2021 Revisited

2021 was quite a year.  We finished an entire school year online and then transitioned back to in-person school in the fall. We all finally got our vaccinations, which helped us all breathe a bit easier. And through it all, we managed to make the best of things and enjoy ourselves the best we could.

We are all happy, thriving, and healthy, too. Can't beat that!
As is the tradition when things come to an end, it is time to sit back and reflect on the year.

I did this meme in 2012201320142015, and 20162019, 2020 and 2021. The rules are to post the first sentence (or sentences) of the first blog post for every month of 2020. I added my comments about the post after. Here we go...

January -- Hanging Out in the New Year: A snapshot of the crew doing their favorite things.

February -- That Didn't Take Long: Jason managed to eat his way through his 3 pound Hershey bar.

March -- Vaccinated: A celebration that mom and dad were able to get their Covid vaccinations!

April -- Easter Cookie Decorating: The crew had fun decorating some cookies

May -- So Big: Shawn has changed so much this year!

June -- Facebook Memory: A reminder that I started a 30-day blogging challenge 10 years ago...and never stopped blogging daily!

July -- Glimpse: A snapshot of Jason after he got out of the pool.

August -- Almost Grown: A snapshot of Shawn sitting next to his dad on the couch. He's (they both are) getting so big!

September -- Way Back Wednesday: A shot of Jack from 2018, hanging out in the trampoline.

October -- Friday Five: Shawn was sent home from school and we were awaiting his Covid results (negative) among other updates.

November -- Picture Retake: Jason's updated picture is just so him! Love it!

December -- Way Back Wednesday: A sweet revisit of Jack getting an award in 2016.

2020 Revisited

As is the tradition when things come to an end, it is time to sit back and reflect on the year.

2020 was a year like no other, for sure, but we managed to make the best of things and enjoy ourselves the best we could.

We are all happy, thriving, and healthy, too. Can't beat that!

~~~
I did this meme in 2012201320142015, and 2016, 2019, and 2020. The rules are to post the first sentence (or sentences) of the first blog post for every month of 2020. I added my comments about the post after. Here we go...
January - Dentist Visit: Jack went to the dentist and had a great time!
February - Happy Homecoming Day, Shawn! We celebrated Shawn's Homecoming Day a little after the fact because we were all sick on his actual day.
March - Memories: This came up on my Facebook feed - a memory from 2016. We watched the Princess and the Frog, and Jason used sarcasm to describe how he felt about it. Still makes me laugh.
April - What They're Reading: I love looking back to see all that the boys learn throughout the year. We had just started schooling at home at this point (nothing was officially assigned, but we did get suggested activities to do at home). At this point in time, I don't think anyone could have believed we'd still be learning at home here in 2021, but I digress.
May - Friday Five: This was a weekly check in after 7 weeks of social distancing. Actual online school was in full swing. We were still doing a lot of adjusting to the new "normal."
June - Hurry Up to Slow Down: As we rounded into the start of June, we were all looking forward to finishing the whole online school thing. (Again...if we only knew what was coming! lol)
July - Water Balloon Toss: A fun day in our pool. Shawn and Jack spent the afternoon throwing water balloons at the fence and each other!
August - Cute Big Boy Saturday: This was Jack's favorite after swimming activity - eat popcorn and a popsicle. (The boy still wants to eat his daily popcorn. lol)
September - Is There a Message Here? This was one of Jason's drawings I found. It was a "Frost Thrower" to cool your wife down when she's mad. LOL
October - Rocks: Online schooling was back in full swing at this point. This is Jack's slide show about rocks.
November - Pumpkin Carving: We had carved our pumpkins the day before, but the pictures didn't make it on the blog until November. I love that when the boys do things, each one's personality shines through their creations!
December - He's Back: Our Elf on the Shelf came back! He had to isolate himself for a day, per elf safety regulations, but he did bring the boys some advent calendars. :)
Even with the hard, 2020 was a gift for Team Lopez in a lot of ways, and
we definitely appreciate how fortunate our family truly is.
We are healthy and happy.
We look forward to seeing what 2021 has in store for us--
hopefully
it will be filled with much laughter, love, and fun!
2019 Revisited
As is the tradition when things come to an end, it is time to sit back and reflect on the year. There were definitely many exciting things that happened in 2019, and for the most part, it was another good year for Team Lopez. :-)
We are all happy, thriving, and healthy, too. Can't beat that!
I did this meme in 2012201320142015, and 2016, and 2019. I took a few years off, but I think it's time to start it up again. The rules are to post the first sentence (or sentences) of the first blog post for every month of 2019. I added my comments about the post after. Here we go...
January - Mostly Wordless Wednesday: Jack wants so badly for Gracie to like him. She tolerates him, but tends to run away if he gets too close. He keeps trying though!
February - Friday Five: A quick weekly catch up. This one included a school project, a Spelling Bee email, and a sneaky Shawn, who likes to put me to sleep. lol
March - Friday Foto: A sweet little shot of Jay on the day before the Bee.
April - School: Everyone finally made it back to school after a round of germs. Plus, the big boys got a new teacher mid year.
May - Way Back Wednesday: Little Jack singing on his microphone. Aw...melt.
June - Friday Five on Saturday: Due to some assemblies at school, I did the weekly update on Saturday. School was almost out, Shawn was practicing his Spanish (which came in handy for school this year!), and we started working on our Summer Bucket List!
July - This Face...: A cute picture of sweet Jack. :)
August - Throwback Thursday: A shot of tiny, blond Jason and I at my niece's wedding in 2008.
September - Breaking Board: Jason and his dad were trying to break a "board" with his head. He was semi successful!
October - Sick Again: 4 out of the 5 of us were sick. Boo.
November - Friday Five: This week was eventful. We had Santa Ana winds and poor air quality. School was canceled for us all for two different days.  The week also included picture retakes for the big boys and work on a biography project for Jack.
December - Christmas Crafting: The boys worked on macaroni Christmas trees. So fun!
2019 was a good year for Team Lopez.
We look forward to seeing what 2020 has in store for us--hopefully
it will be filled with much laughter, love, and fun!
We hope you and yours have a wonderful 2020!
2018 Revisited
As is the tradition when things come to an end, it is time to sit back and reflect on the year. There were definitely many exciting things that happened in 2018, and for the most part, it was another good year for Team Lopez. :-)
We are all happy, thriving, and healthy, too. Can't beat that!
I did this meme in 201220132014, 2015, and 2016. I took a few years off, but I think it's time to start it up again. The rules are to post the first sentence (or sentences) of the first blog post for every month of 2018. I added my comments about the post after. Here we go...
January - Disney Day 1: "We started our trip to Disney on Saturday. We ended up arriving at the hotel at about 4:00 pm." This trip to Disney was so much fun. The  boys still talk about the epicness of that trip. It's easy to see why so many people get hooked to the Disney magic.
February - Spelling Bee Day 2: "Today was the continuation of Jason's Spelling Bee! There was heavy competition - 14 spellers were still in the running at the end of yesterday." We are so proud of Jason and how well he did in the school and then district Spelling Bees! He totally rocked it. :)
March - Throw Back Thursday: "This one is a bit blurry, but oh, his face! This was from March, 2014." Oh my goodness this picture of Jack with a sticker on his nose still is one of my favorites, blurriness and all!
April - Happy Easter: "Happy Easter! We had a family day filled with fun. :)" The boys got a visit from the Easter Bunny, dyed Easter Eggs, and did an Easter Egg hunt! Such a fun day!
May - Painting: "Painting his turtle for the garden!" Jack painted his turtle for our garden outside. Unfortunately, the turtle still has yet to make his appearance outside into the garden, but he'll get there eventually. LOL
June - Friday Five: "Believe it or not, I was wrong about the end day of the boys' school year. They actually get out a day earlier than I thought...they only have 9 days left. Woohoo!" We all SO look forward to the end of the school year. This year will be a little bittersweet, though, as the boys will be moving off to junior high school next year. (Mind blowing!) This post also told a little story of Shawn's chipper morning because he thought it was the last day of school that day. Boy was he disappointed. LOL
July - Question of the Week: "What would you say is something that comes easily to...?" I think those answers still hold true for our guys.
August - Mostly Wordless Wednesday: "These two spent some time playing outside today..." Shawn and Jack went outside to play in the pool. They get along so well together (most of the time).
September - Lot: "Today's parking lot set-up" This was one of Jason's creations. He loves to design parking lots, car accident scenes, and all kinds of other scenarios. He doesn't limit himself, either. He likes to create multi dimensional paper versions of his creations, too.
October - Science Fun: "We made a little Oobleck this weekend." Jack and Jason had lots of fun with the Oobleck we made. They both like all things slimy and icky. so this was perfect for them. LOL
November - Throwback Thursday: "Halloween 2014" Man, these kids are cute. This is the trio in their Halloween costumes back in 2014. Shawn was "Where's Waldo?" Jason was a Nascar driver. (This was also the year he didn't wear glasses!) Jack was just about the cutest little Elvis I ever did see!
December - Jack and His Prize: "Jack got this little mini trophy at school this week. He has been having the BEST time with this thing! He is so proud of it!" Jack is still doing so well with his reading! And yep, he still has his little trophy on his shelf. :)
2018 was a good year for Team Lopez.
We look forward to seeing what 2019 has in store for us--hopefully
it will be filled with much laughter, love, and fun!
We hope you and yours have a wonderful 2019!
2015 Revisited
Today is New Year's Day. We spent a quiet day at grandma's house last night, finishing puzzles, getting crazy with some party favors, and celebrating my brother's birthday. We even toasted to the new year (we celebrated east coast time) with sparkling cider. It was a fun time. :)
As is the tradition when things come to an end, it is time to sit back and reflect on the year. There were definitely many exciting things that happened in 2015, and for the most part, it was another good year for Team Lopez. :-)
We are all happy, thriving, and healthy, too. Can't beat that!
~~~

I did this meme in 20112012, 2013, and last year, so of course I need to do it again. The rules are to post the first sentence (or sentences) of the first blog post for every month of 2015. I added my comments about the post after. Here we go...

January - Friday Five (1/2/15) "The boys have recently developed a strong interest in all things money. Because of that, this year the boys are going to actively start saving some of it." Oh boy did the boys have fun saving money. I'll admit to being really good about keeping up with it, too...until around September. lol. They all saved quite a bit, however, and are very conscious about spending money now which was my ultimate goal. They are conscious about it, at least, when it is their money they're spending. :)

February - I'll Take Care of You (2/1/15) "I haven't felt well this weekend, as it seems I caught another round of crud the boys brought home. Anyway, I spent a lot of my time on the couch. Today, Shawn was super sweet and attentive. He frequently came over to me to rub my head, and he gave me imaginary medicine several different times. 'I know your head hurts, mom. Don't worry. I'll take care of you.'" Shawn is definitely my sweetie. He is always very concerned with how others are feeling and is always willing to offer his sympathy when things are tough.

March - Sick-o-Rama (3/1/15) "I have nothing very entertaining to say today because 4/5 of us are feeling like this to some degree..." We spent a lot of that school year sick. First grade was really, really hard on us health wise. Thankfully, we are all sick a LOT less this school year. (I'm throwing salt and spitting over my shoulder as I type this. No use tempting fate with such blatant declarations of health. lol)

April - April Fooled! (4/1/15) "Trick #1: The mustaches were a big hit with the boys, so much so, they wanted to wear the 'staches all day. :) I had to reapply their mustaches about mid way through the day." This day was so much fun. The boys loved their tricks and still talk about the fun of April Fool's Day.

May - Friday Five (5/1/15) "Yeah! Grandma is back! I know some boys who are very excited. :)" We all are happy when she is near. Shawn loves calling grandma every day, and Jay is always up for going to visit grandma at her house!

June - My Best Friend, a Composition (6/1/15) "My Best Friend, If my best friend Emily would spend the summer with me we would do lots of things. First, we would go to the store. Second, we'd go to recess. Lastly, we would go to the park. I love Emily. By Shawn" I don't think Emily is around this year, but I love this sweet little letter he wrote.

July - Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Yuck! (7/1/15) "He kept saying it, but he never stopped eating it. Lol." Jack LOVES lemons. He would eat them all the time if I'd let him!

August - Cute Big Boy Saturday - They Love the Water! (8/1/15) "The pool is a favorite for all of them!" We spent a lot of time in our 12 foot above ground pool this summer. We've got some little fishes on our hands! (As long as we don't try to drown them by getting the water on their faces. Ahem.)

September - Self Portraits (9/1/15) "We went to the boys' Back to School Night this evening and found these beauties hanging on the wall..." I was so excited to see the boys' drawings and acrostic poems on the wall of their classroom! So, so cute!

October - Conversations With 7 Year Olds (10/1/15) "'If I ever open a restaurant, I'm going to put this meal on the menu. Chicken, blueberries, tortilla chips and cheese are the best meal ever.'" Jason has ever evolving tastes. I'm not sure this would be on the menu any more. :)

November - Vampire! (11/1/15) "We picked our carrots from the garden this evening. Jack took a liking to them, and before we knew it, he had eaten pretty much all that we picked! Lol" Jack is such a cutie even when he's supposed to be scary.

December - Elfie Is Back! (12/1/15) - "It's that time of year again! Elfie, our Elf on the Shelf, is back to hide around the house. He's ready to take notes on how the boys are behaving and report back to Santa on their "naughty" or "nice" status. " This elf sure kept mommy and daddy on our toes this year!

2015 was a good year for Team Lopez. (All except for the sickness, at least.)
We look forward to seeing what 2016 has in store for us--hopefully
it will be filled with much laughter, love, and fun!

We hope you and yours have a wonderful 2016!

2013 Revisited

The boys on New Year's Eve. We're party animals, as you can see. Actually, Isaac sent this to me because I was down for the count from the Plague and wasn't even there to wish them Happy New Year. (Notice how happy Jack is. Little does he know that he is a mere 3 hours away from misery himself. Poor oblivious little dude.)

~~~
There were so many exciting things that happened in 2013! It was another really good year for Team Lopez. :-)
I did this meme in 2012 and last year, so I thought I'd try it again. The rules are to post the first sentence of the first blog post for every month of 2013. I added my comments about the post after. Here we go...
January: Mostly Wordless Wednesday (1/2/13) "Currently residing in our bathroom..." This was another one of those crazy things the boys make and leave all over the house. In this case, they had made a tool set and left it in the bathroom. lol
February: Three Minutes (2/1/13) "I'm pretty sure he had no more than three minutes of alone time." This is an example of what happens when Jack gets a few minutes of unsupervised time. I'd like to say that he isn't quite as destructive now, but I'd by lying. He is every bit as destructive as he was then and more!
March: It's Not a Good Thing (3/1/13) "You know it's not a good thing when the usually non-stop chatterbox in the household has said approximately two words the entire evening." Ah, yes. Being sick was definitely a running theme for our family this year. It seemed like we were sick every other week all year long! Here's hoping to a healthier 2014 for all of us.
April: Magic Beans (4/1/13) "Last year we started the magic jelly bean tradition, so of course I was excited to continue it this year." Finding new traditions we can begin and continue has been something I have loved to do. The boys are at that magical age of believing, and it has been so much fun to watch them light up with these types of experiences. :)
May: Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Camouflage (5/1/13) "He was quiet proud of his camouflaged outfit the other day." Jason loves his camouflage, so much so that now all of the boys have camo shirts and Jay now has camo sheets!
June: Cute Baby Saturday - Chillin' (6/1/13) "In the tub." A cute picture of the littlest in the tub.
July: Summer Bucket List #36 - Fly a Kite (7/1/13) "This weekend we went to the park to take our first crack at flying a kite." It was not exactly the experience we pictured when we set out to fly kites, no wind will do that, but we had a lot of fun anyway! I really like that we make these bucket lists every summer. Having ideas to chose from ensures we do a little more with our time than just sit around and watch television annoy each other.
August: A Little Daddy and Son Moment (8/1/13) "Reading a book together..." This was a sweet moment of Shawn sitting on Isaac's lap reading a book together.
September: Fruit Salad (9/1/13) "Today, Jason decided he was going to help with snack time." He made his first fruit salad and was so proud of himself. They'd only been in school for a week at this point, but something had already happened to my big boys. They were just older and had this new found confidence that they can do ... stuff. It has been so awesome to watch these two become actual people.
October: Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Brotherly Love (10/2/13)* "Shawn woke up feeling a little under the weather this morning." The big boys fluctuate between loving each other and driving each other crazy. This was a moment in which they loved each other. It was so sweet.
*This is actually the second post of the month. The first post of the month has poor sound quality and was hard to hear. I opted for the cute pictures of love instead. :)
November: At This Rate (11/1/13) "He's going to have no teeth left!" Jason was on the fast track of tooth loss. He was losing teeth left and right it seemed. Shawn did his own fair share of tooth losing, too.
December: Pictures With People We Love (12/1/13) "I have lots of pictures of the boys (boy is that an understatement!), but one thing I need to do more of is to take pictures of the boys with the special people in their lives." Thanksgiving pictures of the boys with the people they love.
The boys have been blessed by having so many people who care about them. They are lucky guys, for sure! It's my job to make sure they have pictures of all of the people who love them!
2013 was such a great year for Team Lopez. (All except for the sickness, at least.)
I look forward to seeing what 2014 has in store for us--hopefully
it will be healthier and even better than 2013!
2012 Revisited
There were so many exciting things that happened in 2012! It was another really good year for Team Lopez. :-)
I did this meme last year, so I thought I'd try it again. The rules are to post the first sentence of the first blog post for every month of 2012. I added my comments about the post after. Here we go...
January - Wait a Minute! (1/2/12) "I think someone stole my winter break." Wow, this seems to be a common theme for me. Today, one year later, I am still scratching my head wondering where my break went! This year, however, I still have another week to enjoy playing with my boys.
This year we did much of the same things we did last year, which is fun. One thing I loved about this post is the line "We played outside and ran in fear from the ferocious squirrels in the backyard." While we haven't yet played outside this week as it's too cold, we wouldn't run from the squirrels anymore!
February - Mostly Wordless Wednesday - What the Puff? (2/1/12) "What is this crazy thing you're giving me now?" Oh, Jack was so little back then! This post was about Jack's introduction with what can only be called "baby crack." I don't know what they put into these things, but my boy loves them. Still. :-)
March - Blink (3/1/12) "Just blink and your baby will be four weeks away from his 1st birthday." Now here we are just three short months from Jack turning two. Blows. My. Mind.
It's shocking how fast time seems to move now. When I was younger, I always looked ahead for some thing or another. Time seemed to go excruciatingly slow in those days. Now I have these three little guys to raise and I am acutely aware of how much I want to teach them and it feels like there just isn't enough time. How can he be nearly 2? How can they be 5? It was just yesterday they were all born!
April - But Jason Will (4/1/12) "I wouldn't eat it...but Jason will. Strawberries in ketchup--his new favorite combination. Yuck." This one cracks me up because the boys are all notoriously picky eaters. In fact, Shawn is probably the one who would try something first. The other two? No way. Unless it is covered in ketchup that is. Or chocolate. :-) Hm. Maybe that is what I need to do to get them to eat their veggies!
May - Smack! (5/1/12) "No, not the kind you were thinking. This smack is the good kind. :-)" Oh to be back in the days of brotherly love. Lol. Let's just say that a nearly 2 year old with a stubborn streak and a 5 year old with too many toys all over the place does not equal a happy coexistence. Shawn on the other hand, tells Jack all the time what a cute little brother he is!
June - Just a Normal Everyday Kind of Scene (6/1/12) "Shawn was listening to this song as part of his reward for doing his exercises." Scenes like this play out at our house all the time. Sure there is a lot of crazy, but there is probably twice as much sweet that happens. That is why I love this blog. I love being able to capture the day to day lives we live. I hope when these boys are old and gray, they'll love having this reminder of what life was like way back when.
July - Notes to Self: My 3 Boys on July 1, 2012 (7/1/12) "The boys' personalities have just blossomed lately, and it has become clear that each boy has his own unique way of taking on the world." This post was written by Isaac and described Isaac's take on the boys' personalities. I think the descriptions still fit!
August - Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Cars Land (8/1/12) "Here we are in Cars Land during our trip to Disney! It was by far, their favorite place to be!" The big boys loved, loved, LOVED Disneyland. Seriously. They talked about going back every day for months. Now the talk has quieted to saying, "We've been to Cinderella's castle!" when they see it on the Disney channel. We can't wait to go back again and take Jack!
September - Cute Baby Saturday (9/1/12) "One of Jack's favorite activities is to climb all over (and tear up) his brothers' beds." Lol. Yep. Jack still loves to do this. :-) Only now, he gets to climb and roll all over new big boy TWIN beds!
OctoberA Year (10/2/12) "Last year, their little hands looked like this." I love these hand prints; I'd even say these prints are among my most favorite mementos from this time. The speed in which these boys are growing is obvious when you look at them, but there is something so tangible...so personal when you see the growth of their hands. Those tiny hands used to wrap around my fingers. Now, they nearly fill my own hand.
Seeing how much their hands are growing over time is an undeniable reality check that they are going to get big some day. And soon.
November - How Many? (11/1/12) "The pressing conversation this evening was, "How many licks 'till you get to the center of a Tootsie Pop." You know, 'cuz when we talk, we get deep. lol." Another snippet from our lives. Precious memories for sure!
December - New Tradition (12/1/12) "Today we started a new tradition, the Elf on a Shelf." Oh the elf...I think he was a huge hit this year. The boys looked forward to finding him each morning, and they total bought the idea that he works with Santa to determine if they were naughty or nice.
~~~

2012 was such a great year for Team Lopez.
I look forward to seeing what 2013 has in store for us--hopefully
it will be even better than 2012!

We hope you and yours have a wonderful 2013!

2011 Revisited

There were so many exciting things that happened in 2011! It was truly a pretty good year for Team Lopez. :-)

I thought I'd try this meme I saw on another blog. The rules are to post the first sentence of the first blog post for every month of 2011. Here we go...

January - The Wonder of Genetics (1/1/11) "I have always had a hard time telling people who the boys look like." Everyone has said that the boys look like there father. In this post I finally saw the connection between the big boys and my side of the family after I was given a picture of my dad as a toddler. The resemblance between him and Shawn is uncanny.

February - Jason's Day (2/3/11) "On this day, three years ago, my little Jason came home from the hospital after 99 days in the NICU." In this post, the only one for February it seems, I focus on Jason's Homecoming Day. I love celebrating the days we got to bring the big boys home from the hospital. I especially love the fact that the each get to have their own special day to celebrate, as they are sort of forced to do everything else together.

March - 38 Weeks - The Home Stretch (3/26/11) "How many weeks? Guess who’s 38 weeks along? Me! Can you believe it?!?" I guess I wasn't really all that big considering I was carrying a 10 pound baby in that belly! lol. In this post, I was just a few short days away from delivering Mr. Tank. There was no way we could have known how amazing he is.

April - Cruising Along (4/1/11) "Isn't he handsome?" Why yes, yes he is! In this post, I get to share the one of the newborn pictures the photographer took at the hospital. We were getting close to being discharged (and were the next day).

May -  Easter 2011 (5/2/11) "Easter 2011 The Easter bunny dropped a few goodies off for the boys." In this post we highlight some of the fun from Easter and even get to show off our first family photo as a group of five!

June - Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Who Needs a Gardener (6/1/11) "Who needs a gardener to mow your lawn when you can have these?" All a family needs is a dump truck and a kid for their lawn mowing needs. This post was at the beginning of the 30 day challenge I started. Who'd have believed back then that I'd still be posting daily?

July - Love Fest (7/1/11) "'Nuff said. :-)" This is a picture post...and really, the title does say it all.

August - Had To... (8/1/11) "Buy it." A picture of a toy I found that I just had to buy for Jackson. It's the Lil' Jack Teether. See? I really did have to buy it!

September - Oh My Heart (9/1/11) "Oh how my boys make my heart happy!" One of my favorite pictures of our three boys together. I can't help but to smile when I see it.

October - Cute Baby Saturday (10/1/11) There is no text for this one, just a picture of Jack showing off a few of his favorite things: his feet and his tongue!

November - Marshmallow (11/1/11) "There is nothing like the mind of a toddler." Boy isn't that line the truth. It is funny that this one makes the chart because after a particularly tough day at casa Lopez, I cheated and posted a YouTube video of the Marshmallow Experiment. I think this is one of the only posts not centering on our three guys!

December - Our Life By the Numbers - the Getting Ready for Christmas Edition (12/1/11) "24 - days until Christmas" This is one of my crazy number lists from the year. Maybe I missed my calling as a math teacher? Lol.

It has been fun looking back on our year. Perhaps I should make this "Year Revisited" post a Team Lopez tradition!

We hope you and yours have a wonderful 2012!
