(posting this late - written half on Friday and half on Saturday)
It's been an interesting couple of days around these parts. This was the view today when we looked out our back window at about noon ...
That is smoke from fires just south of us. 😢

Because of the fires, both my district and the boys' district canceled school on Friday. Actually, most of the schools on this end of the county cancelled. It was a surprise, but I think it was definitely a good call, especially with the air quality being what it was from the smoke/ash in the air.
There are actually two fires going right now in our area. The winds are intense and gusting upwards of 50 miles an hour. The ground is dry from years of drought. Humidity is in the single digits. The conditions are ripe for a raging fire, and these two are meeting that expectation already. 😢
It is also strange, though, because we were going through almost this same situation just under a year ago. Let's hope that this round of fires don't rage for as long as last year's fire. We should have the winds die down on Saturday, but the talk is that they'll pick back up on Sunday and be bad through Tuesday.

Due to the fires, we lost our cable and internet for about 24 hours. We lost power at about 4 pm on Friday, and didn't get it back until approximately 6 pm the next day. We all got a chance to see how much we rely on technology in our lives. Plus, the boys got to see what life must have been like in "the dark ages" as they said. LOL

This coming week will bring conferences for the boys. Well, sort of, at least. Jack's conference is on Thursday. This kid is quite the character, so it will be interesting to hear what his teacher says about him. lol. The big boys won't have their conferences until after the Thanksgiving holiday. Their teacher was sick two days last week, and then with the day canceled on Friday, she didn't get a chance to set anything up.

The kids have been reading fools around these parts. Shawn finished his second book with Bookshare and started his third. (Go, Shawn!) Jason finished the 6th Harry Potter book. (It put his emotions through the wringer. 😢) Jack has been on a roll with AR and is reading and testing like no tomorrow! Yay for readers!
