Mostly Wordless Wednesday

Someone stole my baby and replaced him with this huge boy.

There's only thirty-one days until he's two years old. Where has the time gone?

Explosion

Jack has never been much of a talker, but this last week he has had a word explosion. It has been FANTASTIC! Personally, I think he finally realized that the only way to get anything in this family is to talk and talk loud. He has two pretty verbose brothers to compete with, you know.

The only drawback is that the boy sounds just like Shawn to me. I have reached the point where when Jack says certain things, I have no idea which of the two has spoken. Take this evening, for instance. The boys were in bed, and I heard Shawn call my name. I went in to see what he wanted only to find him dead to the world. Jack, on the other hand, was super excited to see me when I answered the next "momma." ;)

Well That Was Fun - NOT

So, if he *maybe* swallowed something small and white, but is acting OK (if not annoyed at us for pestering him), it should be fine to just watching him, right?

We don't know for sure what it was or even if he actually swallowed something...what would you do?

Does that tell you how our evening went? lol.

It seems our Mr. Jack swallowed his first...something.** We were not even sure exactly what it was, although I was fairly certain it wasn't poisonous or hazardous. All I knew was that Isaac thought it was white, although that could have been his teeth. Sigh. Vague was the key term of the night, for sure.

Anyway, we did eventually decide Jack did swallow something. He did a few funny throat clearing episodes, but he acted and ate totally fine all evening.

Someone who isn't me may have been concerned enough to think a possible emergency trip was warranted at first. Thanks to some wise, knowledgeable friends, we decided in the end to just keep watch and play it by ear tonight. That decision was made a bit easier because we have our Angelcare Monitor to rely on while we sleep. (I love that thing!)

Unfortunately, even after all of the drama tonight, the boy has apparently not yet learned his lesson. We still spent a lot of time taking other stuff out of his mouth. Sigh. He is going to make us gray.



**Of course, this is the first something that we know of. It could quite possibly be that the boy has been swallowing junk for months and this was the first time we've almost/maybe saw him!

Friday Snippets

In every story, there are moments that that never make it off the editing room floor. We take lots of pictures of our guys and we have a lot of fun moments, but it's hard to find ways to incorporate all of them in the blog. In other words, those small moments are "edited out" and often forgotten.

I've decided that on occasion, I'll post some of these random snippets from our lives in what I'll call "Snippets" because these small moments are just as important to remember as the bigger ones.

Here are a few Snippets from this week:

Jason and I made candy necklaces this week.
He thought it was pretty cool.

This was our attempt at making a jar full of fairies.
Fairies it was not, but we did say that it was fairy dust...
and then we flew all over the living room. ;)

Jack's reading a book he took from mommy's shelf.
He was very interested and would NOT leave it alone.

Shawn and Jack watching a riveting episode of Bubble Guppies.
Shawn loves to tell me that Jack is really cute.

I had to include this one for Shawn. These signs
were all over the zoo to cover up their construction areas.
Shawn LOVED them and made me take lots of pictures of them.
I think we have twice as many pictures of these signs as we do real animals. LOL.

Before We Were Parents

I saw this topic on another blog and thought we'd try it here. I even managed to get Isaac to participate, so this is a joint post! ;-)

Topic: Things we thought (about kids/having a family) before we had kids...

Stacie: I never understood how busy (and therefore tired) you could be simply doing nothing. It seems that even when there is nowhere to go and nothing to do per say, I end up feeling just as tired as I did on those super busy, don't stop until night days. I've learned the boys have the same amount of energy to use up no matter what is happening--that energy translates directly to my exhaustion.

Isaac: I thought kids are supposed to sit, eat what you put in front of them, and finish their meals in a timely manner. Nope. I go through intense, high level negotiations during mealtime. Even after all of that, it's amazing how long it takes these boys to actually eat.

Stacie: I never thought I'd lose my control of the television until after the kids are in bed. Oh how I miss actually watching a television program when it airs rather than days later. I might now be considered an official walking encyclopedia of all things pre-k television.

Isaac: I never realized how challenging it would be to get a decent picture of kids. I see all those moments in other people's photos and frames and me wonder what they did to get those perfect shots. Thank goodness for digit cameras. It takes thirty pictures to get that one shot where no one's blinking and every one's looking in the same direction. I don't even need smiles any more!

Stacie: I never really realized how much crap kids have! We have toys bulging out of every nook and cranny, and of course these boys know exactly what toy they have. I should mention that yes, they miss and ask for things I get rid of. Sigh.

Isaac: I thought we had years before we'd feel like the boys were patronizing or humoring us. At five, we've already started to get polite courtesy laughs after our jokes, eye rolls, and "Oh, brother" statements.

Stacie: I never thought I'd have three children. I pictured myself with one child and a girl at that! lol. Now I can't imagine our lives without these awesome boys we were lucky enough to have.

Isaac: I thought it would be much tougher to stump me with their questioning. I finally had to say, "Because that's just the way it is." It did take these boys for me to realize how much I still don't know.

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Animal

He fell asleep on the couch this afternoon. It had been a long day after an early wake-up. Plus he did a pretty hard workout at therapy.

This is how Isaac found him when he came home from work.

Leave me alone! I wanna sleep.

You know, there is something so PERFECT about Animal covering his face just like that. He couldn't have made that blanket sit better on his own face if he tried. Plus, our sweet little Shawnie has been somewhat of a terror lately. Oh boy does he know how to push his mommy's buttons! Lol.

All smiles after an afternoon snooze.

Fortunately, Animal stayed on the blanket once he woke up and didn't become his alter ego for the evening. Yea!

Our Day at the Zoo - A Picture Post

Last Friday, Isaac and I decided to take the boys to the zoo.

Jack's so excited to visit the zoo!

First stop: potty! lol. Jay and I after a successful trip to
the restroom. (It was one of those times when Jason was happy to tell
the entire room play by play details of the adventure. Yes. I heard laughing.)

Then we headed out to see some animals.

The elephants were quite interesting.

At least Jason thought so!

We saw some...kind of monkey (I'm not sure what kind they are!)
Don't they look like a certain couple we know? Ahem.

Jack discovered the BEST part of the whole zoo--
the pond!

He thought it was a good idea to stay there all day.
In fact, he kept making a break for the pond at every opportunity.

Then we decided to have some lunch.
Here we are waiting for daddy to come back with the order.



Now we're waiting for them to call our number.

Ah! It's food time! Jack was glad to get his favorite
waffle and fruit lunch.

The idea of hamburger, chicken nuggets, or hot dog
 was definitely not appealing he thought.

The big boys gave hamburgers, nuggets,
and hot dogs a big thumbs up!

We spent some time checking out the rocks in
the pavement. Jason is filling in a hole in this shot.

Shawn on the other hand, tried his best to make holes
so he could get the rocks!

Perfect Monday Moment

Today I just downloaded the pictures from our Friday trip to the zoo. I totally love this shot of the big boys...

Shawn was sitting at this picnic table all by himself. Jason saw him there alone and had to go over to sit there, too. They started out talking to each other across the table, but after a few minutes, they were sitting next to each other on the same side.

They are really beginning to enjoy being around each other now, and it is so heartwarming to see their relationship develop into something more than just brothers.

Too Tired To Eat

Jack was so, so tired at lunch today, but he HAD to keep eating. I love these moments. They make me smile every time!

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

While listening to a children's television program singing about sharing...

Me: What do you think? Do you like to share Shawn?

Shawn: No. It makes me sad.

Shawn: But I like it when Jason does!

With that, he dissolved into a five minute fit of laughter. Sigh.

Conversations With 5 Year Olds

Today at school, the therapist set up a scavenger hunt outside for Jason. He was not exactly feeling the outdoors thing, as he thought is was kind of bright outside.

After she hid some things, she asked him what he wanted to find first.

"Um, I know. I want to find some shade first."

How can  you argue with that? Lol.

And yes, he did finish the hunt. ;)
