Our First Pinterest Project

This week we had a few moments of unoccupied time, so I thought we'd try our first Pinterest activity.

I got three medium sized bags and put a bit of finger paint in each of them.

Hm. What's this?

Yeah, I think I'm done. You can take it now.

Fine. I touched it. Is this what you wanted?
Sigh. Jason was not exactly impressed. I had better luck with the littlest one.

What's this, mommy?

This is fun!

Oh, hey. Look! I can take this thing off of here and eat the bag...
That promptly ended Jack's session. I must tape the bag down with stronger, more Jack proof tape next time we try this. Maybe duct tape would work? lol. He did think it was fun for quite a while.

Shawn was the one that had the best time with this project. He liked moving the paint around and mixing the colors. We did minimal letter writing, because duh...mixing colors was waaaaaay more fun that writing. Silly mommy.

Hey! What's this? This is kind of cool!

Blue and yellow makes green. See?

Blue and red are supposed to make purple.
Momma, why doesn't this look like purple?

All in all, anytime I can get more than one kid to like something, I call it a success. It was quick, easy, and did manage to make a little down time more productive than it might have been otherwise. :-)

17 Months Old!

17 months old

Weight: I forgot to weigh him. Oops.

Length: Bigger than 34 inches tall (I forgot to get his length too. Oops again!)

Wearing: size 5 Huggies diapers (with the overnight diapers at bedtime), 18 month pants, 24 month shirts. He is able to comfortably wear size 24 sleepers.
Feedings: Jack drinks 20ish ounces of milk a day. He also steals the big boys' juice whenever he can. :) Waffles and fruit are still big in his book. He is still pretty picky about what he will allow to pass his lips, but we are slowly expanding his food selection. The operative word, however, is slowly.

Favorites: Jack loves his cars almost as much as the big boys do! Balls and anything he can push or roll is high on his list of likes. He is also a fan of pushing any/all buttons.

Least Favorites: Not getting his way or being told no. He doesn't like for me to use my stern voice--it always makes him cry.

Issues: Jack is still not walking on his own, although he is so close! (He has the whole one finger walk down pat.) I don't know if it is because of him seeing that his brothers are not walking a lot, or whether it is just his personality that is holding him back. It is clear that he has the mechanics of it down.

Personality: Jack is still pretty high energy. He's always on the go, go, GO! He is also getting shy around new people and experiences.

Areas to work on: Jack needs to work on his patience. lol! He also needs to start mastering the whole walking thing. Mommy's back is getting sore. ;-)

New Things: Jack is not much of a talker unless he really wants to, but he does have approximately 8 words and 2 signs.
Randomness: Jack is now of the opinion that higher is better. He climbs everything! Jeez.

Some things Jack is expected to do: (milestones for seventeen months)

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
  • Uses six words regularly - Yes.
  • Enjoys pretend games - Yes.
  • Likes riding toys - Yes. He even likes to ride a skateboard that grandma has at his house.
Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
  • Feeds doll - Yes he's starting to feed his little Jack rattle.
  • Speaks more clearly - Yes.
  • Throws a ball underhand - Hm. I'm not sure about this one. If he isn't, he's pretty close to doing this.
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
  • Dances to music - I'd say it is starting, especially when the big boys are.
  • Sorts toys by color, shape, or size - not exactly. He is doing a shape sorter, but I don't know if that is what they are asking here.
  • Kicks ball forward - Um, no.

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - The Race

This works best if you scroll through the pictures quickly...

On your mark...get set...GO!

Wait Jack, that was a false start...

Don't worry dad, I'll catch him!

Hey, Shawn! We said, "GO!"

Jack's telling them to eat his dust!

He's almost to the finish line. You two big boys better
hurry up!

Getting close, Jay!
Um, Shawn? "GO!"

And the winner is Jack! You were so close, Jay!

Summer Bucket List 2012 - The Park

We went to the park this weekend. It was so much fun! Look at our guys...

He is getting so good at climbing up slides!

Loving the swing.

Shawn standing with his daddy watching the cars go by.

Smelling a dandelion.

Mommy and Jack walking to the park.

Making a wish on a dandelion.

Jason has already made me put a check on the calendar for the next time we can go back!

Picking Berries at the Farm

Earlier in the month, we went to one of our local farms and picked some berries and veggies. The boys LOVED it! (Well, I guess I should say the big boys loved it. Jack put himself back into the stroller and went to sleep for most of it. lol. It was his nap time after all.)

Jack was awake for a tiny bit. He's checking out some flowers.

And he tried a fresh yellow green bean.

Then he spit out and threw a fresh yellow green bean. :-)

Jason showing off the first fruits of his labor.

He's perfecting his picking here.

Once he got started, he was hooked on this whole picking business!

Shawn is getting his berry picking bag ready...

But instead found the joy of "picking up" dirt and
wearing it.

Who needs berries?
Wanna try some?

Oh, Shawn does! Eating a strawberry.

Jason fully enjoyed his strawberry.

See? Told you he slept. lol.

Shawn and daddy picking raspberries.
Notice all the juice on his face!

We couldn't get him to pick them for his basket;
they just kept going straight into his mouth.

Jason was at least adding a few into the basket while he ate.

He's working hard, this one.
This is what he did for the last hour of our trip.

It was a fun day, one they've talked about several times since. Berry picking is definitely going on to next year's Summer Bucket list!

Sunday Six

Six moments from the week that I want to remember...

  1. Sometimes, Jack needs a little "encouragement" to try his food, so if he refuses to try something, I put a little in his mouth so he can at least taste it. (This method has about a 50% success rate, in case you're wondering.) Anyway, I gave him a bit of food to try while telling him how good it was and using lots of "mmm's." He looked me straight in the eye, shook his head no, and told me "Yuck!" After I picked my jaw up off the floor, it cracked me up. Looks like I have another food critic on my hands!
  2. Jason loves his newest joke: "What do you tell a cow on his birthday? Happy Birthday to MOO!" He laughs hysterically every time. If he tells you, you better too. Just saying.
  3. Shawn has a new favorite show, which sounds so cute when he says it! Could you tell the characters on the show are British? :-)
  4. Shawn is starting to embrace his big brother role and knows just how to push Jason's buttons. (If Jason says something, Shawn immediately says the opposite. Drives Jason batty!) He's a minute older, and he takes every opportunity to remind his younger brother of that fact. lol.
  5. Jason has put himself into time out in his bedroom two times this week. He comes out saying, "Ok. I'm calm now. I'm ready to say 'sorry'." And he does! I think this new development is AWESOME, let me tell you. There are plenty of adults who haven't mastered this skill, and my boy's done it at 4!
  6.  Jack's just starting to give me "high fives" as a way of celebrating. LOVE it!
