Shawn and his daddy...

I think he (they both) could stay like this all day long. :-)

5 Months

5 months old. 22 Weeks Old Tomorrow. Seriously. I know I ask this every month, but how can it be?

Weight:  19 pounds and 8 ounces by my scale (between the 90-95th percentile)

Length:  29 inches! long! (above 95th percentile)

Wearing: size 2 Huggies diapers (is pushing it in this size--moving up to 3's when these are gone) and 9 month clothes.

Feedings: Jack 5-7 ounces of formula a feeding 5 times a day for a total of approximately 32ish ounces a day. He gets two meals of solids a day and has tried cereal, applesauce, pears, and squash.
Favorites: Jack's has two favorite toys at the moment. He loves his Sophie the Giraffe toy and his little barking dog toy. I brought out his jolly jumper the other day--he was in heaven! I believe it is rapidly moving to the top of his fun list. For some reason, he also loves to chew on my fingers. Lol.
Least Favorites: Jack does not like his car seat unless the car is moving. I think that is mostly because he sweats like crazy when he is in it.
Issues: I am happy to report that there don't seem to be any issues at the moment except the possibility of the next round of teeth coming in. He seems to have the same symptoms he did when his first teeth erupted.

Personality: Jack continues to be easy going. He rarely cries unless he is hungry or tired. He is a great sleeper (knock, knock, knock) and wakes up happy. He enjoys laughing at the boys when they do silly things. He loves to be a part of the action, especially when that means he is snuggled and loved on. He still does lots of talking.

Areas to work on: On to the next milestone...sitting. Gasp!
New Things: Jack got his bottom two teeth this month. He also learned how to roll over both ways. This week, he even found his feet and likes to suck on his toes. It has been a big month for him!

Randomness: Jack has his 6 month well baby visit at the end of the month. He loves it when mommy blows raspberries on his neck and armpits.
---

Some things Jack does: (milestones for a five month old)

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)

  • Can distinguish between bold colors (Not sure. How does one know that? Jeez.)
  • Can roll over (Yep. Both ways. He doesn't do it often, but he can.)
  • Amuses himself by playing with hands and feet (Yep. The feet are the new fascination. He's played with his hands for a while now.)
Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

  • Turns toward new sounds (Yep)
  • Recognizes own name (He turns when I call his name. The same?)
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

  • May sit momentarily without support (Yes! Oh lordy, I'm in trouble!)
  • Mouths objects (Yes. Everything. goes. in. his. mouth.)
  • Stranger anxiety may begin (Yep.)
Jack's two month stats are here.
Jack's three month stats are here.
Jack's four month stats are here.

Squash. A Pictorial

Big boy is cruising right along on his food adventure. So far, he's mastered rice cereal, apples (it was a natural start as he was already getting a half an ounce of apple juice a day), and pears. His still shudders every now and then at the tartness of the pears, but he seems to enjoy what he is eating and opens readily for each bite.
On Saturday, he got his first taste of squash.
Mmm...food time! What is it? It looks yummy!

Yeah, I want me some cereal!

Yu...uh...what is this stuff? This isn't my cereal and pears!

My tongue! My tongue! Someone clean it!

Hey...wait a minute! Maybe this stuff is good!
So far, squash hasn't been his favorite, but he is eating it without too much protest. I hope as the week goes on he'll develop a better appreciation. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Bed Head

When Shawn gets into his bed, he sleeps. No. Seriously, he really SLEEPS. For the longest time, he never moved while he was in bed. I'd find him in the exact spot I'd left him in hours before.

But now, Shawn is all over the place as soon as his eyes close. That has made for some interesting bed head episodes when he wakes up.

When Shawn came into the living room today after his nap, both Isaac and I had to laugh. The boy looked like he had an extra hat of hair, reminiscent of those fascinators from the royal wedding, sitting on top of his head.
What?

The side view

Isaac calls this his "Flock of Seagulls" look

Woman. Put that camera away!
It was crazy. (Sadly, it's hard to capture the full effect on these photos.) Every time I looked at it, I had to chuckle. It is wrong, but I might be guilty of leaving it like that for the rest of the day for the humor factor alone! Lol.

Cramping My Blogging Style!

So. I guess it didn't take me being a rocket scientist to realize that this whole getting back into the school year may make the daily posting a challenge. Work is cramping my blogging style, I tell you!

But, I am not giving up. At least not yet. :-)

---

Tonight was bath night around here. I had Jack stripped while I was getting his bath ready. Sometimes, just seeing him makes me catch my breath.

It still amazes me that he is here--a part of our family.

Notice he still has on a bib.
The poor boy would float away on his own drool without one!

He is growing so fast and is such a BIG boy now! I have to remind myself that he really is only 4 1/2 months old. If I didn't know better, I'm sure I'd expect him to be older than that.

He is eating like a champ. He is drinking like a champ. Plus, the thing that makes the other parents jealous, he is sleeping like a champ.

I know just how lucky we are, and I am incredibly grateful.

How could I not be, with a this little guy to love?

Let's not forget this guy...

Or this guy either...

See? I am a very lucky girl!

Take Me Back Tuesday!

Top Ten Reasons I Love Having Twins

  1. Shawn. Jason. 'Nuff said.
  2. There is always someone to snuggle and kiss.
  3. When one kid won't eat something, chances are high that the other will.
  4. One baby at a time is boring to us over achievers.
  5. They love to make each other laugh. I love to hear it.
  6. Twice the cuteness. (I try not to think about those times when we have twice the crankiness.)
  7. Twice as many things to celebrate, which leads to twice as many pictures.
  8. I get to hear "Hi!" in surround sound.
  9. When I have trouble deciding between two cute outfits, I don't have to feel guilty when I get to buy them both!
  10. Isaac and I never have to share--we each get to hold and snuggle a baby--at the same time!
Happy Mother's Day to everyone!

First Day of School

...for me.

Lol.

I am still going to be posting every day, except I may be posting pictures from the past for a few days. You know, until I can find my groove and all. (Here's hoping I find it quickly!) Besides, I think it's pretty amazing to see how much the big boys have changed!

Today's pictures, chosen at random, are from here.

Shawn - November 22, 2008

Jason - November 22, 2008
Aw... I have to toot my own horn and say we do make some cute babies!

Cute Baby Saturday - Comparisons

Just as a little comparison here - all the boys when they were approximately 143 days old.

Jack - August 20, 2011 (143 days old)

Shawn - April 9, 2008 (165 days old - 2.5 months adjusted.
Shawn was sick and in and out of the hospital
during this time, so this is the best picture I've got from that time)

Jason - March 23, 2008 (148 days old - 2 months adjusted)

The nearest estimate I have is that Shawn weighed somewhere around 10.5 pounds and was 22 inches long. Jason weighed around 11.5 pounds and was 23.5 inches long.

Jack, on the other hand, weighed 19 pounds according to the doctor's scale yesterday. He's now over 28 inches long.

It's amazing what twelve more weeks of cooking will do for a baby.

This Is How We Roll

No wonder I'm so tired. Look at this crew of mine!

This is how we roll now. :-)

The big boys had a quick well baby toddler child check up today. All looks good.

Jason weighs 36 pounds 10 ounces (gained three pounds since December!).
Shawn weighs 30 pounds 4 ounces (gained two pounds since December!).

They're getting so big. It's hard to believe they started out as my two pound miracles now. :-)

Num, Num, Num

The fussiness of yesterday became...

the two bottom teeth of today!

He's growing so fast! :-)

Right on Track

It is such a crazy feeling to be able to predict exactly when Jack is about to reach a new milestone. With the big boys, reaching milestones when they were infants was always a grey area. I never knew if they'd reach a milestone based on their actual age, adjusted age, or even ahead of time. For my type-A personality, it was maddening to not know from one minute to the next what to expect.

With Jack, however, I continue to be amazed that he is one of those textbook babies and is hitting his milestones right on cue. It really does blow my mind.

Every Wednesday I get an email from the Bump website that tells me what a baby of his age should be doing. It is always within a day or two of those emails that he decides to do whatever it says he should. I swear it's like he is reading the emails himself! I imagine him thinking things like, "Hm. It says I should blow raspberries now. Okay. I'll work on that today." or "What's this? I'm supposed to bear weight on my legs? Jeez, I better get to that."

It's been like that for every milestone he is supposed to master.

"Talk?" He started that about a week before they said I'd start to hear it.

Rolling over? He did it two days after I read that he should. Of course, he only did it that one time a week ago, and I didn't even get to see it! I had him on his back, turned to do something, turned around, and voila! Jack's on his belly with this "What the heck just happened?" look on his face. (Today at my mom's, he rolled from back to front for the second time. She missed it, too, and turned around to see him on his belly after leaving him on his back.)**

Stranger anxiety? He started it just before the email said he might.

Blowing raspberries? Started four days after that email.

It's almost eerie! (In a good way, of course.)

Tomorrow I'll get another email, as Jack will be 20 weeks old. I can't wait to find out what this next week has in store for us!

--

Interestingly, rolling from front to back is the way most babies start out. Jack can get himself to his side and then stops to suck his thumb. He's been doing that forever it seems. Apparently rolling back to front is the harder skill. That's my boy. Gotta be original, just like his older brothers! :-)

Changes

Guess what, everybody!

Things around here are about to change. No, I don't mean the I am going to be heading back to work after a way too short summer kind of change. It's even bigger.

I am so excited that A Mommy's Blog Design Studio will be creating a whole new look for this place!

Stay tuned...

Back story: Shawn was asleep in his bed all by himself. Jason wanted him to be awake so quiet time would be over. His solution was to crawl into bed with Shawn and "accidentally" wake Shawn. Sigh. (They both were most upset when I made them continue quiet time. Hey. We can't be having that kind of sabotage to my the boys' quiet time! Bwhahahahaha...evil mother strikes again!)

Today we took the big boys to the county fair. We had such a good time!

Welcome to the fair!
First we went to visit the horses and the large animals. Jason and I got to pet a horse.

Jason was just about to warm up to the idea of touching the horse himself when it had the nerve to try to lick him and snort. Let's just say that Jason was over the touching the horse idea after that. Lol.

Here are Shawn and daddy. Shawn was trying to keep his eyes on the horse, too. He is a quick one and learned from watching Jason.

Next up was the butterfly enclosure. There was a long line for the exhibit. Shawn wasn't into lines...

I hate lines!

Jason didn't mind them, so away we went...

Using our magic Q-tips to try and pick up the butterfly.
We got it!

That was so cool!
Meanwhile, Shawn and daddy were cruising around the fair. Shawn was much happier while they were in motion. He was not very patient with the sitting around waiting. He wanted to see. all. the. action!
Hey there!

Are they ever coming back from that long line, daddy?
After the butterflies, we strolled around outside. Jason spied with his little eye the most amazing sight (to him). Cars. Surprising us, he asked if he could ride on one. Heck yeah, he could! So we were off to ride the red car...

He totally loved the horn!

After we got off the ride. "Hm..." he was thinking.
"How can I get to go on the cars again?"

Then the boys got to make some really cool happy face shirts. The happy faces are even wearing glasses!

They picked out their colors and put the paint on the shirt as the machine spun the paint around.

Jason picked pink, orange,  green, and blue for his shirt.

Shawn picked blue, red, yellow, and silver for his shirt.

The boys got to eat french fries and mini donuts and chocolate covered pretzels. They loved them all. They also got to have a sip of their mom's Pepsi, which they did not love (thankfully--I don't want to share!).

But then, our night out came to an end. It was getting dark and cold. Plus, we had two very tired little boys on our hands...

Maybe someday we'll ride on the giant slide in the background...
So long fair. We had fun. We can't wait until you come back again next year!

Mommy, can we come back to the fair tomorrow?
P.S. While we were at the fair, Jack was getting some one on one time with grandma. :-)

On the Rug

Three on the rug and the little one said, "Roll over. Roll over."

Poor Jack better toughen up, or he's going to get smooshed before he turns 1.
It will be a loving smoosh at least. :-)

So they all rolled over and one fell out, and hit the floor and made a shout, "Ouch!"
Please remember, to tie a knot in your pajamas.
Rugs on the floor are only made for one.

Two on the rug and the little one said, "Roll over. Roll over."

Don't they look cute together!

Jack's smug little look while Shawn rubs his head.
So they all rolled over and one fell out, and hit the floor and made a shout, "Ouch!"

Please remember, to tie a knot in your pajamas.
Rugs on the floor

are only made

for one...

...and that's apparently just Jack!
