Friday Five

Our garden is doing well! Our first strawberry is ready to be picked. The tomatoes are ready to be staked. And there is lots of green everywhere! Yay!

~~~
Today was the big day for our butterflies. We released them this afternoon. We wish them well!
~~~

Jack has decided that his preferred food is popsicles--red popsicles to be exact. He thinks that he should have them at all meals, including snacks, and shame on us for not giving them to him. lol. Granted it's been hot around these parts lately, but still. It's not going to happen, bud.

~~~
Jason: "Mom, please eat the rest of my donut. I insist."
It sounded pretty generous until I saw what he left me...
That there is the world's smallest bite of donut ever. :)
Thanks, kid.
~~~

We've been out in the pool several times so far. Shawn was a little reluctant to be in the pool at first, but he is getting more and more comfortable each time. I figure he's going to be a fish by the end of summer. :)

~~~
A bonus - Speaking of summer, where did it go?! The boys start school in 19 days. There is so much to do, so little time!
We Have Butterflies!!!
Today we watched the miracle of butterfly birth. Lol. Our little quints emerged from their chrysalides as dainty butterflies this afternoon, and to be honest, we are all quite entranced by the process.
It's been a lot of fun watching them flutter around and get used to their new wings. We even gave them their first meal of orange slices and some banana.
We have a couple of days to enjoy them before we let them go, but we're all excited to do it all again!
Pool Time!
We got our pool up, and the boys jumped right in!
We've already heard, "Can we go out in the pool?" a million times since. :) The good news is that it's so hot the answer is usually, "Yes!"
Another Experiment!
Shawn did another experiment today. :)
He poured in a little water and oil.
He saw that they wouldn't mix together.
(I added a bit of food coloring.)
Then he added some Alka-seltzer and made some
carbon dioxide gas.
He saw how the gas bubbles attached to the color
blobs in the water and would rise to the top.
(He thought this was pretty cool!)
Then we got crazy and added lots of different colors
into the water. We ended up with this dark, blah color.
(He was not impressed with the color.)
He even got out the magnifying glass to further inspect everything.
Fun!
Cute Big Boy Saturday - Making Popsicles!
We made popsicles this week. The boys each took a turn squeezing lemons or oranges.
Shawn wanted an orange popsicle.
He carefully poured his fresh juice into his popsicle form.
Jason went for lemon popsicles. He's taste
testing the lemon juice for the right tartness.
When he was done, he poured his juice into the form.
Jack also squeezed juice, but alas, there is no picture. I needed another set of hands. Pretend you see him squeezing his own lemons here. ;-)
Jason enjoyed the finished product!
The enjoyed making them and it's been so hot around here, that I foresee many more of these in our future!
Friday Five
Butterfly watch continues. Our little quints are in their safe cocoons, waiting to emerge beautiful butterflies! We transfer them to their butterfly house tomorrow afternoon. :)
They went into their "J" shape on Wednesday night.
They were already into their chrysalises on Thursday morning!
~~~

With last weekend's rains, our plants have come alive! It's so exciting to see how much growth they've had this week!

Last week on the left; this week on the right.

~~~
With the crash of my computer's hard drive, I lost all of our family pictures. (Insert big, sad tears here. Sigh.) So, when an opportunity to take more pictures came up, I jumped on it. Tomorrow we head out to take some new shots. Fingers crossed everyone cooperates!
~~~

Although I'd prefer to pretend that summer will last forever, I did break down and start buying back to school supplies for the boys. I found an awesome deal on backpacks, so I let the boys pick out their favorites. Jason picked one that is influenced by the California flag, which is totally in character because he is very into flags. lol

Shawn went with something that was very similar to what he had last year, again very within character. He likes to stay with the tried and true. :)

I prefer not to think about how July is nearly over and school will be here before we know it. The time is flying by!

~~~
Jack's new obsession is the "Small Potato" videos. (If you click the link, it has a 30 second intro of their theme song. Then you'll hear Jack's favorite song, "Feelings." Picture him belting the song out at the top of his lungs while he dances around in the kitchen!) They are British. Of course that means that Jack thinks he's British, too. Lol.
Our Silly Boys
What is so funny, you silly boys?
Is it your daddy doing something crazy? He's just spraying the window with a little water. ;)
But boy is he making you laugh like crazy loons when he does.
You guys laughed so hard!
We couldn't help but laugh with you!
We love you so much, you silly boys!
Mostly Wordless Wednesday
Not sure if Woody is leading them or if he has a toy mutiny on his hands...
I think I'm leaning toward the mutiny scenario.
Another Episode of Where Will We Find Him?
While lying on the couch, I hear Jack call out, "Help! I'm stuck!" I looked down to find this..,
He realized I was watching him.
"Help! I'm stuck!"
"I can't get out!"
I asked him if he knew about the boy who cried wolf.
So I told him. By his look, it's obvious he didn't care. lol
This was his reaction when I told him to get out.
