Monday Moments

Shawn totally loves this song on Yo Gabba Gabba called "A Beautiful Day in the Park." Somehow I have him convinced that Nick Jr knows he likes the song and plays the episode it's in just for him. Every single night. lol.

Oh DVR I heart you!

---

One of our morning rituals is to search for school buses as we drive to my mom's house. Every time we see one, Jason yells out, "Today's going to be a lucky day!"

---

The big boys are getting to be quite the backseat drivers. There is nothing like hearing, "Wow! You're driving real good, mom!" in surround sound. (For the record, not running over a woman pushing a food cart is just as impressive as stopping at a red light. I have mad driving skillz, man!)

---

A new saying around these parts is "I can do it all by my own!"

So the independent streak begins. Sigh and sniff, sniff. My guys are growing up too fast!

---

The boys like to holler when they argue. Ugh. That is one thing that drives me crazy, so I feel like I am constantly saying for them to not be so loud.

Apparently the boys are listening to what I say even if they aren't actually following it. When Shawn thought my mom and I were were being too loud this afternoon, we heard him say, "It's time for you to be quiet now." from the other side of the room.

The little stinker.

Happy Mother's Day

I am so very lucky...

How could I not be with boys like these? :-)

Cute Baby Saturday - Crafty Kiddos

The boys had a big day. First, they visited our family salon, "De Hair 'Em, Scare 'Em," which was a bit hit. Or not. Still batting at 50% on this one. The boys look good, though. ;-)

Then they got to make a Mother's Grandmother's Day Gift for Grandma. (Mom, if you haven't seen us yet when you are reading this...surprise! Ahem.)

This year I wanted to do something that would memorialize the boys' hands. I started off by using a clay-like material that just never got hard enough to keep from breaking easily, so this project is actually our second attempt. If the first try was too fragile, this one has gone to the other extreme. This time we worked with cement and made grandma stepping stones for her garden.

The big boys and I are mixing up the cement.

Jason's turn to put his hand in the cement.

Okay. We had to put his hand in the cement a few times.
There was a bit of a learning curve on this step.

Then he got to add some beautiful pebbles to his design.

Shawn was up next. You can tell by his face that he
was suuuuuuper excited about putting his hand in cement.

Not deterred, I pushed on.
Those are tears of JOY, people!

Now it is Shawn's turn to add his pebbles.
Note the smiles...

Then the boys totally got their creative on...

More smiles...

Look here, there's even laughter!
Jason is working too hard for laughter.

These are the faces of concentration.

Adding the final touches...

Jack's turn. Look! More excitement!

Trying to push his hand down into the cement.
He has such tiny hands...

He's over me pushing his hand into the cement.
He's pushing my hand away now.

"Really, mom! Let go already, woman!"

"Um, yeah. This was a lot of fun. Thanks."

And now for the big reveal...(mom, you can skip this part until after you see us)
Shawn's finished product.
Isn't it beautiful?

Jason's finished product.
Budding artist, no?

Jack's finished product.
It's clear that he's a minimalist.
Nothing too crazy for his project.

Happy Mother's Day eve, everyone!

Kidbits: Our Life in a Series of Face Book Updates... Part 15

Shawn just asked if I wanted a piece of him. I even made him repeat it to make sure I heard correctly. Um, I'm not sure where he learned that one, but it cracked me up anyway!

---

Jack had another splash in the toilet his evening. (What is with this kid and his fascination with the toilet?!!?) Let's just say someone had forgotten to flush and Isaac was the one who found him playing in it. Isaac just about died. Died! Picture him holding my poor, dripping boy out at arms length, calling for me to come do something. Lol.

I think it will be a long time before Isaac recovers from the experience. He's still grossed out--maybe even scarred for life, and yet I can't stop laughing. ;)

And yes, Jack is okay, and no he didn't ingest anything as far as we can tell.

---

Got the bright idea to inflate the boys' pool. All I have is a hand pump, and... I've been at it for over an hour and still nowhere near done. I hereby declare this idea as "stupid."

---

Just found Jack playing in the toilet. I just know my somewhat germaphobe husband is going to love hearing that. I think I'll leave out the part about him putting his hand in the water and licking it... (shudder)

Got to admit that's pretty high on the EW meter, though.

---

So Shawn has decided I am a tiger while Isaac is a zebra. Do you suppose that means something, or am I reading too much into it? lol

---

So. I learned 2 things today. 1) the boys are not fans of fire alarms, and 2) it is not wise to leave the car keys within a boy's reach when he is IN the car and I am not. Ahem.

Found out both the hard way. Story to come soon. (we're all fine :) )

---

Check. Check. Check. Keep marking things off my list. Now if the little hurricanes in the family would stop coming around behind me and messing up my cleaned house I'd be set!

---

Our BIG one is the BIG 1!!!! Happy Birthday, Jack!

---

We now know that Shawn's head only fits half way under his bed before it gets stuck. Don't ask HOW we learned this fact...just accept that we now know it. Sigh.

March 23, 2012 - Parents of Preemies Day! :-)
Today, I am recognizing the courage and commitment it takes to stay strong and resilient when premature birth turns a family's world upside down.
Happy Parents of Preemies Day!

20/20

Yesterday Jason had an eye exam. He did so well! Because he is such a big boy, he was finally able to have an exam that seemed more involved than the voodoo exam the opthamalogist did when they were "little." (Seriously, it was like voodoo. I swear it was like he waved a bunch of instruments in front of his eyes and declared his prescription strength. I'm still not even sure how he could have decided on a strength because he hardly even looked into his eyes!)

Anyway, this time Jason got to look at pictures.

Personally, I think he would have rocked the traditional letter exam, but the tech put up this version for him to try. He knew what all of the pictures were except the horse and rider. He never could come up with a description of that one. lol. He read her the pictures, getting all the way down to the second to the last line. (20/20 vision) At that point, he stopped calling out pictures for the tech. We're not sure whether that is because he could no longer distinguish between the shapes, or if he was just over the "game" we were playing. Who knows. He might have better than 20/20 vision with his glasses.

All looks good. His vision has held steady since his 2010 appointment when he had a very slight change to his script. We will be going back at the end of July, however, to get his eyes dilated and completely checked just to make sure this appointment didn't miss anything.

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Nose

Shawn, you got a little somethin' on your nose...

I do? Where?
You do. Right there. It's a yellow dot. Do you know what it is?

Ha, ha. I just had an itch.
I scratched it with my chalk!
Oh. Well that explains it then. Now where is my camera? I want to take your picture!

(I will admit to maybe leaving that dot on his nose for a while because it was so cute. (-: )

Still Working on That Whole Cause/Effect Relationship

Jack's mastering that whole cause and effect thing. Hit water with hand, water splashes face! His reactions were so funny. lol. (with an added thumb suck for good measure)

The boys are still sick. We've had a couple of long nights, too. I have to say that I miss my sleep. Out of our house, germs. OUT!
