One of the things on our activity list for the summer is to go to a museum. After a bit of a search, I discovered the
Discovery Cube in Los Angeles. When I saw that they had an Animal Grossology exhibit...well, it was pretty much set that we had to go there. :)
 |
We visited the museum's cafe, which had cute things to
eat like this. Sadly, my picky eaters were not very interested
in the cafe's healthy/organic menu. Sigh. |
We were so excited that grandma came with us on this trip because it allowed us to let each kid go wherever he wanted. The boys responded very well to that strategy. They all had a fabulous time! Unfortunately, everyone heading in different directions meant that it was much harder to take pictures! lol
The big boys found this sand box which allowed them to experiment with changes to the earth's surface. Plus, it was sand, something that automatically ranked it fairly high on Shawn's list of good things.
 |
There was a screen behind Jason's head there that also showed the kids
the changes they were creating as the moved the sand. |
 |
| You can see how the water now filled the valleys that Shawn created with his digging. Too cool. |
Shawn got to chill in some smoke/steam rising from the manhole cover. (It was supposed to simulate a tornado, but we just enjoyed the smokey effect.)
Jack enjoyed the Adventures with Clifford area.
 |
| Looking adoringly at the big, red dog. |
Jack then delivered some mail.
We went shopping in the Discovery Market. The kids got to push around shopping carts with scanners. They answered questions. scanned bar codes to indicate their answers, and completed their shopping lists.
 |
| Jack even had a stroll down the aisles. |
They got to recycle, which was hands down, Shawn's FAVORITE place in the whole museum. lol. There was a conveyor belt that brought various items. The kids selected items from the conveyor belt for different categories like green waste, recyclables, and trash.
 |
Shawn was a pro at tossing those suckers into the
recycle bin! |
 |
| They did even better when they teamed up together! |
Jason went into the Planetary Research Center with grandma.
 |
| They had the whole place to themselves! |
Jack went for a little spin on the canoes.

They went upstairs and visited the Animal Grossology exhibit. We learned a LOT about poop. We laughed every time we said it. I had to say, "Ewwww!"every time, which made it even more funny to them. Lol.
 |
He spent most of his time facing the wrong way when it was his turn.
Needless to say, he didn't stop any pucks either. LOL |
We answered some hockey math questions in the Penalty Box. Jason got 4 out of 5 right!
Jason even rode on a Zamboni!
 |
| He really did like riding it more than his face shows here. |
We rode the elevator down from the second floor--a mini ride all in itself!
It really was a great day for everyone, and we had a fantastic time! Because there were a few things we didn't get to do and they continue to change their exhibits, this will definitely be something we do again!
