Conversations With 7 Year Olds

When I went into his room to tuck Jack in bed last night, he made this big, obnoxious snorting sound...

Me: "What? That's how you greet me now?"

Him: "Nope. That's my "love" sound."

Omg. I just about died laughing. I wonder if he'll keep this "love sound" for his future spouse someday!

Overheard - Conversations With 7 Year Old

This conversation was overheard yesterday, and it still makes me chuckle...

Isaac and Jack were in the kitchen playing games. First up was the game Giggle Wiggle. Then it was the game Pop the Pig.

Jack: I want to play something else.
Isaac: okay, what would you like to play?
Jack: hm...let's play...I know! Let's play chess!

Somehow, I get the feeling Isaac was just hustled! Ha!

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

Me: How many gummy bears do you want?
Jack: Te...twelve! (Normally he gets ten.)
Me: (After putting 8 gummies on the table) How many more do you need to get to 12?
Him: (counting) One...two...three...four....
Him: ...
Me: ...
Him: 8!
Lol. I think he is trying to swindle me!

Perspective

We've been watching a lot of new Halloween movies this month. Today we were watching The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Jason: Oh man. They've ruined Christmas with all of this stuff they're doing!

Jack: It (Christmas) isn't ruined. It's never ruined.

Yep, kiddo. I have to agree that pretty much sums up the world. It's all about perspective!

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

He came out of his room holding his iPad out in front of him.

"Mom," he cried pitifully. "My wee fee isn't working."

I had to laugh...he meant wifi.

Overheard...

During dinner, Isaac passed Jack something...

Jack: (to Isaac) Why thank you old man.

Jason: (laughing) Did you hear that he called you...

Isaac: ...

Jason: ...um...he called you "wise"?

Interior Designing

There was a commercial on television about painting. I asked the boys what color they would paint their rooms if they could choose whatever color they wanted.

Shawn's answer was pretty immediate. "Bllllaaaack."

Jack's answer took a little longer, but he decided green was the way to go.

Jason's answer cracked me up. "Well, I think I would want one wall that was more like a maroon color. The other walls would be white."

I think my constant watching of DIY television is wearing off on him!

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

Him: "Mom! Did you know we have venomous sea snakes at the beach now?"

Me: "Yes, I did know that. I saw it on the news."

Him: "What?! Why didn't you tell me about this?" (Loud sigh) "You never tell me the good stuff, mom!"

~~~
It seems that the preteen exasperation with parents has hit a bit early. Yay.
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
Him: "I really like Minecraft, but sometimes it gets lonely.  You can do all kinds of stuff, but I'd like it better if I wasn't all alone.
It's just me......and my bow."
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
Him: "Mom, we're going to get to do maps at school."
Me: "What do you mean? You're going to draw maps?"
Him: "No, we get to learn how to read them!"
Me: "Wow! That sounds like a lot of fun!"
Him (nodding knowingly): "It is going to be a lot of fun."
Other him: "Um, mom? Why is maps going to be fun?"
Me: "Well, because you get to learn something new."
Other him: "Humph. I don't think that sounds like fun at all."
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
"If I ever open a restaurant, I'm going to put this meal on the menu. Chicken, blueberries, tortilla chips and cheese are the best meal ever."
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
I left the oldest in the bathroom to give him a chance to do his business...
Me: Are you done, yet?
Him: (Sigh) Not yet, mom. Can you just gimme a little peace?
Lol! You cannot rush these things. I forgot! ;)
When You Were My Age...
The boys' social studies work this week is to ask one of their parents (in this case, mom) questions about how things were when they were young and compare the answers to their own lives. They then are creating a booklet of what they learn. I've added a bit of commentary to some of the answers because I want to remember these silly boys just the way they were. :)
~~~

#1. Where did (do) you live and what kind of home did (do) you have?
Me: My mom lived in *insert city where I lived* in a ranch style home.
Jason: I live in *insert our current city* in a ranch style home.
Shawn: I live at home in *insert current city*.

#2 What was (is) your favorite book?
Me: My mom's favorite book was Where the Red Fern Grows.
Jason: The Book with No Pictures.
Shawn: Green Eggs and Ham

#3 How did you get to the grocery story and home again?
Me: My mom went by car. (After which I was asked, "Mom, there were cars when you were little?")
Jason: by car
Shawn: We drive.

#4 What did (do) you do for fun?
Me: My mom played outside.
Jason: I play outside.
Shawn: I water the plants.

#5. What kind of music did (do) you listen to?
Me: My mom listened to 90's music.
Jason: Tayler Swift (his spelling)
Shawn: Rock and Roll

#6. What did (do) you wear to school?
Me: My mom wore clothes. ("Look, mom. I almost wrote 'cloths' instead of 'clothes.' That would be funny if you just wore cloths, mom.")
Jason: clothes
Shawn: shoes and socks (That was all he'd say, too. I tried to point out that he probably wear more than just shoes and socks, but he looked at me like I was an idiot. Shoes and socks it was. Ahem.)

#7. If you had (have) a television, what was (is) your favorite show?
Me: My mom's favorite show is Scoobe Doo. (their spelling)
Jason: Tom & Jarry. (even with the ampersand!)
Shawn: I like Yo Gabba Gabba and Team UmiZoomi.

#8 What kind of phone did (do) you have?
Me: My mom had a cordless phone.
Jason: We have a cell phone.
Shawn: We have a sell phone. (What is this we business?)

Conversations With 7 Year Olds

He found a snack sized sandwich bag and blew in it...

Him: It's a bag of air! Look, mom, a bag of air.

Me: Oh wow. What are you going to do with a bag of air?

Him: I dunno. Collect it? I'm going to need a lot more baggies if I'm going to collect air.

Me: Why would you want to collect air?

Him: I collect things, mom. That's what I do.

~~~
So there you go. I imagine it makes perfect sense inside that head of his. ;)
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
Me: "I don't need you trying to tell everyone what to do. Last time I checked, I'm the oldest one in the family. That's my job."
Him: "Nuh uh. Dad's the oldest."
Me: "Nope. I'm older than daddy."
Him: "But you're not even taller than him!"
Me: "Being tall doesn't mean a person is older. You're taller than Shawn, but he's older than you."
Him: "humph. I really should be older, though."
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
I was sitting in the living room when he called, "Mom, I found a cookie and I ate it."
Considering we haDn't had cookies for several days, he either 1) found an old cookie on the ground while he was playing in the pantry, or 2) he ate something off the floor that he assumed was a cookie.
Both scenarios grossed me out. There WAS no telling how long that "cookie" had been in there...and I don't even want to think about what it could have been if it wasn't actually a cookie. Ewwwww. LOL
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
To be fair, his father had just upset him by not allowing him to do what he wanted:
"Mom, I love you more than cars, even more than a Ferrari! Dad...I love you more than a....um, a Volkswagen. Yeah. I love you more than a Volkswagen."
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
Him1: "You're going to work at my school tomorrow?"
Me: "No, I'm going to go to my school, and you guys are going to your school."
Him2: "I wish you would work at my school."
Me: "Aww, you do?"
Him2: "Yeah."
Me: "Well, that's really nice. Why do you wish I worked at your school?"
Him2: "I think maybe you'd be nicer about homework if you did."
Me: "..."
So much for that heart warming moment. Lol. Besides, I hate to tell him, but I probably wouldn't be! ;)
Conversations With 7 Year Olds
"Mom, did you know that my feet are like a cooler? When I get hot, I just stick them out of my blanket and I cool down! Just like that!"
Lol. He's just like his mom, too. :)
