By the Numbers - A Mish Mash of This and That
We haven't done one of these for a bit, so it is time to catch up.
8 - size Jason wears in both shirts and pants. (The pants are just too big around the waist.)
7 - size Shawn wears in shirts.
6 - size Shawn wears in pants.
5 - size Jack wears in shirts. (Gone are the days of the Ts.)
4/5 - size Jack wears in pants. (The pants are too big around the waist.)
2 - days of school missed so far! (Awesome for us! Both were missed by Shawn. Poor guy.)
65 - the number of school days for them so far this year.
15 - the number of days until winter break...and yes, we're counting!
15 - the number of weekdays the boys will get off of school.

Friday Five
The boys had this week off of school. They made sure to fill it with fun...like being sick and doctor's visits. Way to live it hard, gentlemen!
On the positive side, I think they are all on the upswing today.

Yesterday, for Thanksgiving, I am happy to say that the boys actually ate the Thanksgiving meal! Wooohooo. While Shawn will pretty much try anything (within reason), I was surprised that Jason actually tried and even semi-liked turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. His favorites were the jello salad, cranberry sauce, and the rolls. lol
Shawn, on the other hand, said his favorite was the bacon. (He swore the turkey was bacon, so we went with that. ;-) )

Jack has had a recent renewed interest in Monsters Inc, and we've watched it several times this week, including this morning. Imagine my surprise when Facebook had a On This Day post pop up that showed Jack last year doing exactly what he was doing today. Watching Monsters Inc. lol

Shawn loves talking on the phone. He often earns a call to grandma for doing well on his homework, and he is always ready to call her to share the different things that happen during his day. He's also found that when he's at grandma's, he gets to call Aunt Cindy/Uncle Cal and even Grandma Jerry in Arizona. They like to talk to him, and he loves to talk to them, so it's a win/win. lol
Today, while on the phone with Aunt Cindy, she must have asked what everyone is doing. Shawn held the phone away from his mouth and asked me what Jason was doing, so he could answer the question. "He's playing with the fart gun," I told him.
"Um, Aunt Cindy, Jason is playing with his farts," he told her. Lol. He was mostly right, I guess. We all just about died from laughter. Too funny!

Jack surprised us again by going to the door and asking, "Quien es?" The kid is picking up Spanish in record time!

Conversations With 4 Year Olds
He came to me last night, open milk jug and cup in hand. "Quiero leche, mama." he said. When I asked if he was finished, he told me, "Es todo." Aside from the fact that he had somehow managed to sneak into the fridge without my knowledge (stinker), I was quite proud of the effort.
The kid is learning Spanish faster than I can keep up!

The Doctor Is Waiting
This is a toy, a toy who apparently suffered great bodily harm during a play session.

Joe was so hurt, the poor guy needed to have x-rays to check the extent of his injuries.

Joe needed quite the number of interventions to help him.

You will be happy to know that Joe has now made a full recovery due to the diligent work by Dr. Jay. Thank goodness the doctor was willing and waiting when Joe had his unfortunate accident. :)

Friday Five
Jack loves to watch his videos, and I'd say he watches at least 50% of the time in Spanish. He regularly asks for things with the Spanish word (like saying "leche" for milk), but it was still surprising to have Jack stop in the doorway on the way out of grandma's house and say, "Bye abuela!" to her. LOL.

Parent conferences were this week. Both big boys were doing just as we expected! We have a few things to work on and many things to celebrate. Yay! Way to go, boys!

The boys have been fighting some kind of bug this week. Poor guys.

Jason has been begging to play the Wii for a while now. He just about exploded from excitement when we hooked it up this week so we could play. We have been having loads of fun sword fighting and knocking each other off of the platform into the water.

A discussion in the aisles of Target...
Him: "Dad, what's Platex?"
Isaac: "It's a company."
Him: "What do they make?"
Isaac: "It's the company that makes products."
Him: "Yeah, but what do they make?"
Isaac: They make products for women."
Him: "What kind of products?"
Isaac: "Are you a woman?"
Him: "No."
Isaac: "Do you plan on becoming a woman?"
Him: "NO."
Isaac: "Then don't worry about it!"

Dioramas!
The boys got to make dioramas as part of their homework this week. They had to choose a story from their text book and create a diorama of one of the scenes from their selected story.
Shawn picked the story "Dragon Gets By" by Dav Pilkey for his project. Because Shawn has been all about Play-Doh lately, he created his main character dragon out of some!
This was a cute project. They both even had fun putting them together. Me, too, which is a plus! ;)

World Prematurity Day

Today we are purple.
Purple to honor all of the millions of babies worldwide who were born too soon.
Purple to honor the fight of those babies and their families for survival.
Purple to honor those babies who can fight no more.
Today we are purple to honor those we love who have been touched by prematurity.
Today I was purple to honor our super boys, Shawn and Jason.
I will forever be amazed by the strength and determination our two boys showed in the early days of their lives (and continue to show today). They endured more in those months than many people ever experience in their entire lives. It seemed like every complication possible was thrown their way, but together they conquered the NICU.
They captured the hearts of everyone who worked with them. (I think they still do. :) )
Our guys survived and thrive.
We are the lucky ones.

Born at 28 weeks and 3 days, our guys were not even 3 pounds and about as long as a Barbie doll. (As tiny as they were, they were huge for their gestation.)

They had a rough start, but our super boys are strong, smart, determined, and funny.
We are the lucky ones -- I hold that knowledge in my heart -- because our boys are here with us.
