Our Father's Day Craft!

This year, I am proud to say all of the boys created their gifts for daddy! Shawn had such a good time, he asked to keep painting for the rest of the day. lol. After he started to suck on his paint brush, I had to nix that idea, but I am thrilled that he has finally started to enjoy mommy's crazy brilliant crafting projects. :-) (Just wait, boy. I have lots of crafting planned for this summer!)

We started with $1.00 wooden frames from Michael's.

We used finger paints as our medium. I thought it would clean up easier than tempera paint. (It did.) I gave each boy his own pallet of four colors. Shawn went to work mixing his colors immediately.

Jason took the more deliberate approach this time. I think he sensed the importance of the gift. It was Father's Day, after all. (He is normally the paint mixer, so it cracks me up that he was all delicate with his painting this time. Shawn is usually the delicate one! They keep things fresh, that's for sure!)

It was at this point I realized he was painting on the wrong
side. Oopsie. He got to start over.

Step one was finished. I set them outside to dry.
It only took about 10 minutes to dry.

At first I was a bit chicken to let Jack have a go at the crafting. He hasn't ever had a chance to craft, and I wasn't sure I was up for the wild card aspect of it. But, Isaac convinced me that it would be okay. I set up his paints on the floor, got behind him to help, and let him go at it.

I just use my fingers to paint?

That sounds like FUN!

I just put his hands in all the colors and let him sort of
stamp out his design. I did help him aim for the frame. ;)

He got into it, too! I may have another crafter on my hands!

Jack's masterpiece.

Here are the finished frames. I wrote each boy's name in sharpie on his frame. I wrote the date and "Happy Father's Day" on the corner, and I added a picture of each boy with daddy. I love how they turned out. (Daddy does, too!)

I especially love how the frames are similar in colors and yet are totally different--just like our boys! :-)
