Kidbits: Our Life in a Series of Face Book Updates... Part 23

July 5

The boys just lost their cars for the night. Their world has officially ended as there is apparently no other thing "to do in the entire UNIVERSE!" Oh the drama.

~~~
July 5
"So have I been good today?"
Yes, you've been mostly good today.
"So how many more days of goodness do I have to be so I can earn that new game for my phone (LeapPad)?"
Buddy, it will take quite a few days before you'll earn a game.
"But moooommm, I don't have that much goodness in me. I only have goodness in me for one day!"
--It seems my little talk about having to earn things rather than just "get" them went slightly astray
Parenting tip #352: It's NEVER a good sign when the littlest comes down the hall telling you, "uh oh, uh oh, uh oh."
Sigh.
July 3
Oneupmanship at its finest:
J: My tooth is about to fall out.
To which Shawn countered with:
S: But my swallow is about to fall out!
Shawn was sad to find out the Tooth Fairy doesn't leave gold coins for swallows.
July 2
Him: How do you spell "mile"?
Me: Go ahead and try to sound it out.
Him: Mmm - that's a m. Mom, remember the vowel says its own name when there is an e at the end. La la la there's an L, too. M - I - L - E.
Me after picking my jaw off the floor: That's right, Jay!
July 1
Jack just came over to shove a Goofy toy into my face. He would not stop until I kissed it. Once I complied, he was off to do something else. Okay then.
June 30
Due to an emergency, a boy was forced to pee in the backyard. His mind was BLOWN. I hope this wasn't something I will end up regretting for years to come.
~~~

June 29

One of my boys wants to be in a mariachi band. Any guesses as to which one?

***It was Jason. He really likes mariachi music!

June 28

Had to say goodbye to our sweet little cat, Annie, today. Sad day for Team Lopez.

~~~
June 26
We watched "A Bug's Life" today. It received mixed reviews. I have my own version of Siskel and Ebert over here.
~~~

June 25

Jason's two top teeth are loose.

Shawn's two bottom teeth are loose (but still have a ways before they're ready to come out).

The tooth fairy is going to have a busy summer! Yea!

~~~
June 25
Me: "So let's pretend you're the mom and your son deliberately broke a toy. Would you give him a consequence?"
Him: (Tears)"No. I wouldn't give him a consequence!"
Me: "You wouldn't? You'd just let him break all of the toys and not have a punishment?"
Him: (Heavy sigh)"No, I'd probably give him a consequence."
Me: "What consequence would you give him?"
Him:(More tears)"But I can't think of any!"
Me: "You're sure?"
Him: "I'd send him to the naughty chair. But I'd still let him have IPad time because he'd learn something."
~~~

June 23

Daddy; Jason, what do you want to be when you grow up?

Jason: I want to be a meteorologist!

Daddy: And Shawn, why do you want to be?

Shawn: Um, I want to be a princess. (He paused for a few seconds before adding) And a painter...cuz I'm good at it!

Yep. That's how we roll around these parts!

~~~
June 21
I think this has been the first moment of quiet all day. (In fact, this may just be one of the only moments today when I haven't had a kid physically on me, too.) One's reading on the IPad, one's in the bathroom playing his LeapPad (hey, a man's got to do what a man's got to do), and one is playing under his crib.
Ahhhhhh........my ears are almost in shock from the lack of noise!
~~~

June 21

So it seems Jack is going to be a talker just like his brothers. He is telling me stuff all day long. And when I have no clue what he's saying, he tells me again, only louder and punctuated with a face that tells me he clearly thinks I'm an idiot for not understanding it. Jeez.

~~~
June 20
By the looks of my house, I totally agree.
Photo: Yes. Yes it is.
June 17
Heard from the backyard;
"Eek! Help me mom! I'm surrounded!!"
He was surrounded all right--by four ants. Nature lover he is not.
~~~

June 17

Shawn's in the kitchen playing a tambourine. Of course that tambourine is really two plastic grocery bags he's smacking together, but that's beside the point. It does sort of sound like one. Lol

~~~
June 16
Jason has been repeatedly pushing the same two buttons on Jack's toys phone for the last 5 minutes. I am rapidly losing my mind.
~~~

June 16

Shawn: Mom, Jason hit me.

Me: Boys, knock it off and eat.

Jason: Hey, wait a minute. You're trying to make me hit you so I get into trouble!

Shawn: (wicked laugh)

June 15

I am in the middle of cleaning/organizing/trying to make the house sane in the midst of tornado Jack. Only thirty minutes in and I've decided we need to just sell everything including the house and start over. Who wants to give me some money so I can do that?

~~~
June 15
The littlest was having too much fun when he should have been napping. Went in to find that he opened a locked cabinet and was throwing the contents all over. Somehow he managed to do all this while still staying in his crib. Sigh. This boy is BUSY!
~~~

June 12

Somehow I need to get the littlest to understand that "no" shouldn't be his answer to every single question I ask him. Sigh.

I can already tell this one is going to be a handful!

~~~
June 10
Boo yeah! We got into our school of choice!
I again thank Isaac for his money maker shaking and his sweet talking the women at the district office. He is clearly my secret weapon!
June 10
True that.
June 9
Made homemade cinnamon rolls today. The five minutes of silence while the boys each ate one tells me they were pretty good! Too bad they can't just sit here and eat cinnamon rolls all day long.
~~~

June 8

Apparently our discussion about car hazard lights was beyond fascinating. He told me I just "broke his mind." Good to know I've still got it!

~~~
June 2
Daddy, where are we going? Is it a place with Christmas lights?
No. We're going to Target.
Oh yeah! Even better!
~~~

June 2

Isaac and the boys are in the kitchen making up a new language. That's totally normal right?

~~~
June 1
Just went in to check on Jack only to find him completely naked. You'd think a cold behind would be deterrent enough to stop him from doing that, but apparently it isn't. Sigh.
~~~

May 27

"You're playing too rough!"

"Nuh uh! You're playing too soft!"

It's been back and forth like that for 10 minutes. They will not be distracted from this very important discussion, either.

~~~
May 23
The littlest started counting to twenty and then gave me a look like I'm insane for being excited. The 'tude on this boy kills me!
~~~

May 22

If this boy makes it to six, it will be a miracle.

War of wills take 3.

~~~
May 16
Shawn and I are having a war of wills. He doesn't realize who he's messing with.
~~~

May 12

The littlest just ate a wooden piece off my futon. What kind of kid does something like that?!? Good grief, he's going to make my hair turn gray. And considering our history, that's saying something!

~~~
May 11
As if this week hasn't been fun enough, we just got a letter today saying the boys' pediatrician is leaving her practice at the end of this month. Anyone have a rec for a pediatrician they love?
~~~

May 11

Jack has decided his new residence is under the bed. He takes his toys with him and goes to hang out. As strange as it is to see him under there, I do appreciate how much cleaner my living room has been since this started. Ahem.

~~~
May 5
"Mom, Robert and Sadie drive cars better than I cook hot dogs!"
Who are Robert and Sadie? And you don't cook!
"The fish, mom. Didn't you know that? I know I don't cook. That's why they drive better!"
Yes, I know we have fish. I just thought their names were Paul and Ringo. Apparently I've been wrong all these years.
April 29
Isaac's lesson for the boys:
We have two simple rules in our house. Rule #1- listen to mommy and daddy. Rule #2- see rule #1.
We've been laughing about it for a while now. The boys, not so much. Lol.
~~~

April 28

Why is it not bed time yet? The little people have been in rare form today. Sigh.

~~~
April 24
I think momma bear won round one. Still waiting for official word to confirm, though.
~~~

April 23

I have to say that there is something so satisfying about writing a letter of complaint--especially when you're right.

~~~
April 23
So it seems the boys' new school district gets to meet my angry face next week. It should be fun. Momma ain't happy right now, that's for sure. And you know what they say...when momma's not happy, nobody's happy.
Sigh.
~~~

April 21

It's 9 pm and the littlest is in his room having a party or something. Seriously. He should not be having that much fun in the dark!

~~~
April 19
So Shawn is singing "I ain't saying she's a gold digger," at the top of his lungs, which is both hilarious and somewhat disturbing at the same time. Lol
~~~

April 12

We had so much fun on our trip to Santiago (San Diego) that the boys are already asking when we can go back. the hotel was great. SeaWorld had something for everyone. The boys were rock stars, too.

Nothing beats a fun trip with family. My heart is happy.

~~~
April 9
"Mom, you still have those cracks in your eyes (red veins) just like daddy. You need more sleep."
No kidding, kid.
~~~

April 8

I told the boys we are going to San Diego soon. They've been begging to go to "Santiago" ever since. Lol

April 7

More words I never expected to say: "Don't use those tongs to pick your nose!"

Boys.

Have Jason a buzz cut. He did awesome with the clipper noise!! Now he looks SO grown up. Sniff, sniff.

I just got played. Jack was in his room crying. When I went in to see what was going on, he threw out his arms and said, "Ta dah!" Sigh.

I don't know what up with the littlest, but he throws a major "it's the end of the world" fit when I put him down. Very unlike him. So...I've now held him/had him on my lap for nearly 3 hours. I am going to pay for this by this evening--scratch that. My arms are already aching!

He started off an ounce under 10 pounds two years ago today. Now he's 37 inches tall and weighs 29 pounds. He's no longer a little baby anymore. Now he's a full fledged big BOY! I can't believe how fast it went!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Jack!

~~~
March 29
That didn't go well...
It looks as if there will be no Easter Bunny picture this year. Shawn screamed when we got anywhere near him. Jason didn't want the EB to touch him. I'm pretty sure Jack yelled, "Oh HELL no!!!" when I sat him on the EB's lap. Lol. Oh well. Maybe I can Photoshop something.
~~~

March 26

Just spent a half an hour looking for the big boys' pajamas. Found them at the bottom of the laundry hamper with clothes covering them. I think they are trying to make me lose my mind.

~~~
March 22
Jack's having his own version of Pants-Off Dance-Off right now. He sounds so happy, too. I almost feel bad about having to go in there and ruin his fun. Not! That boy needs to go to sleep!
~~~

March 18

I knew it was coming...he's been taking his pants off for a while now. Tonight, he discovered the diaper can be removed, too. Let the fun times begin.

~~~
March 16
I'm pretty sure Jack is singing "oh ee oh ee oh ee oh" right now. If he breaks out with "Scream and Shout and Let It All Out" I'm going to freak out. Lol
~~~

March 9

It's official. Tooth número three is loose!

Checked on the boys before getting in bed. One was half on his bed and half on the floor, one had his head at the foot of his bed and his feet up on the wall, and one had taken his pants off and thrown them to the floor. I'll let you decide who did what. They're a wild bunch, these three. Lol.

~~~
March 6
Two nights of sleeping with the littlest one has left me feeling like a zombie. He got a nice, long nap this afternoon. Guess which one of us is cheerfully talking in his room right now. Guess which one of us can barely stay awake and has grades to finish. Le sigh.
~~~

Shawn's favorite thing of the day was looking at the cars at Target.

Jason's favorite thing of the day was the "awesome" trip to Target with daddy.

Summer Bucket List #33 - Strawberry Picking

This year, I thought we'd try to do something a little different for the 4th of July. We decided to go back to the farm for a little strawberry picking. The boys had so much fun!

The crew is tackling our area of the strawberry field.

Jason started right in on picking.
He was in heaven.

Jack had some fun playing in (and then climbing in) the plants.

Shawn picked a few berries himself.

Although, honestly, he ditched the berries for the dirt
after a little bit.

Uh oh, mom. The top of this one fell off.
I think I've got to eat it now.

Yummy berries!

Jason has quite the discerning eye for ripe berries.
This one passed the test.
Then it found its way into his mouth. ;)

I've figured Jack out. He runs toward other people.
When we are alone, he stays put. Think he's trying to escape from
us or something? Here he wasn't happy because daddy was making him come back.

These are a few sweet shots of the trio together in the wagon. :)

After we picked strawberries we went to the children's area. First we went down the big tractor slide.

Mommy wasn't prepared for how high up it was. Ahem.
Shawn was quite impressed!

I was so glad we stopped! Jeez.

Shawn had a lot of fun on it.
Me? Not so much.

Jason's turn!

Whoa! That was a close one!
Jack found his favorite animal. He kept telling me, "Duck! Quack, Quack! Duck! Quack, Quack!" It was hilarious.

He was grinning ear to ear here.

Hanging out in the wooden fire truck at the top of the hill.

Shawn was smart and stayed in the cool shade.

He asks me all the time how long he has to wait until he can drive.
I don't even want to think about that, kid.
The last thing we did was to go to the animal show.

This is their dog, Bingo. Jason, who is afraid
of dogs, even ventured over to pet Bingo!

One last highlight was that Shawn had his first visit to the porta-potty. Let's just say that was an adventure all in itself. As I wrote on Face Book:

"Shawn just had his first porta-potty experience. Holy cow that was NOT a pleasant experience for either of us. I am drenched in sweat, but he did it!"

A Face Book friend did point out that I should be glad to be drenched in sweat considering what the "drenching" alternatives were. That is very true! LOL

All in all, it was a very good day at the farm!

~~~
Jason's favorite thing from today was eating strawberries and brownies.
Shawn's favorite thing from today was playing the piano (we're trying to learn Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) and walking at school today.
Happy Independence Day!
Happy 4th of July, everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic day!
Once again, we watched the fireworks at the harbor from our front yard. This time we took advantage of the neighbors' yard so we could sit and enjoy the view.
Grandma and Jason watching the fireworks
Daddy and Shawn
Did you see that one, daddy?
Mommy and Jack
Jack seemed to enjoy fireworks this year. I'd say he watched for a good
ten to fifteen minutes before he lost interest.
Watching the show
It looks like the boys played musical chairs with my lap. lol
Still watching the show
Our view of the harbor fireworks show.
Shawn's favorite thing from today was seeing the animals at the farm. I'll post more about the farm tomorrow.
Jason's favorite thing from today was watching fireworks...right after, he changed his mind and said the whole day was his favorite. :)
Mostly Wordless Wednesday
Here are a few random shots from our visits to the park over the last week. :)
Shawn's sharing his flower with me.
Jack enjoying the swing.
Jason and mommy blowing on a dandelion.
Shawn's favorite thing from today was walking at school. (He is really working hard at therapy!)
Jason's favorite thing from today was building a garage for his cars.
Arteests
Today I lost my mind. Well actually, I was feeling like living on the edge, and what better way to do that than to try something relatively new?
I pulled out the finger paints. (I know! Crazy!)
The boys, of course, loved it.
This easel was a brilliant stroke of genius on my part.
They are close to each but they can't see (and therefore bug) each other!
Look at my rainbow, mom!
Our little Jason Van Gough.
Our little Shawn Picasso.
Shawn had a great time getting paint everywhere. I'm pretty sure he thinks paint is almost as good to make a mess with as mud. :)
Jack got to color a new picture with crayons
(As an aside, this is his "cheese" face. Score!)
Sometimes going a little crazy is a good thing!
~~~

Shawn said that his favorite thing from today was swimming. Then he changed his mind and said painting.

Jason's favorite thing from today was playing Snail Bob on the IPad.

Summer Bucket List #36 - Fly a Kite

This weekend we went to the park to take our first crack at flying a kite. It wasn't as windy as we wanted it to be, but Isaac and the boys did manage to get the kite up to a decent height.

For the first attempt, Jason and Jack helped. Jason held the kite while daddy ran like crazy. lol

Are you ready? Go, daddy!

Jack saw daddy running like crazy and thought that was an amazing idea. He spent the rest of his time helping by running after (and sometimes catching) the kite strings.

Up, up, and away! Sort of at least.

Let go, Jack!

Shawn and daddy had a little bit more success with their attempt.

Go, daddy, go!

We're ready to go flying again real soon.
