Doing Our Part

Keeping themselves and others healthy. I'm so proud of both of them!

We went to CVS to get their vaccines. Jack also went and was THRILLED that a store was open. lol. We may no longer be able to say we can't go to stores because they are all close. Darn. LOL

They each got to pick out a little something from the store as a bonus, too. :)

Now This Is How It's Done!

So, SO proud of these two!

Now, that's how you do a report card! P.S. Shawn has one less class because his APE isn't listed. (It's run by the county, not the school.) He got an A there, too!

A Day In Our Life...

After hearing it referenced on TV, I showed Jason how one would shake his money maker. He declared himself forever blinded from the sight. Lol.

Preteen embarrassment level 1 achieved. My daily mission is complete. 🤣😂🤷‍♀️

Friday Five

Believe it or not, I was wrong about the end day of the boys' school year. They actually get out a day earlier than I thought...they only have 9 days left. Woohoo!

~~~
The big boys have an interesting "homework" assignment this weekend. They are supposed to find a topic they can present for their "Teach the Teacher" day. They've already started thinking about what they can do. The possibilities are endless!
~~~

Jack's class is going to put on a play on the last day of school. I don't know what the play is about, but I do know that Mr. Jack is an alligator. He is so excited! lol

~~~
With the end of school, that means the boys have no homework! Can we all say hallelujah to that? I dread homework...which really means something when a teacher says it. Ha!
~~~

Funny story about Shawn: For the last few mornings, Shawn has really struggled getting up out of bed. All of that changed this morning. The boy was up early. He was chipper and talking up a storm. He was downright happy.

And then we found out why. Shawn thought today was the last day of school! Ha!

I will admit to feeling conflicted about this development. On the one hand, he was so pleasant this morning- getting ready for school, he was so nice! On the other hand...well, how cruel to let the poor kid believe the day was his last only for him to find out that wasn't true?

So, of course, we sent him to school happy. Ahem. It was Friday. What can I say? We took the easy (for us) way out. lol

Called My Bluff

Last night, the boys went to bed two hours later than normal, but contrary to all logic and reason, they still got up at their regular time this morning. You can imagine what they were like once 4 o'clock rolled around.

We had 4 hours to go until bedtime, and Shawn was fading fast. Knowing him as I do, a nap would have KILLED any semblance of an early bedtime, thereby making tomorrow kind of iffy as well. I made it my mission to keep him awake.

"Shawn, do you want to go outside to play?"

"No, I just want to rest," was his reply. Not good. I pulled out the big guns.

"Shawn, if you go to sleep, I'm going to have to cut your hair." I told him. I figured that would get his attention because he is not a hair cut fan.

"Right now?" he asked.

"Only if you go to sleep." I said.

"I think you should cut my hair right now," he countered.

"Well, no, Shawn, I said I'd cut your hair if you go to sleep," I returned.

"Mom, I want you to cut my hair right now. With scissors. Not with clippers."

The little dude called my bluff. Cutting hair was not exactly in my plan for the night, but I did sort of open up the can of worms. Sigh. That's what I get for trying to be clever.

I have to say, though, that Shawn was a rock star during his hair cut. He got right up in his chair without a single complaint. He didn't shed a single tear (that's amazing in itself) and was content the ENTIRE time.

Jason, on the other hand, was not so pleased he got caught up in the night's events.

Shopping, a Text, and Their First School Cold

Well, the boys are in school, and tomorrow I will be too. Summer is officially over. Boo. I guess I'll just have to console myself with the knowledge that Team Lopez had a great summer filled with fun and adventure!

This weekend was spent doing the final preparations for my return to work. The most important thing to do was set up my mom's car with car seats, as she'll be the one to do daily pick-ups from school now. After some researching, I came up with a seat scenario which would allow us to get all three boys across her only back seat. I called up my mom, and we were off  to hopefully find all of the seats for my plan.

While we were out, I got the following series of texts from Isaac:

~~~
"FYI, Jason refunded his bananas.  On the rug. Twice.  And while he freaked out, Jack was running all over and trying to step in it.
Wait, there's more.
So I am trying to console the now wailing Jason and find something to keep Jack from running over both spots.  Mind you, I had caught most of Jason's first refund in my hand and was still holding it at this time.
And guess what?
For a moment there, I almost forgot that we actually have 3 children.
Not to be outdone, Shawn was in the hallway at the bathroom door.  As I walked past with paper towels in hand to clean up Jason, who I now had on the linoleum part of the floor, I noticed that Shawn was running his hand and upper arm left to right on floor while saying, "Clean up, clean up," over and over again.
Yeah, he decided to evacuate his bladder in his pajamas and all over the floor. (To clarify, Shawn is potty trained, but he can't get himself onto the potty without our help, and the poor boy can only hold it for so long.) To his credit, he was at the bathroom door and may have even attempted to get my attention, but he wasn't even yelling or crying.
Which I politely told him that I appreciated.
So, how to prioritize?
Well, first I attempted to simplify the equation and make sure Jason was OK. I told Shawn to hang tight, and then took Jack and put him to bed, being sure to remove his slightly moist socks from who knows which source.  Don't worry. Whatever it was was wiped up and removed.
Then, I did another quick check on Jason, who, to HIS credit, managed to keep his pjs clean and dry.
Now, the Shawn situation took a lot of paper towels and Clorox wipes.  So I stripped him, rinsed him in the bath, dried and pajama'ed him, and put him to bed.
By this time, Jason had actually fallen asleep leaning forward on his knees.  So I picked him up and comforted him and took him to bed.  As he drifted off, barely able to mutter a word, he managed to say those words that make it all worth it in the end.....
'Dad?'
'Yeah buddy,' I said.
'I want mommy.'"
~~~

Can you believe it only took them three days of school before one got sick? I was hoping that we'd miss this part of going to school, but I know how bad school germs are. Considering that the boys have gone down hill from yesterday and still had fevers as of tonight, it looks like going to school on Monday is not going to happen.

Fingers crossed that they feel better tomorrow so they won't have to miss even more days.

The good news is that both of them are sad they can't go. "Mom, we're going to miss too much work. I won't know what they're doing on Tuesday!" and "I want to go to Kindergarten!" are nice things to hear after Friday's tear fest. lol

Another Oopsie

This time, it's about footsies.

The boys' shoes were getting a bit worn, and Jason kept complaining that his were tight. I figured it was time to buy everyone new shoes. I have to be honest, though. Taking the crew out to find said shoes was not on the top of my fun list.

Thank goodness for the net!

I printed off a shoe size chart so I could get an idea of what they'd need, and well...I was shocked.

Jason's current shoes are a size 9 wide (toddler). Now, I knew the shoes were on the small side, but Jason only recently started to say something about them. In fact, when he first put them on at the start of summer, he loved how roomy they were. Imagine my surprise then, when according to the chart, he really needed a size 12! Oops.

Jack was no better. I just bought him shoes mid summer. He already needed shoes 2 sizes larger than his current ones. (Apparently his foot size is on the large end of average for his age.) Yikes, no wonder they were hard to put on him.

Only Shawn's size was somewhat close. His current shoes were only off by a half a size. Go me!

One of three isn't too bad, now is it? :-)
