Oh Nothing

He raced by me...

“What are you doing?” I asked him.
“Oh, nothing,” was his reply.

I’m not buying the “nothing” defense...

Now I understand how the tape disappears so quickly!

Memories

This popped up on my Facebook feed. 4 years ago (2/27/2016). Still cracks me up!

While watching the Princess and the Frog for the first time, the movie reached a particularly dark scene with shadows coming to life to search for prince. The boys were all glued to the television.
Once the scene was over, Jason whispered, "Well that didn't creep me out at all." and shuddered.
First, yay! Sarcasm! Second, I'm thinking we might hear a bit more about this movie come bed time.

Conversations with 8 Year Olds

Him: I think I need to have 30...no 60 presents for my birthday. Want to see my list?

Got to give it to the kid, though. He sure has some pretty high hopes! lol

Conversations With Kids

A typical Saturday afternoon conversation around these parts:

Jason: Jack, what are you doing with daddy's brush?

Jack (as he is rubbing his back with the brush): That's not a brush; that's a back scratcher.

Jason: Mom, is that a brush?

Mom: That's a brush. Is it getting your itch, Jack?

Jack: Mmm...hmmm...you know...I could use this in the shower...

Mom: No, you can't take it into the shower.

Jack: It would be so good in the shower...

The Brush Back Scratcher in question

LOL!

Friday Five

Today's event at school went well for the boys. They don't remember the names of who they talked to and the details of what they actually did are a bit sketchy, but they survived and are willing to go back on Wednesday when school actually starts. Yeah, they had fun they say. 🤷‍♀️ We will call it a win. lol

(Man, getting up early was hard today! It's going to be rough next week.)

~~~
Wednesday. It will be here before we know it. That leaves us 4 days to cram in as much summer fun as we can. I think we are up for the challenge.
~~~

While the big two guys were at school this morning, Jack and I went for a walk and explored the neighborhood. We had a good time as just the two of us, something that doesn't happen all that often. :)

~~~
All around us the weather is supposed to be really hot. Here it's been strange--low clouds and wind with just enough sun to make you think you should be out in it, but it's on the cooler side when you're out. At the same time, it's 80* in the house.
Jack and Shawn were fooled and went swimming. They only managed to stay in the pool for about 15 minutes before their chattering teeth and shudders forced them back inside. So weird!
~~~

Overheard this evening...

Jason: If you hurt me, I’m going to hurt you. Understand?

Jack (excitedly): It’s a deal!

I’m not sure that’s what Jason was expecting. ðŸ¤£ðŸ˜‚

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Jack made me chuckle this evening. He wanted me to read a story to him, but after not sleeping well last night and a long day at work, I was just beat. After the 5th chapter, my exhausted translated to me getting caught "sleep reading." Apparently I dozed off while reading...and managed to mumble some incoherent words as I drifted off.

Jack was not amused. "Mom. Wake up already. We are reading." He made me sit up, too. lol

I think he may have the teaching gene in him. He was not messing around. Ha!

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Me: "Jack, don't kill all the bugs out here. Bugs are our friends...except spiders. Kill all the spiders."

Him: "Mm...kay. I'll get them all."

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Him: "Mom, why do we always have to read the book before we can watch the movie?"
Me: "Because it's the law."
Him: (sigh) "It's not the law. Other people watch the movie first."
Me: "Ok, it's a house law."
Him: (a more exasperated sigh than before) "Well fine then. This place is crazy!"
Lol!

We've been working our way through the second Harry Potter book, finally reaching the last chapter this evening. We are almost there, and the boys (especially Jason) have been itching to see the movie version of the book. Some version of the conversation above happens at least once a day. LOL

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Him: "Mom, I keep trying to practice my British accent. Yeah, it's not really working. I think I have too much American in me...I think I'm like 99% American and only maybe 1% British. I think I have to practice more so I can be more British."

Me: "... Um, okay then."

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Him: "Mom, so how long is it until Halloween? Is it next week?"

Me: "No, we still have to get through all of September and October before it's Halloween."

Him: "Are you sure? I think that it should be Halloween next week."

Me: "Well, you've got to wait a little longer than next week."

Him: "Hm. Well, OK, but I still think it should be next week. Can we go trick or treating next week then?"

Me: "Um, no."

He tried hard to convince me, too. Lol!

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

We had a milestone of sorts around here because Jason was able to swallow his first pill. :) This was very exciting around these parts, so Jay decided he wanted to call grandma and share his achievement.

J: "Can I call grandma, mom?"
Me: "Sure! The number is ..."
J: "I can do it! I know grandma's number!"

He grabbed the phone and ran into the other room. A few seconds later, I heard him talking to Shawn.

J: "Shawn, what's grandma's number?"
S: "Hey! I want to call grandma! Why are you calling grandma?"
J: " Shawn, what's her number?!"
S: (sigh) "It's 4..."

Shawn then rattled off the entire number. The whole exchange totally made me laugh. lol!

Isaac: "Do you know what you want for dinner?"

Jay: "yeah, chicken and ranch sauce. I'm not emotionally hungry, I just know what I want to eat."

Isaac: ...

Shawn: "But I just want a donut."

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Him: "Mom, what is today?"

Me: "It's the 25th. Why?"

Him: "That means there is only 5 more days of July...and then it will be August...and then we have to go back to school! Why? Oh why? Why do we have to go back to school?"

Me: "You still have almost four weeks left! It's not like you have to go to school tomorrow."

Him; "Why does the school hate us?"

lol. Do you think this kid is dramatic enough?

My Guy

Shawn is truly a mama's boy and checks in with me multiple times a day. If he hasn't tracked me down when I'm in another room, or come over to snuggle with me when I'm on the couch, he's calling out to me.

"Do you know what you know about me, mommy?"

"I know I love you, buddy."

He always sighs this contented sign and tells me he loves me, too.

Melts my heart every time.

While tucking the boys into bed...

Him: Its already the second week of vacation.

Dad: Yep, it is.

Him: Probably means it's time to start doing something fun now.

Dad: Really? Like what?

Him: Mayve we could go on a trip...like to the UK?

Lol!

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Me: "Woohoo, guys! Today is the last Monday of the school year! Pretty soon will be summer vacation!"

Him: "Mom, that makes me really sad. I wish you wouldn't talk about it."

Me: "What do you mean? Aren't you excited for summer?"

Him: "Not really. I'm going to miss (my teacher) and my friends... It will be nice to sleep in, though. Summer is good for that."

Ha! The kid is definitely mine. :)

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

Scene: He's in the shower

Him: "Mom, I want you to make the water cold. I want COLD water in my shower."

Me: "I don't think you want that, kiddo."

Him: "Yes I do. Please, will you make it cold?"

Me: "Really, Shawn, You aren't going to like that, but okay..."

Him: "Uh...Quick! Could you turn it off?!"

Me: "Okie dokie. I told you."

Lol. He lasted about two seconds in the cold water. ;)
