Friday Five

Jason went on a field trip today to Cal Lutheran University. He had a great time touring the school and  making a rocket and a flashlight in their science wing.

~~~
Speaking of Jason, he's trying to get sick, even though we keep telling him that he isn't allowed. I don't think he's listening...such a pre-teen!
~~~

Shawn was playing his keyboard this morning. It has been weeks since he's last played, yet, he was quickly able to pick out the tunes he's learned. It's so cool to me that he loves music so. :)

~~~
Jack has been pestering me for a new language learning app on his iPad. He thinks those apps are so fun. lol!
~~~

The news is plastered with information about the Covid-19 outbreak. There have been a few community transferred (with unknown source) cases of the illness. It is enough to make a person worried. The local school districts have sent home notices that we do not have anyone in our area that has been a confirmed case but that they are taking the situation seriously. There's no telling what will happen should the outbreak move south to our area.

Finished

Jack finished his Natives report on the Chumash people. He did the whole thing on Google Slides--he researched the different sections, wrote his information, and typed the whole thing up on his iPad. He did a great job!

So proud of you, Jack!

Conversations with 8 Year Olds

Him: I think I need to have 30...no 60 presents for my birthday. Want to see my list?

Got to give it to the kid, though. He sure has some pretty high hopes! lol

Reunification Drill

Today, the big boys' school did a disaster reunification drill. They had all students (some 1500 of them) be signed out individually. Parents had to show photo ID on pick up, there were medical vehicles with lights flashing, and police officers were on hand. It was the whole shebang. Isaac went to pick the boys up from school early to avoid the inevitable madhouse that would ensue. Jason had forgotten that the drill was going to happen and that his dad was picking him up early. He saw the lights and all of the police officers around and panicked until Isaac was able to calm him down. I wish those with decision making power would step back and see how this event was a bit much and had the potential to scare kids needlessly. :(

What They're Reading

Shawn: Shawn is still reading a biography about Rosa Parks. He seems to really like the topic and knows a lot about it. He comments on how mean the other people are. (He has such a sweet heart.)

Jason: Jason is in the last book from the Hunger Games series. He only has about 70 pages left. He seems to really enjoy the book and series.

Jack: Jack is doing some more non-fiction reading. Tonight he read about snakes. He has 59 AR points, which is well over his goal.

Keep up all the hard work, boys!

Caterpillars

Found these guys outside while we were looking around. Not sure if this is a continuation of last season's caterpillars or a new season. It's fun to see them nonetheless.

Valentine's Day

We had a low key day today as Jack is still recovering from his tooth extraction. He was quite excited to learn that the Tooth Fairy is a s friend of his dentist, and the dentist gave him a good review. The TF rewarded Jack with a $5.00 bill for how awesome he was! Hard to believe the Tooth Fairy actually knew the dentist...small world. :)

Shawn was less impressed with his sloth than he was with the chocolate.
He quite enjoyed the chocolates. lol

Jack got a Hamster that repeats everything it hears.
He has been having a BLAST with the hamster.
He got gummy hearts as his candy. He's not a fan of chocolate.
Crazy kid.

Jason had a box of chocolates for breakfast.
Enough said. LOL

Dentist Take 2

Jack got to go back to the dentist today. He got a little happy gas so he could get a tooth extracted and have 2 teeth filled. He was SO good! He even thanked everyone when they were done. LOL

So proud of him!

He does need to go back to the dentist for one more extraction on the other side of his mouth, so it is really good he likes the dentist as much as he does. :)

Sweet Boy

Jason wasn't feeling well last night, and Jack was very concerned about him. He spent a lot of time asking me if Jay was going to be okay last night. This morning, while Jay was in bed (no school for him today), Jack tried to cheer him up by singing to him. Then he said that he could go get Jason a puzzle to help him feel better. When he left for school, Jack told him to feel better.

Jack was much better after school when he saw that Jason was feeling better. He was pretty worried about his brother for a while there!

So sweet!

Another Project

Jack has a new project to work on, so that's just what he did this weekend. I don't know, but I think this is a pretty advanced assignment for a third grader!

Yikes!

Happy Homecoming Day!

Jason's asked to delay his Homecoming Day until the weekend, so today we got to celebrate that 12 years ago, our Jason finally came home after 100 days in the hospital!

It's a day that is very important to us, and we will continue to celebrate for as long as the boys will let us!

Jason had a pretty great day. He was able to play on his iPad as long as he wanted today, which is always a favorite for him. lol. His dad also took Jay out for a special son/father lunch date. The evening was topped off with his favorite food for dinner!

After dinner, we sang Happy Homecoming Day to you, and he got to blow out his candles.

He was also excited to get some presents.

He even talked his dad into getting some lottery tickets earlier and had some fun scratching them. He learned the hard lesson of losing at scratchers, though. lol

Happy Homecoming Day, Jason! I hope you had a fantastic day!
