Still Working on That Whole Cause/Effect Relationship

Jack's mastering that whole cause and effect thing. Hit water with hand, water splashes face! His reactions were so funny. lol. (with an added thumb suck for good measure)

The boys are still sick. We've had a couple of long nights, too. I have to say that I miss my sleep. Out of our house, germs. OUT!

4 Year Old Humor

Knock, knock.

Who's there?

A cow goes.

A cow goes who?

A cow doesn't go who, a cow goes moo!

Cue wild laughter. :-) This joke is a big hit around these parts.

The Sick has now officially claimed all three of the little people. I hate germs.

Sigh.

Love :-)

A momentary break from playing with chalk.
In case you are wondering, they resumed their constant fighting about
two seconds after this shot was taken. Sigh.

Conversations With 4 Year Olds

As I've mentioned before, Mr. Jason is obsessed with signs. Today, while I was attempting to inflate a kiddie pool for the boys, he saw this one.

He asked me several questions about it. I told him it warns parents not leave babies and to keep their eyes on them when they are in the water so the babies stay safe. After I explained to him what it meant, he dropped the subject.

Later, he was sitting on the big potty, something he isn't a fan of as he prefers to keep his feet on the ground and use the kid potty. I was in the doorway, about ready to leave him in the bathroom so I could go check on the other two munchkins in the living room when he said, "Stop, mom. You need to read the sign!"

I looked around, but didn't see anything. "What sign, Jason?"

He started drawing in the air. "This one. It says you need to be a good mom and not leave me alone and keep your eyes on your baby!"

I had to laugh. He also got his wish. :-)

I gave the boys chips for lunch this afternoon. (Don't judge.) I had already seated Jason and was finishing up Shawn's lunch as he came into the kitchen.

"Shawn," I said, "which kind of chip do you want? The bumpy kind (Ruffles) or Pringles?"

"Umm...I don't want that kind of chip." he said with a slow smile. "I want chocolate chips instead!"

Yep, this kid is definitely mine!

Rub a Dub Dub

Two boys in a tub!

Shawn and Jack got to take their first bath together tonight, and I think they both had a pretty good time!

Shawn is playing out his big brother role.
Here he wanted to wash Jack's hair.
Much to his disappointment, I had to put a nix on that idea.

I'mma gonna get you, Jack!

Jack has perfected the art of the splash. Fill cup up with water
and throw! Shawn couldn't get away fast enough.

Jack stopped to really study the water cup. Shawn's curiosity
got the best of him. He was disappointed when he realized all that
was in the cup was water. lol

A big brother's job is never done. He had to give Jack one final lesson.
Don't drink the water, Jack! It's yucky!

It looks like another round of The Sick is threatening Casa Lopez. (Oh, please NO!)

Poor Jason woke up with a stuffy nose. As much as I tried to convince him that he was feeling A-Ok, it was clear that he wasn't. He didn't want to eat and barely talked most of the night. For Jason, not eating and talking is very unusual. He looks like his throat is bothering him also. This is not a good sign.

None of the rest of us are sick, which leads me to believe that this illness (and the others) are coming from their school. (48 hours after going there, they get sick. The timing is just too perfect.) There's not a whole lot we can do to stop it, either.

I'd guess they might think we are odd if the boys showed up in face masks. I suppose I could follow them around with Clorox wipes or Lysol while they are there. Can't you just picture me spraying a trail for them to follow as they get from place to place or pulling toys out of their teacher's hands to sanitize before they give them to the boys?

Wait a minute. Maybe I could make it work...

Nah, probably not.

Sigh. I'm kidding about the sanitizing.

Mostly. :-)

Memories and Giving Back

This blog's very first post was a video documenting my pregnancy and the birth of the dynamic duo. Remember this?

It brings it all back when I look at those pictures--the happiness, the excitement, and of course the fear. Those were tough times, for sure. Our boys had a rocky beginning.

They really have come so far in these 4 short years!

Team Lopez is incredibly thankful for the dedication and skill of the NICU team which cared for the boys in those early days. We are also thankful for the March of Dimes. Without the funding and research provided by the March of Dimes, several life saving advancements (surfactant is one example) would not have been available to help our boys survive their early birth.

That is why we are participating in this year's March for Babies. Our boys are here, in part, because of them.

The March for Babies walk is only 15 days away. Team Lopez is proud that we've raised $597.00 so far for this important charity (because of your generosity!), but we still have a ways to go before we hit our goal of $1000. We would love it if you'd consider supporting Team Lopez and the March of Dimes. It really is such a worth cause!

Not sure how much to donate? A meaningful contribution might be:
  • $28.30 for the number of weeks gestation the boys were.
  • Or maybe $59, the number of days I spent on complete bed rest.
  • Or what about $17, the number of days I spent in the hospital before and after their birth.
  • $15.25 to represent Shawn's length at birth.
  • Or $15.00 to represent Jason's length at birth.
  • Or how about $47.00 to represent the number of ounces (2 pounds & 15 ounces) the boys were at birth.
  • There is also $90.00 - to represent the length of Shawn's NICU stay
  • Or $100.00 - to represent the length of Jason's NICU stay
  • Or even $12.00 - to represent the number of weeks early they were born
  • $46 to represent they dynamic duo's age -- 4 and a half years old
Please consider donating to this very worthy cause. Anything will help!

Wordless Wednesday - Jack and His Daddy

It's really wordless this time. Oh wait. Now it isn't wordless anymore. One day I may just get it right! lol

Anyway, I think these pictures speak for themselves...

Just another day of daddy and his youngest boy learning about each other. I love the sweet moments like these!
