Cute Big Boy Saturday - Hand Prints 2017

We fell into this tradition by accident, but once I realized it could be a thing, I made it one. Every year on this date, I make the boys stamp their hand prints on paper.

We started it in 2011 - Jack's first year on Earth. He was not quite 6 months old. The big boys were nearing 4.

They were all so tiny then.

They keep getting bigger, these boys.

Now these big boys are nearing 10, and Jack is 6!

It's mind blowing to me. How can they be this big?

I swear Jason's hand looks like an adult's!

Their hand prints are such a visual representation of how much they've changed, a tangible way of seeing the passage of time when sometimes it's so hard to grasp in day to day living of life.
These hand prints tell the tale. Our boys are not so little anymore.

Friday Five

Good news this week! Everyone did very well on their math tests this week. Both Shawn and Jay passed their geometry tests with flying colors. Jack did great on his math test. Awesome job, boys!

~~~
This week the boys chose to go bike riding around the neighborhood as their reward for a good week at school. They are getting so good at riding around now! Fun!
While we were out on the bikes, a woman came running over to us. She said she was looking for a bike like the boys' and wanted to know where we had happened to find them. Come to find out, her daughter even goes to therapy at the same place! Anyway, it was really neat to be able to tell her about how we were able to get the bikes for the boys. I hope she is able to get a bike for her own daughter, too. <3 p="">
~~~

The boys have really taken to playing the Wii lately, and each kid has his own specialty. Shawn is all about the bowling game. He is surprisingly good at the game, too. He currently has the high score. Jason is great at the flying game. Somehow, he is the only one of us who manages to not crash on that game. I'm not sure how he does it. Jack's favorite game is the sword fighting game. Playing that game sends him into a fit of hysterics. Too funny!

~~~
Jason has been reading the Percy Jackson book series (he's on book 4 now) and has been loving it. Tonight he told me that he really likes Greek Mythology. It's so funny for him to say that, because I was totally into Greek Mythology when I was a kid, too, although I'm fairly certain I haven't shared that information with him. Must be in the DNA. :)
~~~

Finally, after nearly 10 years, Gracie the cat is occasionally letting the boys pet her. This is pretty HUGE because until now, she has always run to hide anytime they'd look her way. lol. There are still specific conditions she requires to be met before she'll relent, mainly that I am the buffer between her and the child in question, but she will let them pet her while she purrs contentedly. Yea!

Flying

Jack: "I'm Flying!"

Shawn: "That's not Flying, that's falling with style!"

Happy Birthday!

Tonight was this guy's birthday!

The boys helped him blow out his candles.

We are cake and he opened presents. The boys were quite proud of the ones they made for him. ❤️

Happy Birthday, daddy! We love you very much and are so glad your ours!

Little Artist?

After learning about the artist, Jackson Pollock, in his class, Jack responded with, "Oh yeah. I can paint the Mona Lisa."

Lol. Who cares that the two don't go together. My baby is an ar-teest!

Friday Four

Another successful week is in the books for the boys. Today's weekly treat was another trip to Target. It cracks me up that the boys like that place as much as I do. :)

~~~
Jack wrote a note to his teacher this week. He told her he loved her. My heart melts. Sigh.
~~~

Jack was in a mood and asked me to take pictures of him with his brothers. It was too cute!

~~~
It's kind of crazy what the kids are learning in school these days. The big boys are learning geometry, and Jack is doing the beginnings of algebra! Blows my mind! These standards don't mess around.
~~~

It's been a long few days, so it's Friday 4 this week. Yay for the weekend, though!

And Yet Another Look!

Jason wanted to drive the car, too...

Be still my heart. These boys are growing up too fast!

A Look into the Future

Shawn got to sit in the Pilot for a little while this afternoon. He liked it so much, he didn't want to get out. LOL. I think we got to see a little glimpse of our future...

I'm guessing he's going to like driving himself around. :)

A Letter to the Children

Dearest children,

As much as we all love Harry Potter, please remember that we are not, in fact, actual wizards. (Sadly) That means that when your brother does a "spell" with his wand and turns you into a frog, it truly is pretend. Yelling, crying, and fighting with said brother about turning you back into a boy isn't needed -- you know, because you are still actually a boy. And you know you are. So? I'm not sure why you are so upset.

Because this is pretend. Remember?

Mr. Wand Boy, quit antagonizing your brother and being a turd. Pretend to turn him back if it means that much to him. Got it? Mm Kay?

Thanks,
Your mother

Friday Five

"Mom, what are we having for dinner? Are you making yummy goodness?"
Darn right, kid. Lol.

So glad we taught them that as the answer to the dreaded "What are we having for dinner?" question!

~~~
School story about Jack:
Jack's class went to library and the librarian was reading a story to the class. Jack didn't really seem like he was interested, so the teacher went and sat down next to him on the rug. She said she was going to ask him some comp questions to see if he was paying attention. As soon as she sat down, Jack turned to her and whispered, "Mrs D. It's so quiet in here. I LOVE it!"
Ha!
~~~

Jason's teacher assigned reading the first chapter of a book about 9-11. I think she was a bit surprised when Jason came in the next day having read the entire book. LOL. That's what happens when you've got a reader in the classroom.

~~~
This week's reward for a good week was a trip to Target. Jason wanted to go see the Halloween display. He came back to the cart with this gem in hand:
Jack would have preferred that Jason skipped that part because Jack just about jumped ship when he saw this thing.
As you can see, he was NOT a fan. Poor kid!
~~~

This week, the three boys have really taken an interest in the Wii bowling and the sword fighting games. Their matches are equal parts of joy and frustration for all parties involved. It's kind of funny to watch (most of the time at least).
