If I Didn't See It, I Wouldn't Believe It.

Seriously.

The boys who won't eat apples, because, you know, the chunks are too big, decided that today they'd have pieces of grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread. Shawn had around three bites while Jason had about a fourth of a sandwich!

Hot dog! So long baby food!

On This Day In History...

One year ago today, our little Shawn Bon came home from the hospital for the very first time. It seems like just a blink ago...the time does really fly by when you're having fun!

Shawn, you are one tough little boy, and you continually amaze me each and every day. I am so happy that you are our son.

Happy Homecoming Day, Shawn!

Things Are A' Changing

Here's how...

1) Good, Lord, help us. They're mobile!

Isaac and I now get our leg exercise by walking over baby gates over and over again. Fun.

2) We're on whole milk now, too. We started mixing the formula with milk today, with the goal of not having to buy more formula when what we have runs out. They seem to like it just fine, too! (whew)

What Is Up With the Helmet?

Thursday was our fourth month of the helmet. We went in for a growth check/helmet adjustment.

Jason's head has grown 1/8 of an inch this last month giving us a whopping total of 3/8 of an inch for the entire 4 month period. That means we still have a ways to go to get his head shape within "normal" range.

Of course I ask how much longer Jason will have to be in the helmet. (asked while I am daydreaming of pitching the stupid thing out the window on the way home) The answers are always vague without any definites. I don't handle that well. I am a planner. I need estimations, if-then statements, and goals.

They didn't really have the answers for me, so I had to come home to research, answer the questions for myself, and hopefully renew my enthusiasm for this treatment because man, it sucks.

Here's what I found:

The whole reason Jason is wearing the helmet in the first place is because his cephalic ratio (the width of his head divided by the length of his head multiplied by 100) is below the normal range. The ideal cephalic ratio is 78% with the normal range between 73%-83%. Jason's ratio was at 60% when he first got his helmet, which characterizes his head shape as severe.

As of Thursday, his ratio is at 66%. It's better, but not where we want it to be yet.

Our goal is to get him as close to the 73% as possible, while keeping in mind that we will be satisfied with near that ratio as long as we feel his head shape is decent. (I admit that this will be tough to keep objective about when we didn't really see a problem with his head originally.)

By my calculations, if his head continues to grow at the same rate it has grown so far, it should take him 4 more months!

Holy cow. I'm not sure we're going to make it!

I mean, we're all for the round head thing and all, but wearing that sucker for 23 hours a day (and we really do follow that pretty closely even though he is never wearing it in pictures--I just try to take the pictures when he has it off) is getting very old. His head is always sweaty and smells like stinky feet. He head butts you (well, mostly me) with the helmet. The stupid Velcro strap on the back of it has sliced our faces more times than we can count now. And we just miss being able to kiss the top of his sweet little head!

Sigh.

What we do for beauty, right? :-)

*Fortunately, the growth has increased the width of his head while the length hasn't increased much. The length has grown 1/16 of an inch to be exact, but I think that was just due to the different techs measuring his head and not so much due to actual growth.

Giddyup!

Jason here, on his new toy from Uncle Jeff.

Shawn likes the new toy, too, but his experience isn't quite the same--picture a lot of licking of the horse's head instead. It's okay, Shawn. Whatever floats your boat! (Yet another reminder that they do like to be different...)

Due

Today is the boys' Due Birthday! (heh, I made up a new term) Now we can say that they are officially one year old adjusted! (you wouldn't believe how tricky that little question of, "How old are they?" can be)

It still blows my mind that this is the day that they were due, but they were born in October!

Now for another round of then and now...

Look Who's Talking....

At only 11.5 months adjusted!

Both boys are actually saying words now. Both can say hi, mama, and dada. Jason says kitty. (Shawn said kitty once yesterday, too, but it isn't regular.) Jason can say bye. Shawn says hi. Shawn says hi dada when he sees Isaac. Jason calls for me when Isaac is doing something to him that he doesn't want done (like wiping his nose).

It is the neatest thing!

I think next should be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious for the wow factor, but we may be a long way off from that! hehe :-)

Look-Alike Meter - Finally the Truth Is Out!

I found this fun site, which is supposed to tell you which parent a child looks like. For best results, it tells you use a frontal, straight on picture of each person. Sadly, pickings of that type of picture are slim for the adults in the family, so the picture of us is from 2 or 3 years ago. Oh well--we still look like that!

So what were the results?

(I used another picture of Shawn and Jason the other night and it said that Shawn looked 8% more like me and Jason looked 11% more like me, so I suppose the results do vary based on the picture you use.)

If you try it yourselves, I expect to see some results! Email me or something!
