Our Father's Day Craft!

This year, I am proud to say all of the boys created their gifts for daddy! Shawn had such a good time, he asked to keep painting for the rest of the day. lol. After he started to suck on his paint brush, I had to nix that idea, but I am thrilled that he has finally started to enjoy mommy's crazy brilliant crafting projects. :-) (Just wait, boy. I have lots of crafting planned for this summer!)

We started with $1.00 wooden frames from Michael's.

Hey look! This is like a picture frame!
(I hadn't told him what it was at first.)

Take my picture, too!

We used finger paints as our medium. I thought it would clean up easier than tempera paint. (It did.) I gave each boy his own pallet of four colors. Shawn went to work mixing his colors immediately.

Such technique!
Jason took the more deliberate approach this time. I think he sensed the importance of the gift. It was Father's Day, after all. (He is normally the paint mixer, so it cracks me up that he was all delicate with his painting this time. Shawn is usually the delicate one! They keep things fresh, that's for sure!)

More technique!

It was at this point I realized he was painting on the wrong
side. Oopsie. He got to start over.

He was having so much fun.

Step one was finished. I set them outside to dry.
It only took about 10 minutes to dry.
At first I was a bit chicken to let Jack have a go at the crafting. He hasn't ever had a chance to craft, and I wasn't sure I was up for the wild card aspect of it. But, Isaac convinced me that it would be okay. I set up his paints on the floor, got behind him to help, and let him go at it.
I just use my fingers to paint?

That sounds like FUN!

I just put his hands in all the colors and let him sort of
stamp out his design. I did help him aim for the frame. ;)

He got into it, too! I may have another crafter on my hands!

This is AWESOME!

Jack's masterpiece.

Here are the finished frames. I wrote each boy's name in sharpie on his frame. I wrote the date and "Happy Father's Day" on the corner, and I added a picture of each boy with daddy. I love how they turned out. (Daddy does, too!)

I especially love how the frames are similar in colors and yet are totally different--just like our boys! :-)

Happy Father's Day, Daddy!

This is a conversation the boys had this morning. Mommy and daddy were still in bed (like they should have been)...
S: Happy Birthday, Daddy!
J: No. It isn't a birthday. It's Father's Day.
S: NO. Happy Birthday, Jay-son! (Shawn pronounces Jason's name just like that. Too cute!)
J: NO! It isn't my birthday! It's Father's Day!
S: Happy Father's Day, Jason!
J: NOOOOOOOO...

lol. That was a pretty cute way to wake up, even if it was waaaaaaaay tooooo early. :-) By the time they got to daddy, they both had it right and wished him a Happy Father's Day.

The boys were a bit on the cranky side, but we did some crafts for daddy, played outside, and watched daddy open some presents. Fun times all around (well, except for the cranky part).

Happy Father's Day, Isaac. The boys couldn't have asked for a better daddy, coach, motivator, helper, and inspiration. They all love you very, very much.

You are the best!

Cute Baby Saturday - Phone

Tonight Jack was playing with his phone...

Is this how you dial this thing, Jason?
It's ringing!
"Hello...?" (Cue lots of slobber and gnawing on the phone. I think
he may be a bit confused as to how a phone is actually used!)
I learned how to use it now, mommy.
I think it's time for me to use YOUR phone now!

He's a Big 'Un

Jack's a big guy. It's obvious when you see him, but when he is next to his brothers, I almost have to do a double take. It's easy to forget how old he is by his size alone.

As a reference:

Shawn is average sized in height (literally around the 50th percentile on the growth chart). He is around the 25th percentile for weight.

Jack is above the 99th percentile for height. He's around the 70th percentile for weight.

---

Jack weighs about 6 pounds less than Shawn.

Jack is 6 inches shorter.

---

Shawn is 1693 days old.

Jack is 443 days old.

That's a difference of 3.4 YEARS.

---

So, um. Yeah. Jack is big. :-)

Throw Back Thursday - A Year Ago This Week

Today was the last day of school, and well, I am tired. So today we are revisiting a post I wrote this week last year.

---------------------

Overheard (June 16, 2011)

"Mommy. Jason needs to go sit on the naughty chair." - Shawn when he thinks Jason is getting away with something he shouldn't.

This one is still being used today only now they both say it. They can be so "helpful" at times.

---

Mommy: "Jason look! A police car!"

Jason: Gasps while looking in the direction I pointed. "Cool!"

Jason about 20 seconds later: "But I missed it."

Said on the way to Target this weekend.

We still do Target a lot, and we still have similar conversations. The difference now is that I am the one who doesn't see whatever we're talking about. :-)

---

"Daddy! I had a BIG dream...of a thunderstorm and a garbage truck." - Jason this morning right after he woke up.

Jason still has pretty vivid dreams. If you wake him from a deep sleep in the mornings, he's likely to tell you some of the wildest tales.

---

Jason: "Go to sleep, Shawnie."
Shawn: "No!"
Jason: "Go to SLEEP."
Shawn: "No. I don't want TOOOOO!"

Scene played out just about every morning because Shawn is up for the day but Jason still wants to sleep.

Yep. This is the same!

---

Shawn: "Can I stick my hand in the water?"
Mommy: "No! Shawn, quit playing with the cat's water dish!"

Thankfully, this conversation has died. (For the time being at least. I am sure it will start up again once Jack finds the water dish.)

---

"Can I watch Light-ning Ma-the-clean?" - said by Shawn approximately 473 times a day, every day, 7 days a week.

Now the requests are for Bubble Guppies and/or Team Umi Zoomi. We haven't seen poor Lightning for a while now.

---

Lots of laughter..."I made stinky ducks!" followed by lots more laughter. - said by both boys to tell me they just passed gas--because we must announce these things for all to enjoy, you know.

Sigh.

OMG. This is exactly the same!!! Who would have thought that gas would be that funny?

---

"I wanna 'nuggle." - said by Shawn every night before bed. :-)

This is the same, too. :-)

---

"Can we go to Target and get some cars?" - said by Jason. I created a monster!

He still wants to go to Target...he's not after the cars, though. Yea! Progress!

---

"Ahhhhh-ohhhhh" - said by Jack after he eats.

Yep. Still the same, only now he likes to add in some screams for good measure (just in case I didn't hear him the first time).

Raising a Vampire or Something!

So Jack now officially has all of his teeth. So what does he do with them?

He bites, of course. And hard, too!

Here's my souvenir from tonight. He left me a love chomp on the shoulder. This picture was about two minutes after he did it. (It looks every prettier now--red, purple, and a bit raised.)

I would say that he learned his lesson from the stern no he received, but he went after my foot a few minutes later. I managed to escape his clutches before he connected.

Bite me once, shame on you. Bite me twice and I'm just stupid. Ahem.

On the bright side, it is good to see that his teeth are effective at their job. They should work just fine when he starts tearing into tri tip and chicken legs in the future!
By the way, this is one stage I'd like to fast forward through, thank you very much!
