest part is that Mike has this way of eating all of his food the second my back is turned. Cracks me up!
~~~

Jack continues to hone his photography skills. He managed to get a hold of my camera this week and took these...

Not too shabby!

Spring Pictures Are Here!

I am THRILLED! :)

Can't you just die from the cute? Love them!

*Unfortunately my scanner is not playing nice with my computer, so you'll have to settle with pictures of pictures. The real deal is even better! ;)

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

After telling someone more than once to go to bed...

"Why are you so mean? You are VERY mean. No, you are a HUNDRED PERCENTAGE mean!"

It was complete with an exasperated sigh and a storming off to his room.

Isn't it a little early for the preteen drama? Lol.

Big Day

Today was the boys' first day back at school after vacation. Both boys had good days back at school.

Today we got serious about completely potty training Jack. Until now, we've been really laid back about it, having him go mostly only when he intiated it. The goal is to have him be fully rained by the end of the week. (May this be a fast process, please!)

Today the big boys had their biannual eye exams, too.

Both boys got new scripts for glasses. Shawn's script change is because of  a stigmatism in his right eye; Jason is going to get glasses again to have when his eyes are feeling tired or for when he's feeling eye strain, so they don't need to be worn all the time.

Both boys had their eyes dilated, which is always fun. Shawn did much better with this process than Jay. :) They flipped roles for the actual exam with Jason doing much better than Shawn for that process. Lol. The way these two tag team each other kind of cracks me up.

Sea World - A Picture Post of Our Trip

We headed out Wednesday afternoon.

We started with a little fine dining. :)

Jay claimed the sofa for himself.

Shawn decided he was going to sleep with mommy--and loved every moment.

This was Jack at 11:00 pm. He had mounds of energy
the entire trip!
Thursday was our day at Sea World.

Jay pet some sharks.

Jack did, too, but he was a little too rough.

Jay grabbed Jack's hand and showed him what to do, though.

We read every single sign we passed.

The dolphins were a hit with all of the boys!

A little girl fell in love with Jason. She and her poor mom
followed us around for the longest time. lol

We pet some stingrays, too.

We even got to feed the rays some fish.

The rays sucked the fish up like little vacuums. It was odd.

We watched a show.

Shawn thought it was okay. (It was kind of hokey.)

Shawn was fascinated in the sea turtle exhibit. He thought it
was fun to try to count all the fish. lol

We did play in the water pad a bit.

Although it just didn't go over as well as it had in the past.

Jack loved the roller coasters.

And would have rode them all day if he could have.

He also played a little "Wack-a-Mole,"

Jay and I enjoyed a yummy funnel cake, too!
After Sea World, we went back to the hotel and spent some time in the hot tub. It was so nice. The big boys were worn out at the end of the day!

It's so funny that they are sleeping in the same position.

They never sleep together, so this was pretty neat to see.
Jack, on the other hand, had the same energy level he had the night before...no sleeping pictures of him to be found. :)

We headed home after breakfast Friday morning. All in all it was a fun trip!
