First Sick of the Year

Well, it wouldn't be a holiday weekend without someone being sick. Looks like we've got 1 down, 1 sniffling, and 1 blissfully unaware of what is to come. Sigh.

Here's hoping that whatever this is moves through quickly. Yay school germs! (not)

Student Leader Application

Jason's applying to be one of the student leaders at his school. He's very excited about the possibility!

Jason's paragraph explaining why he is interested in becoming a student leader for the school:
"I am interested in becoming a student leader because I want to be a leader for not just a classroom, (but also*) the whole school. I also wish to help make decisions and be a part of the teamwork it takes to be a leader. I think I can do a good job because I listen, follow directions, and help out whenever I can. I am smart, positive, and creative as well. I hope I can become a student leader and help out the school."

His teacher wrote:
1) Jason is a very dependable student.
2) He is kind and looks out for others.
3) Jason always completes all of his work and follows directions well.

We're wishing you lots of luck, Jay. We know you'll do a great job!

*He found an error after I copied the paper. He corrected it on the paper he is turning in. :)

Mostly Wordless Wednesday

He said that he wanted to see what he looked like with facial hair...

And he just happened to be eating a Starburst...

So naturally, he made a Starburst Mustache! If you ever need the messiest and perhaps the most unnecessary way to eat sweets, just ask Jason. What can we say? It’s a gift. lol

Creative Minds

Found two of the boys quietly working on their own projects.

One is making a body kit for one of his Hot Wheels cars, and the other is making a house - all out of cardboard.

Nice to know that they don’t always need a screen in front of them to still have fun.

What's Next?

You never know what this kid is going to be doing when he comes into the room. Somewhere, he found a clothespin...

and became a duck. LOL. Who knows what he's going to morph into next! :)

Question of the Week

If I asked the boys what they would want for breakfast, what would they say?

Shawn:
Shawn would go for one of three things: a waffle and banana, a donut and a banana, or a "breakfast burrito" with egg and bacon

Jason:
Jason loves home made French toast with lots of butter and powdered sugar, bacon, and hash browns

Jack:
Jack is all about his waffles and fruit. He likes bacon also. He likes Banana Nut Cheerios, too, but that cereal goes in and out of season (and production!), so it isn't always something we have on hand to give him. (I think I bought 14 boxes of it the last time we saw it in the store!)

Friday Five

The boys' school had a fire alarm today. How do we know? Because we could hear it at our house--a whole 1.2 miles away! It was super loud. I can't imagine what it had to have been like to listen to it while there at the school.

~~~
The first full week of school is down for the boys. They are getting back into the swing of things nicely, even doing so while dealing with things without our regular people around them. Go, boys! Here's hoping they have a fantastic year.
~~~

My school year starts on Monday. I've already been to school to set up my classroom, but I will admit to having some pretty serious reluctance about going back. I already miss my summer vacation!

~~~
After fielding about the 500,000th question about when they would get to do something, I decided to fall back on my teaching experience and bought a pocket chart. We now have a schedule to follow. It's not a super rigid schedule, but everyone has a basic idea of when things will happen, and I no longer have to be the one to tell them. Win! lol
~~~

Grace, the cat, has discovered that the little people around this place have hands and can use them to pet her! She has especially taken an interest in Jason's petting ability. She now meets him by his bed for her nightly petting, which makes them both super happy. LOL

Roller Coaster

Jason was the coaster cart moving Jack down the track. Jack thought it was hilarious! lol

Is it possible to hit the wall only three days into the school year? No? You sure?

I think we hit it anyway. We're all pooped. Only 177 more days to go!

Friday Five

Whelp, the first two school days are in the books. The boys have had relatively decent days, too. Here's to a great year for these guys!

(Woowho! Only 178 more days to go until summer vacation. ðŸ˜‰

~~~
Speaking of vacation, we tried to convince the boys that the weekends are really just micro mini summer vacations. I'm sure they buy that description, though. LOL
~~~

We are super proud of Jason. He participated in the school district's summer reading challenge. Kids keep track of their reading and submit the number of hours they've read over the summer. Jason read religiously every day of the summer.

Grand total for 2018 Reading Challenge:
3,200 minutes read (53.33 HOURS)
445,238 words read

Way to go, Jason!

~~~
Jason's eye glasses are in. We are excited to go pick them up tomorrow. Yay!
~~~

So glad that this school week was shorter, so we get the chance to sort of ease into this school year. We are pooped. lol

School!

School started today!

Can you believe how handsome these boys are? They were not exactly looking forward to school today, but they put on their brave faces and carried on...

By all accounts, they seemed to have a relatively decent day. The big boys are in the same class again this year, too!

They looked a little worn for wear when they got home this afternoon, though...

Cooling down by the air conditioner...

Mom. Please. No more mamarazzi pictures.
You're killing me, here. lol

I don't want to smile for the picture.
Can't you just leave me alone already?
Bring on a great year for this crew!

Conversations with 10 Year Olds

As he was walking down the hall toward his bedroom: “Mom, I think the cat threw up somewhere around here. I can smell something gross.”

Um, yeah. Isaac brought Chinese food home for the two of us. He was smelling that. Lol. (It was good, too!)

Men's Camp Out!

The one thing that Shawn has asked to do all summer long is to have a camp out. This weekend, we were finally able to make that happen. He was beside himself! So excited!!

Putting up the tent!

So. Excited!

Hanging out by the camp fire. :)

Cooking some hot dogs on the grill.

More cooking.

We ate a lot of hot dogs. lol

Then we had to make some smores and cook marshmallows!
Can't have a camp out without that!

Shawn all snuggled in the tent.

Jack and Jay snuggled up in the tent.
We all hung out together until it got to be time to get ready for bed. At that point, mom went inside so the boys and daddy could have a fun night in the tent. Everyone made it through the night, too, which made the boys quite pleased with themselves. When they got up, daddy turned the camp fire back on so they could sit outside and warm up a little before breakfast. (Even breakfast was done like they were in camp -- granola bars and fruit. lol!)

They had a blast!
