How Many Bucks Are You?

It is hilarious to watch the boys master various idioms we throw their way. A recent idiom we discussed was "feeling like a hundred (or million) bucks."

This week both Jason and I have been fighting colds. We both even stayed home from work/school on Monday. Tuesday morning we had this conversation:

J: Mom, how many bucks are you feeling today?

It took me a second, but I finally figured out what he meant...

Me: Oh, I don't know. How many bucks are you feeling?

J: Not too good. I'm only 99 bucks. I lost a whole buck.

Me: Uh oh. That's not good. Are you going to be okay for school?

J: Yeah. I'll be okay. So how many bucks do you have?

M: Well, I guess I'm about 75 bucks.

J: Whoa. You're missing a whole lot of bucks, mommy. You must not feel good at all!

Throwback Thursday

This one goes back to July 2009, when the boys were 18 months adjusted...

Three thoughts:

1) So it seems the boys have been talking my ears off for years now. No wonder I'm crazy!
2) It's funny to see how their personalities were shining clear even way back then. Love it!
3) Also, I always forget just how blonde Jason was back in the early days!

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - What Is It?

So what is it?

Well, that is a carport of course. The man on top of the carport is a statue (a la the Statue of Liberty).

Did you guess?

These sorts of things are popping up all over the living room lately. Frankly, I think I like carports a whole lot better than long lines of cars in parking lots.

The next one is easy. What is it?

Obviously it is a bedroom scene, complete with a bed, dressers, and an alarm clock. LOL.

Imaginative play at its best!

Tuesday Cuteness

Random shots of the littlest today...

He's not so little any more.

Can you believe he's only 2 months away from turning 3? Mind blowing!

Monday Moment

Someone got a hold of his brother's headphones.

How'd these things get on my head?
I have no idea what happened!

Rocking out to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
(As an aside, this is the new "cheese!' face. lol)

There is nothing quite like getting to do something
that you KNOW you're not supposed to do. Pure bliss!

Master Manipulator

The littlest keeps us on our toes. Take tonight, for instance. About an hour after he went to bed, we heard a really strange coughing fit from his room. Instantly, our thoughts went to the poor guy possibly contracting whatever crud has invaded the big people around here, so we went running.

But no, he isn't sick. He just knew the best way to get us to come fast. Play sick.

Boy, you got to knock that nonsense off...and no, saying, "I so sorry." when we get there doesn't help.

Shawn's Day

6 years ago today, after 90 days in the NICU, we got to bring our Shawn home.

He got to blow out a candle after we sang
"Happy Homecoming Day to you!"

He got to open a few presents, too!

He got a download card for his LeapPad and
a police man toy.

We enjoyed red velvet cake cupcakes.

Shawn started out with his fork...always the gentleman.

Then he decided his hands were faster.

Happy Homecoming Day, Shawn! Hope you had a great day!

Conversations With 6 Year Olds

Joke, as told by Shawn this evening:

S: Knock, knock.

Me: Who's there?

S: Boo who

Me: Boo who, who?

S: Mom, it's just a joke. You don't have to cry about it!

Rise and Shine

I have the most fun waking the boys up in the morning. No, it isn't because I love to stare at their sweet faces as they wake. That is sweet and all, but truthfully, I like another part of the experience much better.

My favorite part is hearing the off the wall things they say when they are under that half-asleep/half-awake first thing in the morning haze.

Today's gem: Jason opened his eyes when I called his name this morning. He blinked at me and said, "Mom! Why are you mining for gold in my bedroom?"

"Where did you put it?" he asked.

"What, Jay?"

"The hole. Where'd you put the hole?" He then proceeded to look over the edge of his bed as if he was SURE there would be a gaping earthen pit in front of him. I'm pretty sure he was disappointed when he only found floor instead.

LOL, These kids crack me up!

Kidbits: Our Life in a Series of Face Book Updates... Part 25

January 21, 2014

Just had to institute the "no erasing" rule or we'd sit here doing homework forever. It seems the apples don't fall far from the trees...

January 6

This is what I've been saying for years now!

December 31, 2013
The boys' LeapPad Ultras have limited internet access, much (all?) of which is YouTube like videos. They love this feature! Right now, they are watching a video of a little girl explaining how to make strawberry shortcake. Too funny.

~~~
December 29
You know what I didn't want to hear just now? I didn't want to hear Jason say, "Mom, my tummy feels a little funny."
Sigh.
December 27
Santa brought Jason a Hot wheels car maker. I think he's in his version of heaven right now while he and Isaac make cars. Too funny!
~~~

December 26

Okay look, little boy. When I yell your name and you reply, "What are you do-wang?" You KNOW you are being naughty. Then when I tell you to stop and you say, "Ok I keep it," it does not help things. No, you can't "keep doing it" either. So stop already.

and

Jack throws toys over the baby gate (that blocks the kitchen) when he gets angry at them. I swear it is his version of banishing things to the cornfield. Toys, beware. Do not make him angry... LOL

~~~
December 25
Poor Shawn has had better days. I thought he was perking up midday, but he went back to vomiting and being just pitiful looking since then.
Jack manage to escape the house and run across the street before I found him. I think I lost 5 years during those moments. And thanks to mom's neighbor who found him.
Jason is having a pretty great day. He's watching Turbo for the first time!
and...
Jack and Jason are having a fabulous Christmas so far! Poor Shawn is not feeling good and is sleeping. He hasn't had the energy to even unwrap his gifts. Hoping he perks up very soon.
~~~

December 24

Last night Jack was making this horrible hacking sound in his bed. I ran in there thinking he must be choking on something. He laughed and laughed when he saw me. "Don't worry. I okay!"

~~~
December 22
The littlest just spent the last ten minutes repeatedly taking me away from the living room to another part of the house. He'd get so angry each time I'd come back to the living room and would immediately take me out again. All because he wanted to get to a candle and he knew I wouldn't let him get it if I was in the room! The little turkey!!!
~~~

December 21

Jack just brought me a piece of trash, said, "Here you go, miss," and went on his way.

Um...?

~~~
December 17
My mission this vacation is start potty training the littlest. He shocked me this evening by going in and sitting on the potty all by himself. Granted, he was fully clothed, but I was still impressed. I just about fell over when I stripped him and sat him back down. He actually went! Please, oh please, let this mean I will not be banging my head against the wall over the next few weeks.
***edited to add: The potty training was a bust. We all got sick. :(
~~~

December 16

Three coughing, runny nosed boys are in the house. Sigh. At least we should be healed by Christmas.

and...

Jason's opening line this morning: "Mom, imagine if I had a thousand gold teeth. Now that would be something!"

~~~
December 12
Not to be outdone, Shawn just killed sounding out "at" words in the *Nat at Bat" book!
and...
Mind Blown. Jay just read the book *Little Blue Truck* with very little help from me. (I helped with words like "neigh" and "couldn't".) The AR level is 1.5!
Way to go, Jay!!!
~~~

December 8

Him: So does Santa bring you and daddy a present?

Me: He usually brings presents to kids.

Him: But you said he brings presents to people who believe in him. Don't you believe in Santa?!

Me: Um, well...I did say that. Yes, I believe in Santa.

Him: Good. I wonder what Santa's going to bring you?

Me: Sigh. I really have no idea.

~~~
December 6
My boys know all the words to the National Anthem but not a single Christmas song. I must remedy this issue at once!
~~~

December 4

Little one has melted because Isaac went to the store. Trying not to take it personally, but the continually wailed, "I want daddy!" is a little much. Just saying.

~~~
November 24
So...you know your kids have seen Monsters, Inc a few too many times when they throw a dirty sock on you when you walk into a room, and they run around talking about a "2319!"
(A kid's sock on one of the monsters led to the CDA-child detection agency-having to come and destroy the "contamination.")
~~~

November 18

Jack just blew my mind when he finished singing "Royals" after the big boys stopped singing mid song. Lol.

~~~
November 11
Got a nice, solid head butt to the nose yesterday. It is slightly swollen still today. Ouch. Man, it's sore!
Just another entry in the "My kids are trying to kill me" scrapbook. Sigh.
~~~

November 9

Jack tripped over his own feet when he was leaving his room first thing this morning. He still has a mean lump right between his eyes. Poor guy.

~~~
November 1
Parenting fail: Jason's new shoes are 1.5 sizes larger than the ones he was wearing. No wonder he complained they were tight! Poor guy!
and...
Out came tooth #6!!!
~~~

October 19

Poor Shawn. He's feeling so yucky right now, but he's still trying to convince me he feels better. May be a long night if this is any indication.

~~~
October 17
You know, if I'd have been smart, I'd have taken out stock on Advil or Dimetapp before school started. At least then I would be getting something back for all of the money we're spending on medicine this year. Jeez.
~~~

October 16

The boys were asleep approximately 2 seconds after their heads hit their pillows. We have the joy of yet another round of the Sick. I guess the consolation is that this one is fast moving.

~~~
October 11
Apparently we have a case of Kinder love. She likes him. A lot. Worse, I think the boy knows (and enjoys) it. Sigh.
I am not ready for this at all! He's not even 6!
~~~

October 9

Whew. I almost forgot the Tooth Fairy was coming tonight. That would have been a disaster!

~~~
October 3
Called to check on the boys and ask how school went. Shawn said it went well. Jason said he played with Layla at recess. "She's my number one fan!"
Lol
~~~

September 28

We discussed talents this morning. Shawn said his talent was cleaning up his cars. They decided Jack's talent was knocking things down. Jason's talent was building big sky scrapers with his blocks.

"I've got another talent, momma. Want to know what it is?"

Sure, Jay. What is it?

"I'm great at picking my nose!"

So there you have it.

~~~
September 26
Shawn lost his second tooth today!
And by lost, I mean it's really lost. We have no idea where it is! He went to school with it, but came home from school without it. Lol.
~~~

September 25

And on the Tooth Fairy note, Jason has 4 - yes FOUR - loose teeth. That will make 8 teeth for him. Shawn is still working on losing his second tooth. I think Shawn's will come out over the weekend.

Time to stock up on gold coins!

~~~
September 17
The boys missed school yesterday, so they did not get this week's homework packet. They did not get the packet today. Their teacher will be out tomorrow, so they likely won't get it tomorrow either. Surely their teacher won't be so cruel to send home the weekly homework packet on Thursday when it's due on Friday.
I have to admit that this lucky break makes me wildly happy. Ahem.
and...
Dang. Got homework packets today. Bummer.
