7 Months Old!

Caption It Sunday will not air this week due to Jack turning 7 months old today! Whoot!

7 months old or 30 weeks and 4 days old.

Weight:  Scale issues tonight! Note to self: Don't leave batteries in something for 4 years without changing them. Working on fixing the scale for tomorrow. (between the ___ percentile)

Length:  Big boy is 30 1/4 inches long. (97th percentile)

Wearing: size 3 Huggies diapers and 12 month clothes.

Feedings: Jack 5-7 ounces of formula a feeding 5 times a day for a total of approximately 28-32ish ounces a day. He's still eating solids twice a day, but I think we'll be adding another meal in there sometime soon. The boy likes his food.

Favorites: Jack still enjoys his previous favorites, but he has added a few new toys to the list. Lol. He loves to sit in his highchair and play with his toys while I am in the kitchen. He recently got his own stacking rings on which to gnaw and play. He is also a big fan of the scream! Good grief the boy has a set of lungs on him.

Least Favorites: Jack still doesn't like to be left alone. We have also discovered that he is not a fan of baby Tylenol--we get the whole show with gagging and all. (Drama king.)

Issues: He is starting to be selective about who he wants to hold him. There does seem to be a pecking order of preference. There is also the whole teething issue he's battling right now. Oh, and the screaming! an issue for everyone else around him.

Personality: Jack loves to be the center of attention. He loves to laugh and watch his big brothers play. He also loves the television a bit too much and will twist and turn his body until he can see it. Sigh.

Areas to work on: He's getting really good at his sitting, but he still has much to learn about gravity and density. Hey, Jack. When you fling yourself back, you're not going to float. Oh, no. You're gonna hit the very hard floor. Every. Time. Eh, what can you expect? He hasn't taken his 8th grade science yet.

New Things: Finally, the rolling over has begun in earnest (like I said, he could do it, but it wasn't frequent). He is now rolling himself over in his crib regularly. He continues to practice and perfect his mad sitting skillz. This last week, he cut three more teeth (making a total of 5). There still seem to be 2 or so more just about ready to come through, too. He has started drinking from a sippy cup. He loves it. And this  weekend, he finally started saying "mama." :-)
Randomness: Jack has already set his sights on my phone. I am in trouble!

---

Some things Jack is expected to do: (milestones for seven months)

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)

  • Sits without support (Yes. He does better if he has something to do while he is sitting. My guess is that he can sit for at least 5 minutes when he is occupied. Otherwise, see the "Areas to work on" section above.)
  • Drags objects toward himself (Yes. He has perfected his raking grasp and is starting to work on his pincer grasping.)

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

  • Lunges forward or starts crawling (He does not get up on all fours as of now; however, he does push himself forward on his belly to get things he wants. He can also pivot himself around to select toys.)
  • Jabbers or combines syllables (Yep. He's pretty chatty.)
  • Starts to experience stranger anxiety (Yep. He's mastered this milestone a while ago. Ahem.)

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

  • Waves goodbye (No. Haven't tried to work on it, either.)
  • Stands while holding onto something (Sort of. He can stand holding on to my hands, but he doesn't last long.)
  • Bangs objects together (Hm. He bangs objects on the floor and tray, but I don't think I've seen him bang two things together yet.)
  • Begins to understand object permanence (I do believe he is doing some of this. He knows I am still there if he covers his face. He sometimes "looks" for certain things in his play area.)

Cute Baby Saturday - Time Outside

Yay for warm weather and beautiful days!

What 'cha got, Shawn?

A lemon!

Mmm...no wait. It tastes yucky!

But I like it anyway.

What 'cha doing, Jay?

I'm taking pictures...

No wait. I'm sliding down the slide!
(Did you notice the death grip on Isaac's shirt?)

Naw...I'm hanging with my little bro.

What 'cha doing, Jack?

I'm playing with my toy and sitting up like a big boy!

This sitting stuff is toooooo easy. Lol.

Fun times!

Partying Hard

The boys' party told through pictures...

A boy could get used to...

...this partying business!

Tonight's family par-tay! The boys got lots of fun things. :-)

But first we got to blow out more candles.

Not everyone thought they needed to repeat last night's performance, though.

Jay got some blocks from grandma!

Shawn got a CD player!

Jason was in love with his new car wash toy.
It has bubbles and everything.

Shawn got a barn and some horses.

A car transporter!

Time for cake! Mmmm....
White frosting for Jay.

Chocolate frosting for Shawn.
Both boys got more rainbow cake to eat!

"Mommy, what's tomorrow?"

Just a regular day.

"What are we going to do?"

Hm. Play with all of your new toys.

"Oh." Sigh.

And that my friends, is what they call a birthday wrap. :-)

And Then They Were 4...

You know they've had a good day when you hear things like:

Did you like your cupcakes?

"Yes, but I can't have anymore cake."

But you can have some tomorrow.

"No!" (dramatically turns head away) "I can't because I'm toooooo full."

---

"I gotta go find me some presents." (They only got three small gifts from mommy and daddy today.)

---

‎"Mommy...I had the most wonderfulest birthday."
"Me too!"
And with that, they both rolled over and went to sleep. :-)

---

Shawn figures he should just pinch the flame rather than blow it out...
He did try, though. Lol.

Now Jason blew until he nearly passed out!

The best part of the whole thing. Mmmm...cupcakes!

Num, num, num...

Jack thought he'd take a bite, too!
Mommy was mean and pulled it away at the last minute. :-(

More presents!

Off with the ribbon...

Is it a hat?

Yeah a present!

Present unwrapping is serious business, y'all.

What is it?

Um...I don't know. What is it, mommy?

Oh, wow! It's a game! (Tangrams)

Shawn, you're too slow. Let me help you!

Hey, I got a game, too!

---

They really did have a fantastic day. It was so fun to watch their faces light up when we'd add in another surprise. I think this day will be one they talk about for a long time!

And that makes my heart super happy. :-)
