Challenge Accepted Part 2

Today, Shawn finished his homework challenge this month -- to find what he could do with an unsharpened pencil. Shawn is our music lover, so it was no surprise that he'd want to create something he could play.

After tossing around some ideas, Shawn came up with his idea - to build a spin drum. Unlike his brother, Shawn isn't big on prototypes (yay!) so he got right to work.

He first tested a few different materials to use as the cover of the drum. He liked the sound of plastic wrap, but found overzealous drumming could, in fact, make holes. He tried some paper, cardboard, and plastic (a lid from a butter dish). He ultimately liked the sound of the plastic and cardboard. To finish, he also used beads, string, tape, hot glue (my job), and the pencil.

He's not sure if he is done yet - he might want to paint his drum or potentially create a maraca to go with it.

Way to go, Shawn! You did an awesome job!
