Friday Five
This coming week will be Teacher Appreciation Week at the boys' school. I had already figured I'd be heading to Starbucks to get some gift cards for their teachers, and then they came home with this flyer:

The PTA at the boys' school are asking the kids to bring the teachers/staff an "Italian Dinner in a Bag." Students are supposed to bring an item on the list based on the letter of their last name. For us, that means the boys are supposed to bring pizza toppings.
Now call me a party pooper, but I don't know if I can bring myself to go buy perishable items to send to school as an "appreciation" gift. My mind goes to all kinds of crazy scenarios most of which don't end up with a happy ending for the teachers! lol
~~~
Jack was climbing trees...or, um, stumps...and got stuck. LOL!
Also, this tree may never leave our yard at this rate.
~~~
The boys' principal said over the school intercom today that students could nominate someone at school for the "employee of the month." Jay's been thinking about it and decided that he wanted to submit the name of a noon supervisor because "she is always so nice to me, and I like her a lot." He later told me that this person treats him (and Shawn) like "VIPs." Melt my heart!
I asked Shawn who he would nominate. He decided that he would nominate his current teacher. I asked him why. "Because I love her." That right there says it all. :)
~~~
Shawn is amazing people at school with his mad multiplication skillz. Go, Shawn!
~~~
Jason won a necklace for his work in an egg and spoon race at school. He is VERY proud. Go, Jay!

Flashback Friday
From May, 2009. The dynamic duo were not quite a year and a half adjusted.
It's so neat to see how much (and how little!) has changed from that time. lol

Happy Homecoming Day, Shawn!
On this day five years ago, our little Shawn came home from the hospital! We were so excited to get the chance to finally be parents without the watchful eyes of the hospital personnel.
Picking him up without having to juggle wires was pure bliss. Sigh. I'm pretty sure all I did that first night was feed him every three hours and stare in wonder at him the rest of the night.
Happy Homecoming Day, Shawn!
Tomorrow, we get to celebrate! ;-)

| It blows my mind to look at how tiny he was -- and he was four times his birth weigh here! |

Flashback Friday
I really think that Jack is working on more teeth. He is drooling like crazy, his cheeks are flushed right around where his back teeth are, and he is chewing on everything he can--all classic signs for him. For those of you keeping track, you know he already has all of his teeth except his two year molars. Doctor Google (Oh how handy you are, my dear Google) has informed me that it is indeed possible to get your two year molars before you are even a year and a half...especially if you teethed early, like Mr. Jack.
Apparently two of these Lopez boys like to do things early when it comes to teeth.
~~
I had decided that today would be a Flashback Friday post mostly because it is Friday, and we are still getting used to the whole back to school routine.
Then, I knew it had to be a Flashback Friday when I saw what was going on in our lives on these very days in 2008.

Post #1 from August 23, 2008:
One Word
Miserable.
Jason is just miserable.
We went to the pediatrician yesterday, where I was given an explanation for his grumpiness. The boy is teething. Not one. Not two. Not even three teeth. The poor thing is swollen in FIVE different places. It really started to get bad last night. One of his canine teeth has broken through the gums, his two front teeth are going to break through at any moment (I think one might have already, but I don't want to swear on it), and he is swollen for two more canines. Yikes.
Today he has been feeling horrible. He didn't even want to jump in his jumper! That tells me it is pretty bad. He's been getting Tylenol regularly and baby Oragel. Other than that, there just isn't much more I can do but love on him. (and yes, I do quite a bit of that)
He doesn't want to eat, he sleeps fitfully, and cries big boo hoo tears. It's been like that since around 11 last night.
Right now, he is sleeping quietly in his swing. This is practically the first time he's let me put him down all night and day.
Little Shawn Bon isn't liking that his brother is hogging all of the attention. Plus, he is gnawing on his hand much more than usual. It looks like Shawn is trying to jump on this teething train, too. Hopefully his bottom teeth will finally come in soon. If not, he is going to chew his hand right off!
Other than all of the teething stuff, things have been quiet around here. Just how we like it.

Three Down...
only two to go!
Jason now has 5 teeth.
Shawn still has 0.
I think we are through the worst part of this round of teething. (knock on everything wood around you, please. knock HARD!) He is starting to eat again, and is smiling a little more. Yea. I hope the other two break through soon.
----------
School started today. I survived. My mom survived. The boys survived. All in all, it was a good day!
----------
Lastly, here is the thing you come around for most--pictures! I took these last week (pre-teething).

~~~
It feels a bit like our lives have been in this state of perpetual teething!
I don't know about you, but I think it is SO cool that I can go back and see a snapshot of our lives at any given time! I am thankful for this blog!
Flashback Friday - A Year Ago Today
August 17, 2011
My how they've grown this year!
I had to laugh because there was also a video of Jack rolling over from front to back on this day last year.
