Complaint

It has been an open secret that we have struggled with the school district for years now. It took years for the district to create an adequate IEP for Shawn - years that culminated in mediation and a settlement agreement. We reached that settlement agreement exactly 1 month before everything shut down in 2020. Everything was closed. School went online. And for the first time, we saw real growth and learning happening for our guy.

There was no option for school to remain online this year, so the kids went back to in-person school. It has not gone smoothly, and it has not been pleasant. That has led to filing yet another complaint, this time with the Office of Civil Rights.

It is unfortunate that it takes this much time, energy, and money for a child to be educated in the way he can learn. There is no reason for it other than a blatant disregard for children with learning differences.

The OCR has 30 days to determine whether they will pursue our complaint. We feel we have ample documentation to support the complaint, and we are ready to move forward. We will do what needs to be done to advocate for our child.

Send good vibes our way.
