Conversations With 7 Year Olds

Him (in a monotone): "Mom, I am a robot. I can't sleep."

Me: "Ok, robot. Just close your eyes and listen to the music."

Him (in the same monotone): "O. K. Good. Night."

Oh Starry Night

Jack's bedtime ritual includes staring at the stars...

He likes to light his "starry bug" and count the stars. Tonight he said he was camping while it was on. :)

It's way to cute!

They're Cute

I had someone ask me the other day about the boys. All the usual questions came up, and I answered them with answers I repeated what seems like millions of times.

"Are your twins identical?" is always among the questions.

Um, no, they are not. In my opinion, they look very little alike, and the older they get, the more and more different they appear to me.

Then there is Jack.

Our Jack managed to look different from his brothers, too.

In some families, every kid seems to be a carbon copy of the other in looks, but not our trio. Sometimes I wonder if they'd even be recognized as brothers if they were out on the street alone, their looks are so different to me.

"So, who do they look like?" I am invariably asked.

"I don't think they look like anyone else," I tell the questioner. "They're cute and they look just like themselves."

Each of our guys is his own unique person, which if you ask me, is pretty neat.

Friday Five

Well here we are in a whole new year. Welcome 2015!

The boys have recently developed a strong interest in all things money. Because of that, this year the boys are going to actively start saving some of it. On Sundays, we are all going to be participating in a 52 week saving plans. The boys will be saving money in quarter intervals, while Isaac and I will save in dollar intervals. Their minds were blown at the prospect of having $350 (plus what they've saved so far) by the end of the year. The prospect of having that much money to spend blows their minds, too. ;)

I'm excited at them getting the chance to see the money increase as the year progresses. Hopefully, this little lesson will plant the seed that saving for what they want is actually something they can do whenever they want (and not just when mom makes them).

~~~
So, the next obvious question for my family saving idea is how the heck are the boys going to earn the money for their deposits. Well, 2015 has brought with it the term "chore." lol. Jason wasn't at all sure that he'd like this new concept when I first discussed it with them, but he's warmed up to the idea since then. We're going to start out light on the chores and continue to add things to their expectations  as the year progresses so they can earn the money indicated on their chart.
Jason's job is to make sure his bed is made every day and to keep their (his and Shawn's) bedroom clean. He may be taking this to the extreme, though, because it stressed him out to no end when Jack went in there and dumped a bunch of toys on the floor right after he had cleaned it.
Shawn's job is to deal with the trash (gets it ready for us to take out) and help with his room.
Jack's job is to put the toys he plays with away when he is done. His mastery of this chore going to be a work in progress. Ahem.
~~~

The hit gift for the boys this year has definitely been their bouncy house. :) Jack is pretty fond of Shawn's dinosaurs. Shawn is pretty fond of Jack's Yeti stuffed animal. (Looks like Santa may have gotten things backwards this year. Ahem.) And Jason is pretty fond of his rescue center playset and cars--when Jack isn't taking it apart that is.

~~~
How can two weeks of our vacation be already gone? I go back to work on Monday. (Boo) The boys have another week off before they go back to school. Somehow I don't think that is fair!
~~~

I spent the afternoon cleaning and came across this diaper. It is one the NICU gave me right after the big boys were born. This was their first diaper size...and it was too big.

To give even more perspective, the area for their little behinds is only three finger widths across...not even 3/4ths of the way across (the width of) the face of my cell phone.

 Never fails to blow my mind.
