Wellness Visit **Updated**

The boys had a pedi appointment today. They both got 5 shots, the poor babies. I hope it isn't going to be a long night for us. Last time, they both ran slight fevers. I have the Tylenol handy just in case.

Here is the good news:
  • Jason is 28.25 inches long (I measured 29 inches, so I bet the more accurate length is somewhere between my measurement and theirs)
  • Jason weighs 17 pounds (I weighed him at 18, but again, I imagine the actual reading is somewhere between the two)
  • Shawn is 27 inches long (I measured him at 26.5 inches)
  • Shawn weighs 16 pounds (I weighed him at 17, but well, you know the story)
  • They are both on the growth charts for their actual age. WhooHoo.
  • They get to start vegies and fruits (umm...okay. I didn't confess that I already started them on both.)
  • We can have teething crackers.
  • They are stuck with the totally, ridiculously, high priced formula for the time being. (Boo-this isn't exactly good news for me, but whatever.)
  • We can take Motrin if the need arises.
  • And they BOTH should be sleeping through the night now. Jason does, but Shawn gets up once. So, now Isaac has nothing to argue with me about on that point! :-) (He tends to be a pushover when it comes to Shawn.)
  • The hunger strike continues, but the pedi wasn't concerned about it. So, I suppose I shouldn't be either. But, still... Sigh.

Food wise, the boys have had rice cereal, oatmeal w/bananas, carrots, the beloved pears, and tonight they start green beans. No allergies that I've noticed. Yea. They tolerate everything, but they love pears. Mmmm...pears are good. Anyway, I hope they like the green beans better than the carrots.

Oh, and happy vacation to me! School's out for sum - mer! Yeah, baby!

**Update**

Shawn didn't mind the green beans too much. They still aren't as good as those pears, but doable. I'll take that.

Jason, on the other hand? Well, I'll let you decide what his feelings are...

Father's Day...

Happy Father's Day, Isaac!

Love,

Your Double Trouble!

We ditched the cereal. Rice cereal = gross apparently. We have moved on to bigger and better things. Today was day 2 of our first fruit -- pears. All we have to say to that is YUMMY! Seriously! Both boys likey, likey their pears.

We are on to the next food on Tuesday! Wish us luck. I am thinking maybe carrots...we'll see.

Hunger Strike 2008 is still going on, but not quite as bad as before. I have decided to stop being so anal, and am not calculating daily calorie intake any more. I can't tell you how much self control that is taking. See, I told you I was anal about it. I do want to buy a really good scale to check their weight once a week just to ease my mind a little bit. I just want to see a general upward trend and I'll be satisfied.

Oh, to clarify a little, before the HS2008, the boys had only had rice cereal one time (and we videoed it for your viewing pleasure). I hadn't really given it to them again for a lot of reasons, one of which was timing. They were eating at 4:30ish (right after work) and then not again until 11:00ish at night. I didn't want to feed them solids that late, and I didn't have it together good enough right after work, so I hadn't given them any more until after the HS2008 began. HS2008 wasn't started because I had started the cereal. It began before I started the cereal.

Okay, that is it for tonight. I need to get ready for bed. I have only 10 more wake-ups for work. Yippee!

Hunger Strike

Isn't it funny how things seem to change just as you think you have a handle on them? Here I was feeling pretty happy with myself because I had finally managed to juggle the twins without going crazy established a routine. Babies were getting fat, parents were getting to sleep, excursions to the outside were finally taking place--in essence, things were going great at the Team Lopez house.

The boys, sensing my smug attitude, have decided to ban together in their first show of "divided we fall" and have begun what will henceforth be known as Hunger Strike 2008. What has caused this little show of brotherly camaraderie, you ask? I haven't got a clue. I have thought long and hard about it too.

Illness? They don't really act sick outside of the HS2008.

Teething? Possible, but Jason's tooth is out completely (can we say awwwww) and his other is just about there, while Shawn's are pretty close to erupting as well.

The answer eludes me, unless making us suffer could be the rationale of a 7 month old. I am starting to think that is what this is.

During this last week, the boys have gone from eating a consistent 6 ounces (for Shawn) and 8 ounces (for Jason) in fifteen to thirty minutes to eating 3 1/2 - 4 ounces a feeding. Often, those 4 ounces take a good forty-five minutes to achieve. Bottles are being batted. Heads are turning away from us. Crying sometimes occurs. All in all, eating time has disintegrated. They are not eating more frequently, either.

Sigh.

Come on, boys. You are making me stress!

In an effort to maximize a healthy calorie intake, and therefore maintain our hard earned poundage, I have started giving the boys rice cereal with each feeding they eat below 5 ounces. They are not enjoying this new plan much. Let's just say that Jason's little video could have been taken today rather than last week. The reactions are the same.

I know that most of the answer lies in my releasing my obsession with relaxing a little about their eating. (I am seriously anal.) Still, I don't really see that happening for some time yet.

Anyone have any thoughts on what is going on with them?

Cereal--Yum?

Jason's first attempt at rice cereal...

Not to be outdone by his brother, here is Shawn's first attempt at rice cereal...

Bet you didn't think it would go that way did you? :-)

Our First Walk to the Park

On Friday, Isaac and I ventured out with the boys to the park near our house. There was a small production as we hooked Isaac up to his baby carrier, took pictures, and gathered up the necessary supplies. (I had no idea what those supplies were supposed to be, but I did know we should take something. I settled on some blankets and chew toys. We used the blankets, and carried the toys.)

You know what?

We had a great time! I think the boys had fun looking at everything. We stopped to investigate trees and talked. It was really fun for all of us.

The only part that was unpleasant for the boys was the wind. They both tried to get away from it and acted like it took their breath away. Poor babies. So, for the last part of the walk, we covered their faces with the blankets to protect them. (See, I guessed right about bringing the blankets!)

And now for the pictures. You knew we would have some...

And if you can believe it, we ran into a student from school. I swear they are everywhere!

We Are 7 Months Old!

Another month has flown by in the blink of an eye! 7 months already. It just doesn't seem possible.

This month has been filled with hospital visits, and we are glad that things have finally settled down for Shawn (knock on everything made of wood within your reach, please). Now that the two boys are finally together full time, they are starting to enjoy each other's company. It is really sweet to watch them together, while they are on their play mat.

The boys have their re-scheduled 6 month check-ups soon. They'll get their next round of shots (shhh...don't tell them) and we'll get more accurate updates on their heights and weights than what my home scale will give us. I am still hoping to start them on solids after we get the go ahead from the pediatrician.
The biggest development around here is that we are finally sleeping for approximately 7 hours at a stretch during the night. (insert contented sighs here) :-)
