Conversations With 7 Year Olds

Him: What is that?
Me: Vicks Vapor Rub.
Him: Is that glue? It looks like yucky glue.
Me: No, it's not glue.

I proceeded to rub it on his chest.

Him: Wait!! Help!! I don't want glue all over me!! NOOOOOO!
Me: Oh stop it. This will help you breathe. Relax.
Him: No!!!

The then spent the next ten minutes yelling about how I was trying to glue him to his bed, and he would not believe me when I told him it wasn't really glue. Sigh.

Now I remember why I usually do that kind of thing after they are asleep. It's a WHOLE lot less hassle that way!

Mostly Wordless Wednesday

They started out as drums...

And then he ended up marching in them. I guess he's taking "marching to the beat of a different drum" to a whole new level. :)

Teachers Appreciated

I asked the boys what they wanted to get their teachers for Teacher Appreciation Day. As I mentioned before, Jason declared that he wanted to give his teacher flowers. Shawn declared he wanted to give her something off the wall, I think it was a dinosaur, as his gift. So, I came up with a way to give their teachers a little of both!

We started with the flowers. I purchased some very inexpensive white vases. I gave the boys some Sharpie markers for them to use to decorate.

Jason went with a pink motif.

I had Shawn do a different technique to decorate his vases.
I covered a portion of the vase and let him mark where ever he wanted.
When I removed the covered section, it left a design on the negative space.

After the boys finished decorating, we popped the vases in the oven for 30 minutes to set the ink and make it permanent.

The finished vases.
I admit that I wrote the "thank you" vase.
Both boys were over decorating by then. lol
For the flowers, I taped a piece of candy to a bamboo skewer. Then I let the boys choose tissue paper that we wrapped around the candy "center."

He was so intent on getting just the right colors!

The finished flowers.

The finished vases and flowers.

In the end, I spent approximately $5.86 each for what I think are some really cute gifts.

For Shawn's gift, I found some fun cards on Pinterest and got gift cards. That way, the teachers could go get whatever they wanted...even dinosaurs if they so choose. lol

The teachers got both the vases and the gift cards. We hope that made them feel appreciated! :)

We also remembered a few other special people around campus. There are a few other classified staff members who go above and beyond for our duo. We wanted to make sure they feel appreciated, too!

Where Will We Find Him?

It's been a while, but Jack is always finding new and funny predicaments in which to find himself.

Today's example...

He said he was in his sleeping bag. (And no he doesn't have a "real" on to play with--this was how he improvised!) He's such a silly kid!

May - Numbers Style

Here is the rundown for May and the upcoming end of the school year...in our by the numbers style.

5 people who are anxiously awaiting the start of summer.
14 days of school missed for Jason this year (so far).
8 days of school missed for Shawn this year (so far).
1 urgent care visit for Jason today.
1 more possible missed day for Jay tomorrow. (Fingers crossed for no!)
7 sick kid visits to the pediatrician for Jay since January.
Sigh.
4 pairs of shoes for Jason this school year. (The kid drags his feet. Grr.)
2 pairs of shoes for Shawn this school year. (The kid does not drag his feet. Yea!)
3 shirt sizes Shawn has moved up this school year. So long to the itty bitty department!
1 pant size increase for Shawn, too.
0 clothes size increases for Jay, although he is getting close to moving up a pant size.
3 sizes grown all the way around for Jack. :)
3 pairs of shoes for Jack, too.
46 days until the last day of school.
33 days are actually school days.
7 weeks more...that's all. Yea!

Friday Five

Yeah! Grandma is back! I know some boys who are very excited. :)

~~~
Jack has now decided he is all about the apple, which, if you can believe this, may have surpassed the banana on his top ten food list.
What do you call a boy named Jack who loves apples?
Apple Jack, of course!
~~~

So this next week will bring Teacher Appreciation Day. I asked the boys what they wanted to get for their teacher. Jason said he thought she should get some flowers. I figured out a cute idea to help him give her some "flowers".

Shawn, on the other hand, thinks she should get a pencil. I'm not sure if that's because he could think of nothing else and thought of the idea because he was actually holding a pencil in his hand at the time, or if he truly thinks she should get a pencil. I'm not sure what cute thing I can come up with to go with the pencil idea. We shall see. lol

~~~
I do believe that Jack has had yet another growth spurt. All of his pants are high waters now and his shirts are showing more midriff than I'd like. Looks like we'll need to update his wardrobe sooner rather than later.
~~~

Jason has been obsessed with cars for a while now. Today we had to discuss what happens when a car runs over a spike strip. A simple "the tire gets flat" answer was not enough for him. Instead, I was told I could look up information he wanted on Google. Inquiring minds just had to know how far a car can go after it runs over a spike strip, what happens when only one or two tires are flat, and how driving on flat tires will ruin the side skirt of the car. After I made him clarify what a "side skirt" even was, he was quite put out when I didn't drop everything to find him the answers.

Oh what it must be like to grow up with any information you want at your fingertips!
