Question of the Week
What has been the best thing we've done this summer?
Jack: "Swimming. Going to the beach and getting in the waves. They pushed me down!"
Jason: "I liked the zoo because I got to see so many different types of animals."
Shawn: "Swimming in the pool is my favorite. I'm getting good at swimming."
What is one thing you still want to do this summer?
Jack: "Let's see the Lion King in the movies!"
Jason: "I still would like to do a hotel room or something."
Shawn: "I want to go on an adventure and find a haunted house."

Chores Day #2
The boys enjoyed chores day so much last week, we had another one today! (I'm being serious, too. They like chores. Who am I to argue with that?!)
Jack got to wash the outside of the living room sliding door, sweep the hall, bathroom, living room, and his bedroom, strip the sheets off his bed (he requested we chuck his Sesame Street sheets in favor of Matchbox cars sheets this time), and clean his room.
Jason got to unload and then reload the dishwasher, wash the hand prints off the hall wall, strip the sheets off his bed, and clean his room.
Shawn got to wash the fingerprints off the front door, clean the outside of the fridge, strip the sheets of his bed, and sweep the living room and entry way.
I even had a few "bonus" chores to do if they wanted. Jay picked one of those and sorted their laundry so it could be thrown in the washing machine.
Yay! A clean house is my favorite!

Summer Bucket List 2019 - Beach Visit
On Friday, our adventure led us to the beach. The boys had such a great time, they've been asking to go back since. lol
Their personalities really shined through at this visit. Jason constructed sand castles and focused on creating barriers to keep the water out of his buildings. He did get into the water, but he preferred the sand I think.
Shawn was slow to "warm" up to the water, but once he did, he was yelling "Surf's UP!!" as he tried to sacrifice himself to the sea. Waves would come up the shore, and the kid would actually lean into them. It was kind of hilarious. (And terrifying for the parents.)
Jack was the daredevil. He was all for going further and further out in the water. He had no worry about going under and didn't even seem to have an issue with the rather strong pull of the tide. He is a huge fan of the ocean. (Also terrifying for the parents. Ahem.)

Friday Five
We're nearing the end of July, which now means we have less than four weeks until the boys go back to school. Yikes!

We got to go to the beach today. It was beautiful, and the boys had a fantastic time! It also wore them out...they are dead to the world right now, and it hasn't even been 10 minutes since they went to bed. LOL
~~~
Next weeks is going to be fun-filled, too! The boys know we'll be having an adventures, but we haven't told them what we're doing yet. (And because Jason reads the blog regularly, I can't say and ruin the surprise.) I can say, that it involves a hotel visit. They are going to LOVE that!

Book update:
Shawn finished his second book this week. He scored really well on his AR test, too! 80%! He's now moved on to a book called The Absent Author by Ron Roy.
Jack finished his book and score this last weekend (he scored well, too!) and has started Runaway Ralph by Beverly Cleary.
Jason is nearing page 350 on his book, Eragon.
Dad's even gotten into the reading game. He's finished 2 books and has started his 3rd.
Mom's finished 3 books and am nearly done with the 4th.
Yay!

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Chores
This week we decide it was time to divide and conquer the housework and give the boys chores. Each boy got three tasks to complete...
Jack's chores were: 1) wash the living room sliding door, 2) dust the living room (this is one we'll have to work on), and 3) strip his bed of sheets/blankets so they can be washed
Jason's chores were: 1) wash the wall behind his chair in the kitchen, 2) clean the cat's food dishes and feeding area, and 3) strip his bed of sheets/blankets so they can be washed
Shawn's chores were: 1) clean the floor of his room and put all the toys away, 2) clean out the pantry, and 3) strip his bed of sheets/blankets so they can be washed
The great thing is that the boys actually really liked doing things around the house! I'm so excited about this. We're now going to make the three chores a weekly thing. YAY!

Butterfly Update - It's a Girl!
We finally got a chance to see a butterfly emerge from it's chrysalis. So cool!
It took the butterfly 1 minute and 22 seconds to fully emerge from the chrysalis starting at the moment of the first crack. It took it about 8 minutes once it emerged to fully expand its wings. When they first emerge, their wings are pretty floppy. (Their wings move kind of like a sail in the wind does--there's no stiffness at all to them.) It took it about 2 full hours before the wings were dry and ready for it to fly away.
Based on how the wings look, it's a girl!
