Friday Five
We've just finished week #19 of quarantine. 19 weeks...whoa.

This week has been pretty lazy around these parts. It's been too chilly to swim, so we've been mostly indoors this week, too. The boys have spent lots of time playing with Legos, drawing, and playing on their iPads instead.

Shawn's new Friday activity is to go for a drive. He had a taste of the world beyond our four walls, and now he wants to keep that tasting coming. LOL
~~~
Jason has a YouTube channel that he is quite proud of. He mostly posts videos of him playing his games. He even has five "followers"! It's fun to talk to him about his stats, too. :)

We had some arguing and fighting this week, so we proposed to the big boys that we could change the sleeping configuration around to separate them. Let's just say that they didn't think that was the best idea and are still together in the same room. Seems that they may just like each other a tiny bit more than they realized. Go figure. 🤷♀️

Conversations With 12 Year Olds
Me: "Look. His hair is almost as long as your hair!"
Him: "No it's not."
Him: "Not even close. I can eat my hair."
Me (pulling his brother's hair down to measure its length): "This is pretty long."
Him: "Nope. He can't even put his hair up his nose!"
Me: "Um...why do you put your hair up your nose?!"
Him: ...exasperated sigh...
LOL. Needless to say, everyone has long hair around these parts!

Harry Potter Times
For the last several days...weeks?...months?...Jason has been walking around the house humming the theme to Harry Potter. It makes me smile to think that his interest in the story has blossomed. (We are now half way through book 2!)
Shawn has also been humming the theme to Harry Potter lately, although his motives are a little more suspect. Shawn's goal is to annoy the crap out of Jay by changing the tune just enough to be slightly off. Jason does not like it one bit, which is exactly why Shawn does it. Again I smile, because really? Nothing says love more than doing whatever you can to pester your brother. ;)

Personality Differences
Several weeks ago, we had to change insurance carriers. It's been a bit of a headache because now we have to go and meet a whole new set of doctors. Tomorrow is one of those meet and greet doctor appointments.
When I told the boys that they (we) would miss school tomorrow for the appointment, their reactions were a perfect summary of their personalities.
Jason was adamant that he did not want to go to the doctor AT ALL. He fussed about it for quite sometime, complaining and fretting about what was going to happen. I think right now he's in a state of denial, so he's dropped the subject for the time being. I imagine the morning will be filled with more venting.
Just like in other instances, Jay needs a lot of conversation about what is going to happen in new situations. He needs to voice his displeasure (loudly most of the time), and by golly he wants you to know that he is not happy about it.
Shawn on the other hand was all for it. "Can I talk to the doctor and ask him some questions?" he wanted to know.
"Of course," I told him.
Shawn is ready to go to the doctor right now. He has asked me approximately a hundred times when we were going to leave. lol.
Shawn rarely, if ever, protests about going somewhere. He is so "go with the flow" and the idea of going somewhere (anywhere!) and talking to new people is all it takes to get him jazzed about something.
They may be twins, but I love that each is his own individual!

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Brotherly Love
Shawn woke up feeling a little under the weather this morning. We were going to send him to school anyway, but at the last minute, Isaac decided that it was probably best that he not go to school today. (It was a good thing, too, because he ended up sleeping another hour after he got to my mom's house.)
Anyway, before he left the breakfast table, and on his own I might add, Jason decided to give Shawn a hug to help him feel better. He said he would miss him at school.
How sweet is that?

All on His Own...an Observation
Jason spent the night at grandma's this evening, so Shawn (and Jack) got lots of extra attention tonight.
Let me just say that Shawn LOVED it. I swear he literally did NOT stop talking for the entire evening.
He talked to me.
He talked to daddy.
And when both of us were occupied in some fashion, he talked to Jack or even himself!
It was really fun to see how animated he became. (That isn't to say that Shawn isn't pretty darn amazing while Jason is here, but the behavior is different when Shawn shares the spotlight with his brother.) I guess I hadn't really realized just how much the personality of one affected the other, especially in relation to Jason being the more dominant of the two while Shawn is more passive.
Shawn did ask about Jason a number of times, wanting to know when he'd come home. He even told me that Jason was supposed to come home now, which I'm pretty sure he really meant. I do think he enjoyed his evening, though.
Fostering the relationship of the pair while giving each the ability to shine in his own way AND on his own has been a unique challenge. Now that I've seen Shawn's reaction tonight, I'm more determined to give them opportunities like this in the future.
This whole twin business is fascinating to me!
