Cute Big Boy Saturday

I gave Jack a haircut this week.

Mid way through his cut...can you tell the difference
between the cut side and the not yet cut side?

It was time. lol

Friday Five

We're falling into a new schedule as we transition out of "school" and into summer mode. The boys each picked chores to do each day, which range from cleaning rooms, dusting, window washing, to dishes. They also get to read each day for 20 minutes. Once those things are done and we've had lunch, they get to have some iPad time.

For Shawn, playing the iPad involves watching Disney+. He is in to the Disney animal documentaries. He still likes to do his walks around the neighborhood, too.

Jack generally splits his time between Minecraft and Disney+, but he's also very into going out to swim in the pool. He sees nothing wrong with swimming while he shakes and teeth chatter from the cold. Crazy kid.

Jason is all about Minecraft and voice chatting with his buddies. They're also creating a sort of dystopian story, so I hear them chatting about various (seemingly random) topics they're using for their story.

~~~
We got official word from the boys' school district about next school year. Their start date is August 19. As of now, they will go to school 2 days a week with the other 3 days being virtual learning activities (at home). There is also going to be a 100% virtual learning option. There hasn't been more detailed information than that, so we haven't yet made up our minds about which option we might choose.
~~~

Our little garden continues to do its thing! We now have flowers on our snow peas. Yay! We're excited to pick some peas!

~~~
Jason's teacher just came to the house this week and dropped off a goody bag for him. She brought one for Shawn, too, even though she doesn't have him. ðŸ’œ
Made Jason’s day!
~~~

Jason was complaining that his shoes were bugging him. Now we can see why. His shoes are a men’s size 9...his foot is a men’s size 10.5 EE!

Shawn's feet are nearing a size 7.

Jack's feet are a 5!

New shoes for everyone. LOL

First Harvest!

We had our first harvest! Actually, they sort of harvested themselves because they were sitting on top of the ground when I found them. lol

They were "too spicy" for Jack, but Jason and I enjoyed them. :)

Mostly Wordless Wednesday

"I wish I was a butterfly," he says after we watched a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis. So, his dad fixed him up. ;)

Jack's chrysalis

After he "emerged" he ran around the living room "flying." LOL

Friday Five

Today was my last day of school. Team Lopez is now all out of school for the summer. Whoot! Whoot!

~~~
Yesterday, Jack's school had a parade for all of the students. The teachers and staff were all out in front of the school, and all of the families drove through saying goodbye to their teachers. Jack and Jason went with dad to do the parade. They had so much fun! I'm glad they got the chance to say goodbye to everyone in person.
~~~

While the other two were at the parade, Shawn and I took a stroll around the neighborhood. Shawn LOVES to walk around our neighborhood. I sort of tease him and tell him he's like a little old man. He stops and admires everything...and I do mean everything! Look at that plane, mom. Do you see the bird, mom? Is that poop on the ground? EW! Can we find some pine cones? What do you think those people doing, mom? He is talking the entire time. It's so cute.

~~~
We finally went out and purchased a new couch and love seat this week. It appears that all of this staying home due to quarantine was enough to finally push our furniture over the edge. They had a good run, though. I got them before we got married!
Now we just have to wait for them to come in and get delivered.
~~~

California now requires masks for indoor public spaces. Here is Shawn practicing...

He says he's ready for Target now. lol

Memory...

Conversations with 5 year olds:

June 16, 2013
Shawn: Mom, Jason hit me.
Me: Boys, knock it off and eat.
Jason: Hey, wait a minute. You're trying to make me hit you so I get into trouble!
Shawn: (wicked laugh)

Friday Five

Well, the boys' official last day of school is next week, but they have now completed all of their assignments and submitted them. What a relief! We are all glad to put homework/school work behind us for a bit. :)

~~~
Schooling itself for our crew has looked nothing like what you would traditionally expect, but I think that the boys did REALLY well overall during this time. Yes, they missed seeing their friends, but I do think they liked being able to create their own learning schedules. Usually, that meant we worked in the afternoon, rather than the morning. I also think that Shawn and Jack did really well with a more one on one approach at home. Jason learned some good self-management strategies, which is nice. While I hate that it took a pandemic for us to get a chance to explore learning at home/homeschooling, I am thankful for the chance to try it out. We all learned some valuable things.
~~~

Our yearly end of the school year tradition has been for the boys to pick out a toy from Toys R Us Target ... well, this year it will be online. This is going to be their first foray in the whole online shopping thing. I hope they don't like it too much. I'm not sure we can afford them AND me shopping online!

~~~
This week has been unseasonably warm. We've also had Santa Ana winds. This combination has made horrible conditions for fires (we've had two near us this week), but it's also made wonderful conditions for spending the afternoon in the pool. The boys have been in heaven. "Can we go in the pool?" is Jack's daily first request. lol
~~~

Jason's favorite thing about this time of social distancing: "More time to play video games, especially Roblox."

Jack's favorite thing about this time of social distancing: "I liked going outside into the pool."

Shawn's favorite thing about this time of social distancing: "I don't know," was his first response. He settled on Disney+ being his favorite thing about this time.

These Two

When they're not driving each other crazy (and us crazy with their fighting), they're actually quite cute together. :)

So Close!

We're getting so close...

Jason has completed all his work for the year. He was worried there for a bit because he had several assignments all due at the same time. He worked through them and got them done. He has calmed down and is feeling accomplished and proud of himself.

Jack's last work was emailed to his teacher yesterday. He needs to draw a picture of a penguin and do a video read of his last essay by Friday. He's still practicing his reading, so we'll likely do that tomorrow.

Shawn has 3 chapters of a book to read (Call of the Wild) and a book report on said book. He finished an essay on the difference between turtles and tortoises this afternoon. (Turtles are better, he's decided.)

We're almost to the end. Can’t wait!!

Swimming

He finally got into the pool...

It's safe to say he enjoyed himself!
