Not Exactly the Way We Imagined It

Today was the boys' 100th day of the school. They didn't have anything special going on, thankfully, but it was noted in class today.

Nevertheless, Jason took it upon himself to do a project anyway, although I did tell him that doing something special wasn't necessary. He scoffed at that, of course, and came up with 100 hives all over his body as his contribution. Our boy is an overachiever it seems.

From what I can tell, I think this is from the color drops I put in his bath water last night. He wanted orange water, so I ended up putting in two different tablets to achieve the desired effect. Sigh. It looks like that we will have to say goodbye to the cool color drops...even I have hives today, and I didn't sit in the water. Bummer.

Anyway, Jason is on the mend, if not a tiny bit itchy. He's being lathered in creme and taking Benadryl to help him feel better. I did tell him to ease up on the overachieving next time, though. ;)

Homework

Second grade homework may push me...um, them...over the edge.

And it's only day 2!

Each night they have a math worksheet, work to do with their 20 spelling words (alphabetizing the words and writing them 3xs each so far), timed reading, social studies (interviewing an ancestor--we're calling you tomorrow grandma), and work on memorizing a poem. Sheesh.

Hopefully we'll get into the swing of things, so it won't seem so overwhelming sooner rather than later.

You Just Have to Laugh

Remember our picture day escapades? The ones in which attempt number one was a flop and day two, while successful in that pictures were actually taken, was not a whole lot better?

Well, we got the pictures today. I was so excited to see them; I could barely contain myself.

I rushed home after work, pulled out the pictures and saw Shawn.

He's got that side eyed look of someone not too sure of who he's looking at. His right eyebrow is slightly raised as if to punctuate the whole "Who the heck are you?" question. I don't know. Maybe the question is "What am I doing here?" Either way, he looks a tad bit confused about the whole thing. While my original assessment was that it wasn't the best picture of Shawn (by any stretch of the word), it was at least understandable once you consider the story behind it.

I chuckled to myself as I put his packet aside and pulled out Jason's packet.

I was rewarded with this gem. I laughed out loud again because, well, look at it.

The poor guy--his look is a cross between a half attempt at a nervous smile and the terrified, wide-eyed look of a guy with a demented creature knocking at his door. Jason's own words were, "What's wrong with me?" I told him I didn't know. We spent the next five minutes trying to get him to mimic that lip curl he's got going there. Of course HE COULDN'T DO IT!

Sigh. These kids of mine are quite the pair.

I'm torn on whether I should tempt fate for a third time (although it is supposed to be a charm) and try to get a better shot of each or just call it a day and go with these.

What do you think? ;-)

Of Course.

It was picture day at school today! I went online and ordered pictures last night. I printed out the little confirmation code and put it in the boys' backpacks. We were all set.

The boys were looking pretty fine when they walked into their school today, too. Jason was wearing a new school shirt. Shawn was in my favorite shirt of his. We had high hopes for some pretty awesome results.

And then?

Then the pictures did not happen.

After what could only be described as millions of pictures taken of him thus far, Jason took one look at the camera and high tailed it out that place. He said it scared him.

Seriously?

Apparently the flash was too scary.

The flash that he's seen every single day since birth is too scary.

Sigh.

No problem.

The good thing about twins is that you have another child to try things with if something goes astray the first time. Jason may not have liked the camera, but we had another opportunity with Shawn.

Shawn, on the other hand, was ready, eager, and WILLING to smile for the camera. Guys, we couldn't have written it better. Our wild card child was totally buying the whole picture day thing. Woohooo!

So there he is on his chair, ready to go, only to have the camera...get this...MALFUCTION and break while he was SITTING there.

Of course it did.

I mean really. I swear I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

I am taking this as a sign from the universe that I didn't pick the right clothes for them today. Ahem. One more try tomorrow.

The photographers know the boys will be back first thing tomorrow morning. I've bribed the scaredy cat with a prize if he faces his fear. I've tried talking it up to the ham about how lucky he is to get to take pictures again! They've both picked out clothes they want to wear tomorrow. (Sniff, sniff. I really did like those shirts they were wearing today.)

Now I just have to sit back and hope it actually happens. lol
