Me: Jack, what was your favorite thing that happened at school today?

Him: I liked doing math with Heleena!

Lol. I wonder if this is a sign of times to come with this kid? He is a cutie. ;)

Conversations With the Boys

We've been talking a lot about what the boys will want to do when they get older. It's never too early to start them thinking about the paths available to them in the future, and we're starting early to prime them for college and the world beyond. Anyway, I always get a kick out of their answers. Tonight was no exception. 

Tonight, our future career prospects are a fireman, an engineer, and a “library-er.” Ha! Cracked us up!

Future

Every now and then, I like to check in with the boys and see what they think they'd like to do in the future with the old, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" question. A love the small glimpse into the world as they see it that their answers provide.

Jack: "I want to be in the Ringling Brother's Circus!" Yes, it was said with and exclamation and was full of all kinds of enthusiasm. lol

Jason: (at breakfast while eating a giant cinnamon roll donut from the shop) "I think I'd like to be either a biologist or a chemist...or person who makes pastries." I'm not sure, but his answer may have been heavily influenced by the activity at the moment. :)

Shawn: At first he went with his standard reply of "pumpkin" for this question. (Don't ask, I have NO idea why he always says "pumpkin.") Anyway, I asked again, and this time he said something that surprised me a bit. "A doctor. I want to be a doctor." He wouldn't give me any more than that no matter how I pressed him. Sigh. Still, I love that this kid is even thinking about being a doctor, especially because he still to this day has a strong weariness of anything medical.

So there you have it! 💜

Can't Live Without

I have an app that sends me a question a day. Today's question was for Jason, but I asked all three of the boys: "What is one thing you couldn't live without?"

Jason's answer:

Family. If you guys were gone, I wouldn't know how to live. 

So I asked him, "Okay, outside of your family, what is something you couldn't live without?"

His answer:

Electronics. Any device because they are amazing. They are entertaining because I can play games and watch YouTube videos. My favorite game right now is every game!

Shawn's answer:

You. I couldn't live without you because I love you! And also just my whole family.

Jack's answer:

I couldn't live without my ticket! (to Disneyland) I also couldn't live without my friends.

Overheard while Isaac volunteered in Jack’s class today...

Jack was in his small reading group with the teacher. She asked Jack a question at the end of his reading group session (which was also the end of the school day) about a book they read yesterday. She wanted to know what the lesson they learned from yesterday’s book was. Jack replied, "The lesson was that we can do this later." as the bell rang. The teacher chuckled. She looked at Isaac and said, “I think he is done for the day.”

Yep, our boy calls it like he sees ‘me! Lol

Jason: I don't get it.

Little Artist?

After learning about the artist, Jackson Pollock, in his class, Jack responded with, "Oh yeah. I can paint the Mona Lisa."

Lol. Who cares that the two don't go together. My baby is an ar-teest!

Friday Five

We just got back this afternoon from a two night trip to San Diego. The boys had absolutely no idea where we were going until we got there. I had managed to pack everything, load it into the car, and get them in their seats without them having any clue of what was up. Then all they got was that we were headed out for an adventure. It was so cool to see them light up when they realized we had stuff in the car to stay at a hotel. LOL

Our main objective for this trip was to do our annual trip to Sea World, which we did on Thursday. We had a great time, too!

Jack was again his thrill seeker self. Anything that moved was his favorite thing, and he wanted on it.

Jason picked out a pearl, but he was a little upset by the idea that the oyster "sacrificed" itself for him to get it. :( He loved to touch pools. I think he could stay there all day if we'd let him.

Shawn like feeding the flamingos the absolute best out of the day. He also loved the mantas, although he wasn't sure if he actually wanted to touch one. He was fascinated by them, though. He also liked the Sea Lion show.

Jack: "hm. I wish for a rhino."

Only 5 more sleeps until the boys start school! How can it be?! Where has our summer gone?

Jack just finished eating an apple. "Tah dah!" he said while holding up the remains. "One apple bone!"

Too cute! I almost hated having correct him. From now on, let's all refer to the core as an "apple bone" m-kay, and then I won't have to!

Friday Five

This weekend we are selling a bunch of things at a local consignment sale. To prep, we were going through all of the boys' old clothes and toys. (Sniff, sniff) Jack came up and wanted to see what I was doing.

"Are you getting me a new baby brother?" he wanted to know.

Um, don't count on that, bud. LOL

By the way, you know you really liked the clothes your kids wore when you find something cute on the rack, think how sweet the boys would have looked in it, and then realize that the outfit was something you actual brought to sell. Ha!

This week back in school/work after our vacation was rough. We are all tired and worn out. Top that off with a sore throat for Jay, and things have been loads of fun.

The warm weather has meant for lots of time outside playing (and bathing it seems) in the dirt. We've also had fun watching a new crop of caterpillars grow. Got our first J's of the season this week, too!

We got word this week that Jason's bike is almost ready to ship. They will be sending it out at the beginning of May. Looks like we may have it in plenty of time before summer vacation!

We haven't heard anything about the arrival date for Shawn's bike, but we were told it would take 6-8 weeks to get here. (It comes from Sweden, I think.) Depending on when the actual order went out, we could have it here as soon as the next few weeks. :)

Then we'll have to find something for Jack!

Him (sighing): I can't sleep. Jason keeps telling me to go to sleep, but I can't sleep. 

Me: Just rest and listen to the music.

Him: Ok. Mom? Do you know what you know?

Me: I know I love you.

Him: I love you, too.

Him: When I grow up I want to have an iPhone 6 with a secret password. It's going to be 6400.

Me: But that password's not a secret...now I know it.

Him (a look of shock on his face): No, that's a fake password. It's going to be 6477!

Me: Now I know that one, too.

Him (smacking his forehead): No! That's a fake password, too! Both of them are fake! Oh, forget it!

We were watching television when he muttered something under his breath. Immediately his hand flew up to cover his mouth...

Him: Oh no! I just said the F word!

Isaac: What?

Him: I just said "fart!" I'm sorry!

J: Mom, someone stuck their tongue at me at school today.

Me: Well, that wasn't nice, now was it?

J: No. It wasn't!

Isaac (giving me a knowing look): What was her name?

J: Molly.

Isaac: Was that the little girl who said hi to you this morning?

J: No, that was Emily.

Isaac (still giving me that knowing look): And so it begins...

If Isaac's experience in elementary school is any indication, it seems our boy may have been discovered by girls. Oh joy. I never should have let him go to school with that tie! lol

Isaac: Yeah, you love to annoy him.

S: (smiling his evil little grin) Uh huh! I do!

Him: Mom, do birthday wishes come true?

Me: Well, it depends what you ask for. Sometimes they do.

Him: I'm going to wish that Kyle Busch comes to my birthday.

Me: I don't think Kyle Busch will be able to come to your party, kiddo.

Him: (Sigh) Okay. I guess I'll wish for grandma then.

Him: (pointing to a spot two feet behind him) I need that car. Could you get it for me?
