Friday Five

We've waited for weeks, and today we finally found it!

The egg is the white dot under the tip of the lightening bolt.

We found our first Monarch Butterfly egg on our milkweed plant! We are so excited to see what happens from here!

~~~
We also got some more Painted Lady Butterfly caterpillars last Saturday. We had a certificate that said we would get ten but when we got our cups, we were excited to see we received twelve! Woo hoo!
Today we actually got to watch two of them turn into chrysalises! As of tonight, we have three in chrysalises, 4 in the J formation, and 5 still chomping around, getting fat. :) Such fun!
Our garden continues to grow!
Green beans on top; carrots at the bottom.
Tomatoes on the left; pumpkin plants on the right.
The fun news is that we have some tomatoes!
Won't be long now!
Jack climbed up here with me while I was typing this post. I pulled up a Word document and allowed him to type away.
"Look, mom! Check it out!" he kept telling me as he typed. LOL. Mostly he did a lot of pounding the keyboard, but he did manage to type out his name a few times!
The big boys have only 12 more days before school starts. I am fairly certain Shawn thinks things are going to be the same as last year. Same teacher. Same classmates. He does not want to hear anything different about that stuff. He does, however, support the idea of going into a bigger grade. Second grade is tres grown-up. lol
Jason, on the other hand, has started saying he doesn't ever want summer to end. He is only looking forward to seeing his friends; he is definitely NOT looking forward to doing work. I tried to convince him that he'll be okay once school officially starts and that maybe the thought of going back is worse than it will actually be. He's not buying it.
~~~

Shawn is clearly unconcerned about the drought in California. When he doesn't get the chance to go into the pool outside, he spends much of the evening trying to convince me that he is dirty and stinky so he can take a bath shower and get in some water time. (He's graduated to shower now and thinks he's SO grown-up.) He could care less about the washing part once he's in the water, too. LOL
