11 Months Old!

11 months old (48 weeks old)

Weight: Jack weighs 24.2 pounds by our scale (76th %ile for weight)

Length: 32 inches long - he wasn't having us holding him down to measure him (at the 97th %ile for height)

Wearing: size 4 Huggies diapers, 18 month pants (has my long legs!), 12 month onesies (the arms are a bit short, but the body is the right length) and 18 month sleepers.

Feedings: Jack still drinks 5-7 ounces of formula a feeding 5 times a day for a total of approximately 30ish ounces a day. I am still working on transitioning him to table food, but he seems to prefer the pureed food (stage 3) best right now. He does not like "wet" finger food, but tolerates "dry" finger food just fine. I should add that he tolerates dry food fine when he wants whatever it is.

Favorites: Jack loves to chase things around the house. He likes to flick or toss his toys in front of him and then crawl after them. It's pretty funny to watch.

Least Favorites: Jack does not like to be told "No." Also, as I said before, he doesn't care for wet foods.

Issues: Other than the teething, he seems to be doing just fine. :-)
Personality: Jack is still fairly easy going and happy. He's quick to laugh at silly things, especially when he hears the big boys laugh. He's still pretty social and wants to be in the middle of the action--he'll even "talk" to the television!

Areas to work on: Jack still isn't crawling up on all fours in a traditional way. He does manage to get his belly off the floor and does reciprocate arms and legs, though. He makes it work.

New Things: Let's see. He's pulling up to stand and has tentatively started to cruise. He has also found his crib railing and has started gnawing on that. He has started to do a tiny bit of standing as well. The "talking" to the television is new, too.

Randomness: One thing that Jack does that warms my heart is that he heads straight for me when he sees me after work and says cries hollers "momma" until I pick him up. Aw...

---

Some things Jack is expected to do: (milestones for eleven months)

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
  • Says "mama" or "dada" to the correct parent (Yes to both)
  • Plays patty-cake and peek-a-boo (Yes - Can play peek-a-boo)
  • Stands alone for a couple of seconds (Yes - just started within the last few days)
  • Cruises (Yes - We've now seen a few steps while holding on to the couch, again within the last few days)
Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
  • Understands "no" and simple instructions (Yes - He clearly understands no. When you tell him to give you a toy and he pulls it back and frowns, my guess is that he understands that, too. He also clearly understands "come here" and a few others.)
  • Puts objects into a container (Yes - He does put his pop beads into the container. I haven't given him an opportunity to do this task with anything small than that!)
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
  • Says one word besides "mama" or "dada" (Not unless screaming counts)
  • Stoops from standing position (Not really yet. He does like to jump, though!)

Kidbits: Our Life in a Series of Face Book Updates... Part 14

Jason is insisting that he needs petrol for his cars and not gas.

I am on FIRE tonight! Just had the little people rolling hysterically simply by saying the word "brush." Took them a good twenty minutes to finally stop laughing about it. Lol.

All of the commercials are seriously blowing the boys' minds. They haven't really seen commercials before! Just spent five minutes trying to explain who that baby on television was.

While watching the AAs: "Wow. She looks like a cupcake with sprinkles!"

I think that meant he liked her outfit.

Well, the boys are on the mend. All still snotty, but on the mend. I've now reached a point where I might be able to keep food down. Yea!

Day 2 at home from work for me. No school for the boys this week. Thank goodness my mom and isaac are well and can watch the boys while I recover!

Well, he's no longer blissfully ignorant. Sigh. 3rd man down.

Here's hoping this crud is fast moving and that I escape its clutches!

Oh joy. Our house now holds: 2 fevers + 1 stuffy nose and 1 blissfully ignorant time bomb with far too much extra energy.

It must be Monday.

February 20 at 12:30pm

---

Well that didn't go as planned. The fairy tale version of Bubble Guppies scared the crap out of my boys! Now I hope that this won't cause nightmares. Sigh. They may never look at bubbles the same again...

"If you were my age, and I was your age, then we could be married. Wouldn't that be fun?"

Already wanting to marry mom. I think my heart just melted again...

Shawn just made some noises so I went in to check on him. He was awake. Before I could leave he tells me,

S:I need just one more thing before I go to sleep.
M: What's that, buddy?
S: I need to give you tea...

And then he had to give me ten glasses of tea before he would let me leave. The kid cracks me up. (It's a good thing, too, because he was being a turd earlier this evening.)

In ER with Shawn. Heading to Children's once they call and let them know we're coming and give us some scan images. Good thoughts and prayers greatly appreciated...

Told the boys they could get up when their CD stopped playing. I may have accidentally set the player on continuous repeat. Oopsie! I might be feeling a tiny bit guilty...

My lip = 0

It should look especially cute in our pictures this week...

During quiet time today...

J: Shawn, where are you going on your field trip?
S: Um...I'm um...I'm going camping.
J: You should go camping. That sounds like fun! Can I come?

Then they both dissolve into a fit of giggles.

These boys crack me up. :-)

Dare I say it? He didn't ask for the paci tonight. (He did this afternoon but not tonight.) The farthest he would go is, "I think I forgot something..." I'd just sort of cut him off before he could get to the end of that thought.

Hallelujah!

Jason thinks I'm buying the story he told me. Sure, Jason. That candy cane fell off the tree and into your mouth without you doing a thing. Sure. I believe you. :-/

"I want my paci, mommy."

"You lost it, buddy."
"Oh, I'm sorry, mommy...I don't know what to doooooooo, I don't know what to doooooooo!"

Cue the mommy guilt. I'm pretty hard core when it comes to doing what needs to be done, but taking away this stupid paci stuff is hurting my heart!

January 1 at 5:43pm

Only took him two hours to go to sleep tonight without the paci, but he did it! Here's hoping tomorrow goes just as well.

Day 2 of "Justpeeonthepottyandnotinyourpantsforheaven'ssake" has been a success. 2 accidents yesterday. 1 accident this morning (didn't get to the potty in time after waking up). I anticipate an even better day tomorrow!

And for giggles, today is Day 1 of "Idon'tknowwhereyourpaciis, youmusthavelostitsogotosleepwithoutit." This should make for a fun experience. (Don't judge. Everyone has a vice or two. Ahem.)

He's 9 months old today! This is the last of the single digits...

It's too fast!

The boys are in the backyard. A squirrel is threatening my middle child. (It has the nerve to be in our tree!) The boys are scared. Of a squirrel. Sigh.

Mind you the squirrel is not anywhere near them! Or looking at them! Or cares about them at all. Double sigh.

All the signs are pointing to the littlest boy cutting a molar. Today has not been a good day for him. Poor guy. :(

This picture definitely needs a cute caption.

Any ideas? Write a caption for the picture and leave your suggestions in the comments below. (Don't forget to leave your name, too!)

10 extra credit points and bragging rights to the best one!

Back Story: Jack loves to chew on the drawstrings of my sweatshirts/jackets. He was chewing on my strings, but I had to put him down to go chase after the dynamic duo. When I returned, I found him like this...

Chewing on momma's shoestrings.
Of course I had to take a picture before I took the shoe away! lol. It cracks me up when I look at this one.

Cute Baby Saturday - A Few Pictures from the Week

Shawn talking to grandma on the phone.
This boy LOVES the phone.

Jason's reading the cereal box.
I used to do the same thing!

Gangsta Jack attacking his car.
Still rocking his 'tude. :-)

The Sick is still here, but we are definitely on the upswing!

Mud

There's nothing better than playing outside in the mud, right? lol.

Jason is a huge fan of anything "dirt" in general, but he is even wilder about playing in wet dirt. This was Jay a few days ago...

Adding mud to the bulldozer

The bulldozer just dumped its load into the dump truck

The dump truck now takes the load to the landfill

And drops it!
He and daddy had fun filling and dumping his trucks for over an hour! They both had a lot of fun.

Hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as the Sick goes...

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - In the Middle of the Sick

So it seems you can only dodge the Sick for so long when you are surrounded by little people who for some reason become greatly fascinated by your mouth, nose, and eyes when their hands are covered in germs. (I swear if one more kid pokes me in the eye with a slimy hand, I am going to lose it.)

Sigh.

Anywho, I am feeling a bit under the weather (Please let this be fast moving crud.) and not really into the whole creative blogging thing tonight. I've got a pillow calling my name. Thank goodness for Mostly Wordless Wednesday.

I leave you with a picture taken about 12 hours before our sweet children were overtaken by the cranky, snotty, "I want you to hold me! NO!!! Get away from me NOW!" boys they are now.

So serene...I miss those times. Ahem.

If Shawn's any indication, it looks like whatever this is gives you one good night of feeling really crappy followed by a few days of only feeling mildly crappy. I find that knowledge comforting somehow. Maybe this will be a fast moving crud after all.

A girl can hope.

Weekend Fun

Well, it seems that another round of the plague has found Casa Lopez. It started yesterday with fevers for Shawn and Jack. Today after nap, Jason decided to join the germ fest.

Good times for sure. Not.

So tonight I'm focusing on happier times--this weekend. The boys had a lot of fun outside, soaking up the beautiful sun...

Shawn checking out a cool leaf

Jason playing cars in the dirt

Jack playing with his pop beads
(I'm mean and won't let him in the dirt just yet.)

Daddy and Shawn getting ready to practice walking

Jason's turn to practice

Jack's just chillin' on the blanket, watching all the activity

Daddy and Shawn posing for the camera

Jay got a little too close to that dirt...

I'ma gonna get 'cha, mommy!

More Conversations With 4 Year Olds

Me: Shawn.
S: ...
Me: Shawn!
S: I don't like Shawn any more!
Me: Oh. So what do you want to be called then?
S after only skipping a beat: Call me Tooth Fairy.

Um, ok. Whatever floats your boat, little man. And no, he did not answer to "Tooth Fairy" when I called him that a few minutes later.

---

J: When I grow up, I want to be a fireman and a policeman.
Isaac: Wow, that's great, buddy.
J: I want to be a fireman and a policeman...
J: and a witch!

I imagine that adding "witch" on the old resume will make you a top choice when applying for those jobs. Lol.

---

Shawn's been feeling pretty awful today. He didn't want much to eat or drink. By dinner, we were willing to give him whatever he suggested...

Isaac: Do you want some milk?
S: No.
Isaac: How about chocolate milk?
S: No.
Isaac: Do you want some apple juice?
S with a sly look on his face: Yeeesss. I want some apple juice...
S: In your caboose!

After which he and his brother dissolved into a fit of laughter. Sigh.

Caption It Sunday - Another Rerun

I have to post this one again...no one came up with a caption for last week! Come on, everyone. Surely someone can come up with something good for this picture! :-)

---

This picture definitely needs a cute caption.

Any ideas? Write a caption for the picture and leave your suggestions in the comments below. (Don't forget to leave your name, too!)

10 extra credit points and bragging rights to the best one!

Back story: This is another picture taken by the amazing Kym on our photo shoot. The boys are on a bridge trying as hard as they can to fill a hole they found. As they kept throwing dirt into the hole, the dirt kept sliding down the side of the hill into the ditch below. I think they would have stayed at this hole for the entire day had we let them...

Now put on those thinking caps and come up with something clever!

Cute Baby Saturday - Concentration

I love watching the boys' faces as they do different things. I often try to figure out where the face came from--Isaac or myself.

Sometimes it's easy. Take these looks of concentration for instance:

Reading his magazine
As much as I hate to admit it, this look is all me. I still catch myself sticking out the tongue when deep in thought. Lol.

Jason's face--the bottom lip pushed out ever so slightly, the eyebrows slightly raised on the outside edges--is classic Isaac here.

Jason changing his Transformer from car to robot

But then there is Jack. I see flashes of all of us in his sweet face. There's a tongue flick and a furrowed brow, lips pursed then extended, all in a matter of seconds.

Jack investigating his pop beads

Kids make the best facial expressions. Seriously. They do. :-)

Reminiscing

Every now and then I pick a day and go back through the thousands tens of thousands of pictures I have, all organized by date because I am anal like that, and reminisce.
If I am honest, there's a bit of sadness there as I look, although I think the sharp edges of those feelings have dulled. Thinking of that time still blows my mind. I suppose it isn't really a surprise for me to admit that those days were pretty tough. So much so that sometimes I am amazed we made it.

Yet we did.

We are doing it.

We will continue to do incredible things. In my humble opinion, my family is pretty awesome, and we are nothing if not a determined bunch. (So look out world. We will CONQUER you!)

I am grateful I captured so many moments of those early days. I remember a lot, yet at the same time, I have forgotten so much of it, too. I never want to lose those memories, that silliness, the fun, or the regular day to day living that can easily slip from our minds. The photos and videos bring everything back.

But most importantly, these pictures fill my heart with such pride. They remind me where my boys were...which highlights just how far they've come, accomplishments that promise so much more in the future...

I look at the images and can't help but smile. I mean come on, my boys were are pretty dang cute, how can I not smile at those beautiful faces?

Shawn - February 17, 2009

Jason - February 17, 2009

Oh how I love these boys--it really does take my breath away.

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Pointer Finger

Mommy, let me see your finger. I'ma gonna touch it.

Whoa. This is harder than it looks. I have to concentrate
very, very hard.

Hm. Maybe it is easier with this finger.
What's the big deal? Psshh, this is easy.

I'm done now!
