Teaching Manners

Jack has been watching an animated cartoon video about a boy and his pet Alligator, Al. The boy must teach Al manners, so that the boy can keep him as a pet. During the videos the viewer is asked to help teach his alligator manners by picking the right way for the alligator to behave. Each time the boy asks, "Can you please teach my alligator manners?"

Well, for some reason, Jack has recently changed the phrase. When the boy from the video asks about teaching his alligator manners, Jack changes it up and says, "Can you please teach my Jay manners?"

We're not exactly sure why, but it cracks us up.  Not surprisingly, Jason finds it a little rude. LOL

Friday Five

The Olympics started today, so we spent this evening watching the Opening Ceremony. Let's just say that this experience has changed from what I remember. Jason spent the whole time trying to tell me what he thought was happening in each of the different scenes of the show (which...let's just say the boys has a vivid imagination), while Shawn asked repeatedly for an hour and a half if it was over. Jack was the smart one and decided to split and play in his room. Lol.

I am not deterred, though. I shall pass on my love of the Olympics if it kills them...er, me.

~~~
It's crazy to think that the boys start school in 13 days. It seems like this summer just sort of disappeared. We didn't get to do as much as we would have liked. It seems like one or more of us have been sick for pretty much the entire time. If we can finally shake this crud, we will definitely try to do a few last hurrahs before school starts, but it is looking a little iffy at this point.
~~~

With the sick and the backyard off limits for the time being, I think it is safe to say that we are all going a little stir crazy. Isaac took the boys to Target this afternoon, and you would have thought that it was a trip to Disneyland. LOL

~~~
The backyard work is nearing the end. The concrete looks really good. Tomorrow they'll be working on making the caps for the garden wall. I suspect they'll be done by mid week. Yay! I can't wait!
~~~

I finally pulled off the drawer locks on Jack's dresser this week. (I've been meaning to for a long while now, but had never got around to it.) So of course, Jack has become somewhat of a fashionista. He has decided that each day he needs to wear every outfit he has. It is kind of comical, but I sure hope this obsession fades soon. All this laundry stinks.

Conversations With 8 Year Olds

We had a milestone of sorts around here because Jason was able to swallow his first pill. :) This was very exciting around these parts, so Jay decided he wanted to call grandma and share his achievement.

J: "Can I call grandma, mom?"
Me: "Sure! The number is ..."
J: "I can do it! I know grandma's number!"

He grabbed the phone and ran into the other room. A few seconds later, I heard him talking to Shawn.

J: "Shawn, what's grandma's number?"
S: "Hey! I want to call grandma! Why are you calling grandma?"
J: " Shawn, what's her number?!"
S: (sigh) "It's 4..."

Shawn then rattled off the entire number. The whole exchange totally made me laugh. lol!

Concrete and Happy Anniversary to Us!

Today was very exciting! We finally poured the concrete (three trucks worth!) in our backyard. Yay!

The view out our back sliding door while the concrete was wet. :)

This is so exciting to us...we now will have a walkway next to the house instead
of barren, dirt filled planters. Woo Hoo!

This is the side of the house that leads from the kitchen/garage areas
to the driveway.

This is the RV driveway we have on the other side of the house.

Scored, textured, and drying.

The progression from the same viewpoint.

The most exciting thing for us was that we get to mark this occasion with hand prints of the boys. I love, love, LOVE that we got to mark our anniversary as the date!

Some people celebrate their 14th Anniversary with the traditional gift of ivory.
Concrete and hand prints are more our style!

You could say that this year, we decided to make some concrete plans and celebrate in a way that would cement our love! Ha!

Conversation With 8 Year Olds

Isaac: "Do you know what you want for dinner?"

Jay: "yeah, chicken and ranch sauce. I'm not emotionally hungry, I just know what I want to eat."

Isaac: ...

Shawn: "But I just want a donut."
