Friday Five

Ten more school days! Wooo hoooo! We continue to count down to summer. Bring it!

~~~
Jason brought home an invitation for us to attend the Accelerated Reader awards ceremony next Friday morning. This school year, he has already read 211 books and something like 600,000+ words. His current point total is 147.6 points, and he's just 3 points shy from his personal goal. He has until the 9th to reach his goal. I'm certain he'll make it!
Way to go, Jay!
~~~

This week brought the end of the boys' homework for the school year. I can't tell you how excited I am (we all are) about that. Yay!

~~~
For our bedtime story the last few days, we've been reading Roald Dahl's book, The Magic Finger. When the main character, an eight year old girl, points her magic finger at the people who get her upset, strange things start happening. The story has apparently made an impact on Shawn because I swear the boy pointed his finger at me this evening! It was pretty funny.
Sadly for Shawn (and good for me!), his finger does not possess the same magic as the girl's in the story. ;)
~~~

Jack has been wiggling his two front teeth, and I was certain they'd be out by now. Alas, they are still in there wiggling, and he is still showing his annoyance of said wiggling by his constant requests for us to pull his teeth out. I would, but somehow these teeth have roots of steel and are hanging on.

Harry Potter'ed

The big boys and I sat and watched the first Potter movie this afternoon. Jason, was watching, but he did have moments of occupying himself with random things as the movie progressed. Shawn, however, was quiet and calm, sitting right next to me on the couch, and watched the entire movie. He asked questions and wanted me to clarify things. IT. WAS. AWESOME.

Afterward, we had lunch. While sitting at the table, we discussed possible scenarios. "Would you rather be Harry or Dumbledore? Snape or McGonagall? That went on for some time before Jason finally lamented, "I am a wizard. Why am I stuck in a muggle family?!"

I have succeeded in my quest to instill a love of Harry Potter in my children. I was asked today when we can read the next book of the series. My heart swelled, and I nearly wept from joy! Or something like that, at least. I am really tickled about their taking joy in something I enjoy, though. :)

P.S. Book 2 is at school just waiting to come home with me! Yay!
