What They're Reading

What they're reading:

Shawn: The Best School Year Ever by Barbara Robinson. I'm not sure how he's feeling about this book yet. I do know that the main characters, the Herdmans, are quite the mischievous group. lol

Jason: Jason just finished The Ruins of Gorlan (The Ranger's Apprentice, Book 1) by John Flanagan today and has asked for the second book of the series, The Burning Bridge. I think by the end of the first book he liked the story line, but I don't know that he is convinced he wants to commit to the entire series. We're going to have him try book 2 before he decides. (As a side note, Jason has 336 AR points so far this year. He's read 2,186,000 words this year, too!)

Jack: Jack has been reading a number of books this week. Tomorrow he's picking a Magic Treehouse book to start, but first he wanted to read Dive Into Sharks by Thea Feldman. This book was definitely a challenge for him and had lots of technical terms and challenging vocabulary. He powered through with a little help from me and managed to get a 100% on his AR test.

Sometimes he seems like he's an 80 year old man in the body of an 8 year old.

That outfit, though. lol

Friday Five

The boys had a successful first week back after spring break. Jack even got to be student of the week! Still, we were all glad to see Friday arrive. :)

~~~
Jack and his class got to dig for dinosaur fossils today in class. They had a blast, and Jack was quite excited to tell us all about it when he got home.
~~~

Shawn and Jason learned that their sub is part of a country band. He played some music for them this afternoon. ("He even has a song on iTunes, mom!") They thought that was pretty cool.

~~~
We thought the weather was finally warming up. The boys even got to wear short sleeved shirts to school TWICE this week! Alas, no, the weather wasn't exactly warming up. We were back to long sleeved shirts this morning.
~~~

State testing is coming up next week for the big boys. After that, they only have a few short weeks left to this school year. It's crazy how fast time is flying right now. :)

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Jack made me chuckle this evening. He wanted me to read a story to him, but after not sleeping well last night and a long day at work, I was just beat. After the 5th chapter, my exhausted translated to me getting caught "sleep reading." Apparently I dozed off while reading...and managed to mumble some incoherent words as I drifted off.

Jack was not amused. "Mom. Wake up already. We are reading." He made me sit up, too. lol

I think he may have the teaching gene in him. He was not messing around. Ha!

Question of the Week

What do you think your life will be like in the future?

Jason: Hm...what I want my life to be like or what I think it will be like? Hm...I'll probably get higher than a master's degree, hopefully. I feel like I'm going to make a powerful engineering company and I'm going to buy the rights to different famous companies and make a lot of money.

Jackson: I'm going to drink some milk to get tall and go to an amusement park and ride all the kid rides. I'm going to go to school. I'm going to pet the cat and feed the fish.

Shawn: I'm going to live in a big home. I'm going to do something with cars. I'm going to live with my family (and his mama--lol). I'm going to be very happy.

Friday Four

Well, the boys' spring break has come to an end. We are all so sad, but I think they had a pretty fabulous time!

(Also, the whole 8 more weeks of school thing makes the sting a little bit easier to take. 😊)

~~~
Speaking of fabulous time, we just got back from Disneyland! We had so much fun! Pictures to come!
~~~

Jack made a circus fort. It progressed from here into quite an elaborate set up. Too cute. I just love his imagination.

~~~
Shawn gets the award for the first bloody wound during this spring break. He fell on his elbow and skinned it. It grossed Jason out ("Oh, man! Blood!"), but Shawn barely slowed down long enough to acknowledge it even happened. Lol. He's a pretty tough kiddo.
~~~

It's a Friday Four kind of day!

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Me: "Jack, don't kill all the bugs out here. Bugs are our friends...except spiders. Kill all the spiders."

Him: "Mm...kay. I'll get them all."
