Gearing Up for Homeschooling

When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. Well, we do, at least. With the onset of homeschooling that has begun due to social distancing, I figure it is time for us to get serious about how this whole thing is going to look.

Here's what we're doing to prepare:
  • We decided to invest in Chromebooks for the boys. Shawn's Chromebook is a bit larger and has a touch screen while the other two got slightly smaller Chromebooks with no touch screen because they can access a mouse easier than Shawn can.
  • We came up with a loose schedule: As of now, weekends are free from work as a normal weekend would be. For Monday through Friday, our goal is to complete reading (min. 30 minutes a day), academics (min. 1 hour a day), creativity time (min. 1 hour a day), chores (approx. 30 min. a day), and we're trying a new program (Mightier.com) to help work on calming skills and build muscle memory, ultimately helping the boys overcome frustration, anxiety, and other issues that may arise.
  • We will encourage outside play, games, and having fun.
  • We're going work on limiting tech time during the week.
We shall see if we're all still alive come April. ;) I think this time is going to be good for us all!
