Recognition

Tomorrow is a big day around these parts. It's the AR assembly. Two of our guys will receive trophies at the assembly--so exciting! While our third guy didn't earn a trophy this year, he did an amazing job in his reading, too. We're proud of all of our crew!

It's so cool for this mama to have readers in the house! ❤️

Throwback Tuesday

It's been a day...which makes it a Throwback kind of day. :)

One of my favorites from September 2011...

Sunny Day

Shawn has a song he sings as we ride around the neighborhood:

🎵 "Bike ride today. Sunny day. We're bike riding today." ðŸŽµ

It's really pretty cute. lol.

Our adventure today was not without some hiccups, though. First, some kid walking on the sidewalk put a Jedi mind trick on Jack and caused him to crash into a fence. (He was fine, thankfully. He did crash pretty hard.)

Then later, Jay almost got run over by a car backing out of their driveway. The driver, who happened to be my old high school principal!, never saw him because her view was blocked by another car in her driveway. At the same time, Isaac and Jason were racing to the fire hydrant on corner of the street...right on the other side of her driveway. Isaac used his amazing reflexes and stopped Jay just in time, but both Jason and the driver got quite a scare. Jason even told me he saw his life flash before his eyes. lol. In the end, this experience has made Jay listen just a little bit harder when we tell him to be careful and watch for cars backing out of their driveways.

Shawn, however, had a pleasant stroll around the 'hood and can't wait till we get out again next weekend. ;)

Summer Bucket List 2019

This weekend it occurred to us that we have yet to think about our Summer Bucket list. We're getting down to the last of the school year -- only 14 days left for the boys and 19 days left for me - so, clearly, our time to compose our list is running out.

When asked what we should add to the list, the boys could think of only a few things off the top of their heads. I'm sure they'll be adding more over the next few days. :)

Shawn:

  • go bike riding
  • look for a haunted mansion
  • go swimming in our pool
  • go to the park
  • go to Target
Jason:
  • go to the Moxie Museum
  • have a "Yes" day (a day when all they get are "yeses")
  • go to Universal Studios
  • maybe go to Discovery Cube
Jack:
  • swim in our pool
  • play in our pool
  • race in the pool (I'm sensing a theme...)
  • go to the beach and play in the water
  • build a sandcastle
  • grow tall and go on all of the rides at an amusement park

Riding Around the Neighborhood

We finally got out for our ride. We rode around the neighborhood and to the park. They had a blast!

This face says it ALL! ❤️

Friday Five

Yesterday's Fun Run at school went well. We were a tiny bit disappointed that the "track" was on the grass, which makes using the walker not very fun, but the boys pushed through anyway. Jack swears he ran "all the laps and won the race!" lol. Jason, who wasn't feeling his best that morning, ran 20 laps before he took a break (because I told him he needs to not over do it). Shawn did 10 laps, too. (Shawn's paraprofessional helped out and 'ran' 13 more laps for him. lol)

So proud of our guys. Mom and dad pledged $0.50 a lap, so it looks like we are donating about $35 to the school now. Yay? ðŸ¤£

~~~
School countdown...14 days for the boys! Woohoo!
~~~

The school is no longer letting the kids take AR tests, and I have to tell you. I think Jack may be going through withdrawals. LOL.

I'm so proud of the entire crew. All three of them beat their personal bests for reading this year and all seem to really enjoy stories. Can't ask for any more than that.

~~~
I think I found our first caterpillar in the J formation. Hopefully he'll be in a chrysalis next time we go outside!
~~~

It's time for us to start thinking about our Summer Bucket List 2019! We haven't really had much time to talk about the possibilities, so I'm excited to hear what the crew might want to do this summer. :)

Conversations With 11 Year Olds

“Dad, yo quiero ‘werewolves’ de chocolate.”

 He meant “huevos de chocolate” or “chocolate eggs.” Something was lost in the translation there. 🤣😂

Counting Down the Days

We have reached the dreaded "between" days. The long days that are between the active school year and summer. These days are simultaneously the longest of the school year and speeding by in a blink. We can hardly wait for summer to begin, and yet we're worried about the end of elementary school and the jump to junior high.

This week will bring the school Fun Run fundraiser. The crew is excited for the novelty of a morning full of running the track at school. LOL. We shall see how it goes. At the very least, I suspect we may have an early bed time that night. ;)

Nope

No, I didn't stop to ask him what he was doing. lol

Some things are better left unknown.

Cute Big Boy Saturday

He asked to eat outside today. He grabbed his food and went out. When I checked on him a bit later, he was like this. LOL

Friday Five

We're heading down the home stretch toward the end of the school year. The boys have 19 days left. I have 24 days left. We can't wait until summer!

~~~
But, with the big change of moving to junior high school next year, we do have a few boys on our hands who are starting to feel a bit apprehensive about everything. We know they are going to have so much fun in this next stage of school, but we can completely understand how scary something new and unknown is.
~~~

The big boys are going to turn in their school issued iPads on Monday! Yikes! Jack will hold on to his until the 30th.

~~~
Jack got a certificate today!
~~~

It's been pretty windy the last few days. Shawn was disappointed that we couldn't ride bikes today after school. It seems like every time we are about to head out for a ride, the weather changes. lol. Fingers crossed we can make it out this weekend.

Dino Invasion

Jack's teacher sent parents this picture earlier today. Looks like their class is experiencing a dinosaur invasion! I just think they're too cute. All the dinosaurs are due tomorrow. Can't wait to see all of the fun projects the kids turn in. :)

Even Bigger

We checked on our caterpillars again this last weekend. They're getting bigger. Soon they'll be ready to make their chrysalises. :)

Question of the Week

Question: What do you know enough about that you could teach others?

Jason: Basic and medium math problems. I teach the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I teach the basics of exponents. Yeah, that is pretty much it.

Shawn: Um...cars. I know you race them after you put them on the track. I know all the different kinds of Cars characters. I think you would like Jack DePost the best.

Jason: I could teach about regular cars, too.

Jack: I could teach you about being tall and being on a roller coaster. I could teach you how to play Planet Pilkey, too.
