Friday Five

This has been a week. Oh boy. Let's see...

Monday, Jason came home from school with a headache. I knew it was likely that Jason had a sinus infection, so I took him to the pediatrician. We left with several prescriptions, including an antibiotic, so I thought we were on our way to recovery.

At three thirty in the morning, Jason woke us up to tell us he was itchy. Sigh.

The next morning after two doses of Benadryl.
No simple fixes for us! lol. The rash has now faded, but the infection/sinus headaches remain. It looks like we may need to head back to the pediatrician very soon. :( Poor guy!

~~~
Tuesday brought us a very sick and sad little Jack. We are only starting to see the glimpses of the old Jack today.
The boy knows how to rock the bed head, I tell you!
~~~

Shawn is now starting to show signs of congestion. We all know what that will mean...you'll probably find me screaming and rocking in a corner in the not too distant future if this keeps up much longer.

Are school germs some sort of crazy chemical warfare? I can think of no other reason why they are so potent and abundant!

~~~
As of right now, the boys' heights are:
Jason - 50 5/8"
Shawn - 48" (could be slightly taller but didn't feel like measuring him again)
Jack - 43 5/8"
We grow 'em big!
~~~

This next week is spirit week/Dr. Seuss week at the boys' school. It should make things interesting! Friday is Dr. Seuss t-shirt day. I so wish I had Thing 1 and Thing 2 shirts for the boys to wear!

Ultimate Bed Head

Not feeling good, not wanting to get out of bed, and having to take brothers to school only leads to ...

Ultimate bed head and a kid who could care less.

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

Me: "I like this song!"

Him: "Is that Spanish in the song?"

Me: "Yep. She says, 'Baile en la calle' which means 'dance in the street.'"

He was quiet for a few seconds...

Him: "I'm guessing that they've closed the street down then."

lol.

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

"Mom, how much money is there in the United States?" he asked.

"Uh, I have no idea. Do you want me to look it up?" He nodded, so I looked.

"It says 1.2 trillion US dollars are in circulation. There more than 300,000,000 people in the US. It works out that there should be $3800 for each person." I shared.

"Hmph. Where is my $3800 then?"

lol. I think that's a question we all have, buddy. :)

Friday Five

This week brought more one hundred percents on the big boys' spelling tests. Yay, boys!

~~~
This week also brought back silent reading as part of the big boys' homework. The boys are required to read for ten minutes, and then I am supposed to read to them for ten minutes a night.
Generally, I don't time the boys reading. Instead, what I do is have them read a book from our home library. (If the book is a challenge book, I usually stop them after ten to fifteen pages.) Once they've each read their own book, I get them together so I can read them a chapter of one of their Weird School books they got for Christmas.
All was going well enough until Thursday, when we were unable to do our reading due to time constraints. I tried to flub through it and just sign away that we did the reading, but the boys would have none of that. Sigh. Instead, I had to write a note to their teacher explaining that we promised to read Friday to make up for today. (And oopsie, guess who didn't read today, either! Jeez. Great example I'm setting here. lol)
~~~

It looks as if we have another round of germs to get through. Jason is once again sick with an increasingly junky cough. Sigh.

~~~
Tonight, Jack asked to go to grandma's house when I put him in timeout. Totally cracked me up that we have entered the stage where he is strategizing his escape. Smooth move trying to get grandma to help you out, too, kiddo. :)
"I want to FLLLLLYYYYYYY!"
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
Him: "Mom, am I romantic?"
Me: "Um, no. You can't be romantic until you're in junior high, and then you'll need to get all your romantic ideas approved by me beofre you can use them. Deal?"
Him: "Deal."
Him: "Can you kiss in junior high?"
Me: "No. Definitely no kissing at school no matter what grade you're in."
Him: "Got it."
It's too early for these types of conversations!!!!
Conversations With 7 Year Olds - Valentine's Edition
I asked the boys a few questions about Valentine related topics. Their answers made me laugh...
1) Who is Cupid?
~~Jason: A baby with a bow and arrows who makes people fall in love.
2) How?
~~Jason: He uses his bow and arrows. I don't know what it does. I think it might hit them in the head.
3) What is love?
~~Shawn: Mommy and kisses and hugs.
~~Jason: Love is when somebody likes somebody else. They kiss or hug. You can't kiss is school.
4) What is your favorite thing about Valentine's Day?
~~Jason: All the stuffed toys and chocolate coins we get.
~~Shawn: I like the coins, too.
5) What is marriage?
~~Jason: When somebody gets married it means that you fall in love and then get married.
6) What is the best thing about getting married?
~~Jason: Wearing a ring and a tuxedo!
~~Shawn: All the holidays.
Happy Valentine's Day!
This morning, the boys woke up to find their Valentine's Day gifts. Each got a beanie baby and some chocolate coins.
I'm not sure how well Jack liked his baby, though. At quiet time, when I gave him his dog and suggested he sleep with it, Jack chucked the poor thing across the room. Sigh. Shawn took his monkey to bed with him finally. At least Jason was appreciative. :)
We lounged around the house until after quiet time and then went to grandma's to give her the gifts they made.
Jason's on the left, Jack's in the middle, and Shawn's on the right.
They made paintings for her. I am so pleased with how they came out! I may even have to get them to paint me some, too.
They also gave each other some lovin' - a group kiss. It doesn't get much better than that!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Friday Five
Today we crafted. The boys all painted and created Valentine's Day cards.
And it went well!
While it may seem that this shouldn't shock me with all of the crafting I've done with the boys over the years, I will admit that there used to be a time (until not too long ago actually) when I would have to psych myself up before I attempted it. We were always well intentioned, but of course things would never go as ... we'll say smoothly as ... I hoped. Ahem.
Thankfully, if today is any indication, I think the days of me being drenched in sweat at the end of our crafting sessions may be over. lol
~~~

Jack blew me away while we were making our cards because he wrote all of the letters I told him by himself! I did tell him where to put each letter, but still. Pretty awesome!

~~~
This week also brought with it more 100% spelling tests for both the boys. I am so proud of how hard they are working in school this year!
We actually have all of the boys' spelling word lists hanging on our dining room wall. Shawn reads every word at least once a day; most often he reads the words every time he sits down at the table--not because we tell him to, either. He likes to read them and does so on his own!
Who needs expensive artwork with decoration options like this?
We are only half way through the school year, and I am rapidly running out of room on the wall. Clearly it is time for us to move to a bigger house so all of the words fit...
~~~

I am also beyond proud of Jason's performance on his ST.AR testing. This testing measures a student's reading level so he can participate in the Acc.elerated Re.ading program.

Jason did extremely well! His reading level was at a third grade, seventh month level! That's not too shabby for a first grader! :)

~~~
Jack's love affair with You Tube continues. He has now discovered the Three Little Pigs Geico commercial.
He also now breaks out with "Wee Weee Weeee!" random times throughout the day. Sigh.
Getting Big!
Today Shawn had a well child check-up.
Isn't he a cutie patootie?!
Like usual, he charmed his way through the office, chatting up all the nurses and support staff. He even scored himself a free book! lol. That's our guy.
He weighs 47.9 pounds (26th percentile) and is 48.5 inches tall (47th percentile). In other words, he's still hitting his growth curve expectations. Yea!
I can't believe my baby is 4+ feet tall now. Blows my mind. :)
A New Version of Abe?
It's zombie Abe Lincoln...
Because why not?
Although this kind of thing does make me wonder a bit about what exactly they're learning about President's Day. Lol
Our Little Mad Scientist
He's been bringing us the science kit for a few days now. Today, he finally got the chance to play...
He set everything up himself and even got his goggles on before he started!
Maybe next time we'll let him actually do some experiments! Although with his track record of putting everything into his mouth (especially when he knows he shouldn't), I can't guarantee it. lol
It's Jason's Day!
7 years ago on Thursday, after 100 days in the NICU, we got to bring our Jason home. I gave him the choice of celebrating his day on the 4th, his actual Homecoming Day, or today. He chose today so he would get the full benefit of his day. I'm fairly certain he got his money's worth by waiting. :)
Jason took full advantage of his day. He chose a breakfast of pancakes with whipped crème and chocolate chips.
It was raining out today, so like his brother, Jason chose to hang out around the house.
He picked his favorite movie, the Lego Movie, to watch and controlled the television all day long.
We played a LOT of Draw Something (and the iPad) today, too.
It was no surprise when he wanted to have pizza for dinner. Our boy is a huge fan of pizza!
Then after he blew out his candles and ate his cake, he played cars with his daddy.
 Happy Homecoming Day, Jason! Hope you had a great day!
