Long Day for Our Shawnie

Shawn woke up from his nap throwing up, breathing rapidly, and was extremely lethargic. All of these symptoms can mean very bad things for our little guy. We have to take them very seriously. Off to the ER we went.

We spent twelve hours in two different hospitals. In the end, we still have no clear idea as to what was going on, but we did leave with a follow up appointment with one of his specialists soon. All that matters is that he is feeling a bit better.

Poor Shawn...
A little hand holding his Woody...
Trying to sleep a little bit while we waited.

Jason's Day, 2012

Today was another special day for our family. ‎4 years ago, after 100 long days in the NICU, our Jason finally came home from the hospital.

Today is Jason's Homecoming Day!

He has been looking forward to this day since Shawn's day, so you can imagine how excited he was. He and daddy even made a sign to commemorate the day!

Happy Homecoming Day, Jason!

Jason got his turn to be celebrated, and I'm pretty sure he loved every minute of it.

Can I open my presents yet, mommy?
Jason got to choose whatever he wanted for dinner--waffles and hot dogs. Mmmm...

He got to blow out candles on his very own red velvet cake.

Blowing out his 4 candles.
Tasting the cake before the candles are lit.
Coincidentally, he got to 4 finger licks before we stopped him. :-)

Jason finally got the chance to open those presents...

Hey! What is this?
A car!

Carefully unwrapping his second gift...

A new game for his LeapPad!
Then it was time for cake!

Forget the fork, just shovel it in. It's faster!

He likes it so much, he's trying to steal daddy's, too!

Shawn's chowing down himself. :-)
Red cake? Surely you jest. Cake is supposed to be chocolate!

We had another fantastic celebration!

Jason's Day, 2012

Happy Homecoming Day, Jason. We love you very, very much!

And It's Not Even Finished...

(Click to enlarge for full effect)
Welcome to Jasontropolis--the ever changing,
never finished city.*
Perhaps we have a civil engineering on our hands?

*Don't even think of moving one of his vehicles once it has entered the city. Seriously. He knows EXACTLY where he left every single one. How he remembers, I have no idea, but he does. :-)

Mostly Wordless Wednesday - What the Puff?

What is this crazy thing you're giving me now?

It feels funny.

You sure I'm supposed to eat this thing?

Fine. I guess I'll try it and make you happy.

Um...it tastes a bit strange.

But I guess it is good. lol
Can I have another?

Backyard Fun

The weather this last weekend was so beautiful we were able to play outside in the backyard. The boys were so excited!

Shawn throwing some sticks in his tunnel.

Jason and his stick garden.

Jack isn't exactly sure about grass.

Shawn cheesing it up!

Jason is reluctantly letting me take his picture here.
(I had to resort to bribery.)

He's just so...BIG now. (sniff, sniff)

10 Months Old!

10 months old (43 weeks and 5 days old)

Jack - January 30, 2012

Weight:  Jack weighs 23 pounds and 5 ounces by our scale (74th %ile for weight)

Length:  32 1/8 inches long (greater than the 97th %ile for height)

Wearing: size 4 Huggies diapers and easing into 18 month clothes.

Feedings: Jack eats 5-7 ounces of formula a feeding 5 times a day for a total of approximately 28ish ounces a day. He's now eating stages 2 (sometimes up to 2 jars at a time!) and 3 solids. I am working on transitioning him to table food, but he seems to prefer the pureed food best right now. He does eat puffs and the other dry Gerber munchie foods.

Favorites: Jack is now on the move, which means his new favorites are anything his brothers have at the moment!

Least Favorites: Jack does not like to be told "No." Too bad, buddy. You better get used to it. I bet you've got a lot of that word in your future.

Issues: The poor guy is still in a state of teething...he's at 9 teeth and counting. The drool this boy produces would amaze you.

Personality: Jack is still fairly easy going and happy. He gets super excited when his brothers are doing something he wants to do. He loves people as soon as he warms up to them. Luckily, that usually only takes a few minutes.

Areas to work on: He is working on mastering his crawling (he army crawls now). He continues to get better and better at getting up on his knees, so it won't be long before he is crawling on all fours. Next up is learning how to pull himself up on his own. (He will do it if he's holding on to our fingers, ect, but he has yet to go up to something and pull himself up.)

New Things: Let's see. The biggie is that he has started to army crawl. (He follows his brothers all over the place and tries to take their toys from them. The big boys don't exactly know how to handle that situation yet. lol.) He drinks from a straw! He is now regularly pushing himself up into a sit. He has learned how to use his teeth as weapons. (Now I have to watch for teeth and his left hook!) He is now calling Isaac "Daddy" when he's with him. It's super cute.

Randomness: Jack's passion for the television continues. Sigh. This is another thing I said I'd never allow. (insert foot in mouth) He also loves to have his teeth brushed, especially his gums. You can just watch him melt when you hit his molar area. Poor guy. His hair is also starting to get long enough to curl and look a bit unruly. A haircut is in his near future. :-)

Some things Jack is expected to do: (milestones for ten months)

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
  • Waves goodbye - Emerging. He will wave to me with something in his hand when he feels like it, which isn't very often. He prefers to clap at me. Whatever floats his boat, I guess.
  • Picks things up with pincer grasp - Yes. He rocks with his pincer grasp!
  • Crawls well, with belly off the ground - No. Still doing army crawl. :-)
Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
  • Says "mama" or "dada" to the correct parent - Yes to both of us now.
  • Indicates wants with gestures - Yes. He definitely gets his desires across with gestures. He will shake his head "no" also.
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
  • Stands alone for a couple of seconds - Emerging. He is starting to balance himself when I get him just so. He can, however, stand for a while holding on to something like the side of his crib.
  • Puts objects into a container - No. In his defense, I've never tried until tonight.
