Mostly Wordless Wednesday - Height

The boys are both pretty tall. Still, when you look at them, it is clear that Jason is much taller than his brother.

At this point, I'd say that Shawn is around 35 inches tall. Jason, however, is probably over 37 inches tall. The top of his head is almost as tall as the button on my jeans, and as you all know, I'm not little. The boy is just tall and lean. Nowhere is this difference in the boys' sizes more evident than in the sizes of their feet.

Jason on the left; Shawn on the right.

The difference just amazes me. They were born at the same time after all. They have the same genetic gene pool even. You'd think they'd be more alike than they are. I suppose this is just another way that my boys strive to be individuals. :-)

Anyway, sometimes I wonder how tall the boys will be as adults. While predicting a kid's adult height is not an exact science, there are a couple of clues that help us get a rough estimate.

Clue #1: Look at the height of the parents. In general, a child's height will be around the parents' height. I am 5'9"ish. Isaac is 6' tall. A boy should grow to be pretty close to the height of his father. (Score one for the boys!)

Clue #2: Prematurity and health problems can possibly lead to a size smaller than would be expected. While both are healthy now, there have been some bumps along the road for them. Who knows if this will affect their height in the long run? (Boo. Take a point from the boys.)

Clue #3: The general rule of thumb is that you double the height of a child when he is two, you will get the child's approximate adult height. Okay.

Shawn was 35.5 inches at 2 years old. We'll round to 36 inches to make things easier. 36 X 2 = 72 inches tall. (for those of you a bit slow on the uptake, that is 6 feet tall!)

Jason was 37.5 inches tall at 2 years old. We'll round to 38 inches to make things easier. 38 X 2 = 76 inches tall. (that would translate to 6'4"!!!)

(Score two points for the boys!)

I don't know how accurate these little clues will be, but it is kind of fun speculating. Now I just have to wrap my mind around the fact the boys may actually be taller than me someday. I just can't imagine my babies ever being that big! :-)

My 2nd set of twins are boys and they are completely different sizes!! People don't even think they're twins anymore...most assume I've had them back to back, rather than at the same time!

One lady once asked me, "Are you absolutely sure they're twins?"...that had to be the dumbest question anyone's ever asked me!

Sounds like your boys are doing well!!!!!!
