Friday Five

We've had an eventful week, so we are glad to be back to the weekend.

Thankfully, Jack's rash has gone. He broke out three days in a row, and then it went away.

~~~
Shawn had such a fun time at his Homecoming celebration. He has talked about it every day since his party. It's so cute.
~~~

Jason's Homecoming Day is next week! He's picked out a red velvet cake for his day. Yum!

~~~
Jack said he won the class Spelling Bee. The school-wide Bee will be in two weeks. Yay!
~~~

Today, Jack did not want to go to Target. He wanted to stay home and play Wii in peace and quiet. LOL

~~~
Just after we got everyone back to school, we got word that Shawn's aide at school tested positive. She had been with him the day she tested positive and two days before. Sigh. So far he continues to test negative, but I have to say that it's getting old. Sigh.
That Didn't Last Long
Jack went to school and had a pretty good day yesterday and today! Tonight, though, this happened. We're not sure what's going on, but it looks like he bought himself another day home while we figure it out.
Back in the Saddle Again!
Well, not saddle so much as school. LOL!
Jack has finally tested negative today. That means he can go back to school tomorrow. YAY! Somehow, the rest of us have managed to avoid our own positives this week. I'm really not sure how we did it, either.
It will be nice to get back to "normal" again, though.
Feeling Better
He's pretty much back to himself again. Yay!
Friday Five
Well, after all of our hard work at avoiding the plague, it caught up to us. Wednesday morning we woke up to Jack sniffing and clearing his throat. He said his throat was sore. I just knew in the pit of my stomach that he was going to be positive.
Sure enough, he was positive immediately as soon as the fluid moved past the test line, it was already dark pink. Sigh.
The rest of us took tests. No one else was positive, and no one else had symptoms.
Out of an abundance of caution, all the boys stayed home from school.
Jack has to be out of school through Monday. He can return on Tuesday with a negative test.
~~~

On Thursday, the four of us tested again. Everyone else was still negative, and we were still symptom free. According to our decision trees, that meant that the big boys were headed to school.

The same happened for today. Still negative and still no symptoms. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

~~~
Jack had to stay home from the weekly trip to Target. He was bummed, until he found the Wii. lol.
~~~

Jack is still congested and sounds sick. He will still say his throat bugs him off and on, but Advil has helped when needed.

He has been a bit clingier than his norm, but he's handling things okay overall.

~~~
This week has been stressful.
How Jack Does Sick
Jack seemed to enjoy his day home with dad.
He is definitely not feeling his best, but he's powering through.
Well Crap
So this happened today. Sigh.
Jack woke up with a sore throat and congestion today. Sure enough. Fingers crossed everyone else can stay healthy.
Friday Five
Well, we're 10 weeks into the school year, and we have now had our second cold (although again we are Covid negative). The best thing about distance learning was how healthy we were the whole time. We get back to school, and bam. Sick. Sigh.
~~~

This Friday is the end of the boys' first trimester in school. Two more trimesters to go!

~~~
The boys were so excited about their birthday this week. I think it was even scored a 10 out of 10, according to Jason. I'm so glad they had a great day.
~~~

Jason joined the MESA (math, engineering and science achievement) club at school this week. He is excited that they'll get to do competitions and other kinds of fun things this year. He still says he things engineering is in his future, so this is exciting!

~~~
Exciting weekend ahead - pumpkin carving and Halloween. Fun!
Friday Five
Well, Shawn continues to show zero symptoms or any congestion or fever. We had his COVID swab appointment today, which was a less than pleasant experience for all involved. Lol. We should get the results on Sunday. If they don't come then, he'll have to stay home another day.
~~~

The other two guys finished their school weeks off strong. It's hard to believe we are already through 6 weeks of school. I hope it keeps this rapid pace for the remainder of the year.

~~~
We have family pictures next weekend! Yay!
~~~

Jack has his school pictures on the 5th. Fingers crossed that we get good ones. We got the dynamic duos pics back, and once again they've left us wanting. I don't know why it is so hard for Jostens to take good school pics.

~~~
We've started Halloween costume discussions. Shawn is saying he wants to be his usual, so I'm going to make that happen for him. I'm in negotiations for Jason and Jack. I am pushing for something super cute, so I hope they go for it!
Sent Home
Well, it finally happened. 6 weeks into the school year, someone was sent home for COVID symptoms. Shawn was sent home this afternoon because he had symptoms:
  • fever of 100*
  • congestion
  • fatigue
Oddly, he didn't have any symptoms when he left school. He wasn't feverish. He wasn't congested. And well, when you have CP and walk around a large school, you are bound to be fatigued. It was also 93* outside and Shawn had just come in from sitting outside in the sun. Still, this means he has to go get a COVID test and a negative result before he can go back. That means he's out for at least tomorrow, too, while we wait for results that we know will be negative. Sigh.
I mean, we get it. We have to be safe. It's hard not to be frustrated, though, especially when there are zero symptoms at home.
Sick
Jack got to have test number 2 today - still negative.
No school today.
Friday Five
Week 4 is in the books. We've officially made it to the one month mark of school. Yay!
~~~

Today Jack woke up with a sore throat. We did the whole "is he" or "isn't he" sick thing, but he assured us his throat was feeling better before it was time for school. Maybe he slept with his mouth open?

When it was still sore when he made it back home this afternoon, we called it. We officially have the first cold of the school year. Sigh.

Thankfully, home Covid test was negative, but he did have to stay home while Shawn and his dad went to Target. He was not happy. :(

School during a pandemic is not without it's stress, that is for sure.

~~~
This week brought school picture day for the big boys! It's always a gamble as to what will come of the day, but I am always hopeful. LOL
~~~

Speaking of pictures, I set a date for our yearly family photos! Now I am stressing out about what to wear. Eek!

~~~
Jack has begged me for more Jell-o tonight. His preference is the blueberry flavor. SO glad jello is easy to make. lol
Upswing
This dude is feeling better. Yay!
Morning Shawn - not quite there.
He says he's at 85% here.
He's back! Being outside makes everything better. :)
Sick Again
It's been such a long time since one of these guys was sick that we almost forgot how to do this. Shawn felt pretty miserable all day and night. Poor guy.
Friday Five
This week of the month means we have only one more month of summer left before school starts. We are not ready for summer to end!
~~~

There were big plans for all that we would accomplish this summer. We had done absolutely none of those plans. lol. There have been lazy days of ipad, pool playing, television watching, and boredom (when the previous items are not in play). We have done zero schoolwork. Our reading has been limited. We hit the wall and have stepped back from demands for the time being.

Let me just say, it has been a WELCOMED and NEEDED change. That being said, it might be time for us to get back into the swing of things...maybe. Soonish. Or not. We shall see.

~~~
We have been watching LOTS of the Olympics, or as Shawn calls it, "The Sportathon". It has been fun to see all the different events. Fun!
~~~

Gracie got pretty sick last weekend. I tried everything to get her into a vet, but there were no appointments to be had. Even the vet emergency clinics wouldn't see us! We were all very worried that it might be the end for our Gracie girl.

Somehow, our girlie turned it around. We pushed water and gourmet food (real chicken!) and lots of loving. Today, you'd be amazed to see her. She looks so good! Now we wait for the first appointment I could get her at the end of August.

~~~
Speaking of sick, we had a bit of a COVID scare this week. Despite vaccination, double masking, and being very careful, somehow Isaac managed to come down with three symptoms this week. He got his test, and we waited on pins and needles for the results. Thankfully it was negative.
Our area has had a rapid increase of infections and they are seeing some breakthrough cases of COVID among vaccinated people. This has been yet another reminder to continue to be vigilant to keep ourselves safe.
It also brings up the worry about what will happen with school...sigh.
The Aftermath
The dynamic duo made it through the day about as well as we could have hoped. Both were definitely tired and lacked energy. Jason said a few times throughout the day that his head hurt, too. Shawn experienced the most symptoms. He had a low grade fever and a bit of nausea toward the end of the day. Hopefully with a good night's sleep, they'll wake up feeling back to themselves.
We are just so proud of these boys willingly getting their shots so that we can all get closer back to normal.
Jack is waiting for his shot, too!
Friday Five
The boys made it to spring break! They are so excited to have the next two weeks off. I still have one week to go before I get off, too. Yea!
~~~

We got the boys' report cards this week. The big boys both got all As! Way to go, guys! Jack isn't getting grades (they're not giving grades to the elementary kiddos during online schooling), but his teacher wrote a nice note saying he is doing very well, too. He has completed all of his work, and his overall scores on Canvas are pretty high, too.

We are very proud of all of them!

~~~
We have fun plans for the weekend! We have cookie decorating, some painting, and some working outside on our garden ahead of us!
~~~

It's hard to believe our Mr. Jack has his 10th birthday on Tuesday! He is very excited. We have decided I'm going to take the day off that day so we can go do something as a family. We're trying to find a nice hiking path we can go visit so we can all get outside a bit or something like that. Should be a fun day!

~~~
All of us have had allergies this week. According to the pollen counts, our area has pretty high counts for tree pollen and grass. I guess this is another example of the family that sneezes together, stays together. (Nowadays, no one else would want us if we're sneezing anyway! lol)
Mostly Wordless Wednesday
Poor Jack is having a hard time with allergies this week. You know it's bad when the kid asks for his allergy pill. Poor guy.
Poor  guy has circles under his eyes! :(
Friday Five
This has been quite the week around these parts. Isaac and then I was out of commission for a full 24 hours with the side effects from the vaccine. The boys took Monday off (Isaac was sick and I had to work) and then I took Tuesday off, but it still dragged on forever.
~~~

We went for a drive around town today. Drove by the beach and then the base and looked at the airplanes. We were out for a little over an hour. It has been a long time since we've been out. It almost felt odd.

~~~
There is talk about school opening for me in April. The boys' district hasn't said anything about their opening date, but the boys will stay home for the remainder of the school year. (We need them to be vaccinated before we can get them back to school--hopefully for fall!). This news brings a whole lot of different emotions for all of us. Sigh.
~~~

The end of the second trimester for the boys was today. Everyone seems to be doing as well as can be expected. There's lots of learning and growth happening, too, which is pretty amazing.

~~~
Jack is now anxiously awaiting his 10th birthday at the end of the month. (His second birthday under quarantine. 🙁) He has visions of a birthday present tower to unwrap. lol. I'm not sure where he got that idea from, but I can't seem to sway him from it.
Whelp
Yeah, this hasn't been a fun day for me, but thankfully Isaac is feeling better! Today I've been dealing with fever, chills, body aches, fatigue, and some nausea, oh my. The second dose of Moderna had quite the kick to it.
This girl has been my constant companion today. I think she's trying to help me ward off the chills or something. lol
