Life with Jack

Scene:

Jack was outside playing by himself. I watched him drag all of the outside chairs over so they faced the trampoline. He placed a ball on the seat of every single chair. He fussed and organized things for a few minutes before he flew to the door and came charging inside.

"I've got to get my tie!" he breathed as he passed.

Sure enough, the boy returned with a tie clipped to his shirt. Then he went outside and put on a "show" for his audience of balls by jumping on the trampoline. It was quite a sight, too!

He is SUCH a character!

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

Dad (pointing to the digital clock): "What does the clock say?"

Jack (after thinking for a second and then cocking his head): "Tick Tock."

Smart aleck.

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

After accidentally kneeing his father in the crotch, Jack told him, "Sorry dad. I didn't mean to hit you in the jiglets."

He was trying for "giblets" I think, but it made me laugh anyway. LOL

"Ffff - F for 'five,' and Www - W for 'one hundred.'"

Now you know. It's hard to argue with that logic. :)

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

Jason's new Harry Potter book came today, so I set it on the end table for him to discover. Jack found it first. He grabbed the book with both hands, held it out, and exclaimed, "How am I ever going to read this?!" over and over again. His tone was classically dramatic, too. Made me laugh out loud!

Teaching Manners

Jack has been watching an animated cartoon video about a boy and his pet Alligator, Al. The boy must teach Al manners, so that the boy can keep him as a pet. During the videos the viewer is asked to help teach his alligator manners by picking the right way for the alligator to behave. Each time the boy asks, "Can you please teach my alligator manners?"

Well, for some reason, Jack has recently changed the phrase. When the boy from the video asks about teaching his alligator manners, Jack changes it up and says, "Can you please teach my Jay manners?"

We're not exactly sure why, but it cracks us up.  Not surprisingly, Jason finds it a little rude. LOL

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

I came home early to get ready for the big boys' eye appointment. Isaac was rinsing his hands at the kitchen sink. Jack was sitting at the table, eating, when I walked in...

Me: "What are you doing, Jack?"

Him: "I'm eating lunch..."

Him (in a somewhat disgusted tone): "Like a DOG."

Me: "Ok then. Have fun."

Lol!

More Kid Logic

"Mom, I think I know why it takes so long to have a birthday."

Me: Really? Why is that?

"It's cuz you can't eat cake and ice cream every day. You need to space it out."

~~~
The treat bags went over very well. Jason was especially tickled to get a thank you hug from his number one fan. lol
Say What?
Oh these boys are always at it ...
J: Mom, I like the National Album.
Me: It's the "National Anthem" not "Album."
J: Yeah, I like that one, too.
J (a few seconds later): Especially if it's country.
~~~

Me: Shawn, let's go do your homework now.
S: Wait just a minute, momma. I'm talkin' to Jason.
Me: Let's go, Shawn.
S: Mom. I'm almost finished.
S: Jason, whatcha' doing?

Me: Sigh.

~~~
J: Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb. Mary had a little lamb, its face was white as snow...
~~~

Jack (while standing outside yesterday morning): Bye, bye black ducks!
Me: Uh, Jack, those are crows!

Conversations With a 5 Year Old

Background: To understand this conversation, you'll need to know four things. 1) Yesterday, Isaac put two jellybeans into Jason's snack bag. He told Jay he added them because he was good the night before. 2) The boys are sick AGAIN. 3) This round of crud started with Jason over the weekend. and 4) Layla is Jason's number one "fan."

Isaac: Is anyone else at school sick, Jason?
J: No.
Isaac: Didn't you say that Layla has a bad cough?
J: Yes, but she isn't sick.
Isaac: She's not? Well then, how do you think you got sick?
J: It was the jellybeans you gave me. They're not healthy. They made me sick.
Isaac: ... (sigh)

Got to love kid logic.

Conversations With a Nearly 6 Year Old

"Mom. I picked a dandelion and gave it to Layla today."

Me: You did? Then what happened?

"She said, 'Thank you,' and smiled. I'm pretty sweet, huh?"

Me: Yes, Jay, you are.

I think I now understand why Layla is his number one fan. Apparently my boy is already a lady's man.

That also explains why his teacher pointed out to Isaac that there was some Kinder love going on. Jeez. I am not ready for that at all!

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

"Vaaaaaaarrrrrrroooooooooommmmmmmm"

Daddy: Tell mom what you're doing, Jay.

Me: What are you doing?

Jay: The Doppler effect.

Me: Um...okay then. Carry on.

"Vaaaaaaarrrrrrroooooooooommmmmmmm"

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

Tomorrow is picture day at school, so I did a little hair trimming on the boys' do's. They are quite excited, and we ended up do a lot of talking about hair and looking good.

Tonight while talking to daddy:

Jay: Shawn has brown hair and daddy has brown hair and Jack has brown hair and I have brown hair.

Isaac: What color hair does mommy have?

Shawn: She has brown hair, too.

Isaac: And what color hair does your teacher have?

Jay (said in a dreamy voice after thinking for a moment): Goooolllllden.

Here I had blond hair for years, and never once did they describe my hair as golden. lol. The teacher love affair has begun.

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

Mom, my skin is dry. I need some lotion. Stat!

Stat?

(while looking at me like I am an idiot) Yes. Stat. It means "really fast," mom. I thought you'd know that.

**Can you believe this kid? Jeez.

~~~
Both boys went to school today, and both stayed the entire day without issue. Yea!
Jack still sick, but he's sleeping better, which in turn will mean that we sleep better. Double yea!
Conversations With 5 Year Olds
J: Mom, what's wrong with Jack?
Me: He's doesn't feel well.
J: (with a knowing head shake) Did Shawn give Jack his germs?
Me: No, Jay. I think you gave Shawn and Jack your germs.
J: Hm. That wasn't nice of me...but you said you like me to share.
~~~

The sick is still torturing us. Shawn went to school today, but he told them he didn't feel well about 2/3 of the way through the class. They called us to come pick him up. When Isaac got there, he found a kid that was happy as a clam...and just fine. Sigh. Barring some new development, Shawn's going back to school tomorrow.

Fingers crossed that Jason has turned the corner. He's still congested, but the fever is gone. He's quite concerned that the class will get to the 100th paper clip on the calendar while he's out, and he will miss what has been dubbed to be the kindergarten 100th day party of the century.

Jack is snotty, feverish, and just plain miserable.

Fun times all around.

We're Home!

And we're exhausted!

I think the time it took for the boys to fall asleep tonight was a record. Not even 5 minutes after their heads hit their pillows, they were all out. If I didn't know it already, that right there would have told me the boys have a fabulous time at Disneyland. :)

"Mom, I love Disneyland. I want to stay here forever! Can we? Please?"

I so wanted to say, "Yes!"

Hey, Mom!

I have a one track mind. Get it?

Ba dum dum!

~~~
Jason's favorite thing from the day was building his terrarium in his new IPad game.
Shawn's favorite thing from the day was playing a word game with mommy.
